We had a great stay at the Coober Pedy Experience Motel. The location was excellent—just a short walk to downtown, which was perfect for us as we didn’t have a rented car. It made exploring the town easy and convenient. The Wi-Fi connection was impressively strong throughout our stay, which was a pleasant surprise, especially in a remote area like this. The design of the motel was also very impressive. Staying in a place that blends modern comfort with the unique underground style of Coober Pedy really added to the experience. It’s not just accommodation—it’s part of the adventure! The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. Their local knowledge and warm hospitality made a big difference.

After-Hours Check-In Communication: The instructions for after-hours check-in were not clearly communicated. This caused some confusion and delay upon arrival. I recommend reviewing and improving the clarity and timing of this communication for future guests. Main Door Repair Needed: The main door is not functioning properly — it does not open or close smoothly and may require maintenance. This could pose a security issue and should be addressed as soon as possible.

Being underground

We found the cost of $20 each for a continental breakfast rather expensive. The first morning the girl on duty made coffees for us . 2. Cappuccinos and 1 mocha. The next morning we were informed that these were extra, only instant coffee or tea were included. Also when we booked we were told that they would pick us up at the airport and drop us back there. Unfortunately the car had a flat battery, but according to the airport shuttle guy it had been out of action for quite a while.

Cozy setting. I was a bit nervous staying underground but the hotel made it very inviting. The location was amazing. Walking distance to the Old Time Museum and Big Winch 360.

Cot wasn't prepared as requested but they quickly brought it to us when asked. Was a bit nervous about whether the hotel would be able to accommodate us with our caravan parking but turned out there's a designated spot to park!

It was nice experience staying underground. It was reasonably price, clean and the staff were pleasant.

We wanted a coffee in the morning, keeping in mind they advertise they do serve breakfast here. We were told there was no coffee because they were too busy getting ready for another occasion which happened to be a year 6 kids party. We felt as a paying customer they should take the time to make us coffee anyway or at least let us know in advance, not while we were waiting for service.

So much history and the available facilities were fantastic! Loved that there were a vast selection of DVD’s to be able to watch as a family before bed to settle down to. Great coffee with excellent conversation was a bonus I was not expecting! Thanks for welcoming our tribe and giving us a wonderful Coober Pedy experience.

I have no commentary for this section as I received the service that I expected and a little more for the money and location given proximity to a large city.

Being pet friendly was the biggest plus. The staff were friendly. The room was nice and cool, despite not having air con. The bed, sheets and pillows were very comfy. The towels were nice and the bathroom was fitted out well. Added bonuses included the TV having netflix, the room had a sink, microwave and crockery.

The room could feel a bit stuffy after being there for a while. The place would look amazing with some fresh carpet.

It was a welcome retreat from the heat while I was there, had a little cook out on the grassy area where the kids were happy to run and play. Very close to the main street and walking distance. Overall I will always be staying here whenever in Coober Pedy next, and I highly recommend it to anyone travelling through to stay here! Thank you kindly to the staff for your hospitality.

We arrived late and the instructions on how to check in were accurate and relatively easy to follow. The room and facilities were clean and well set out. It was great to experience the underground charm! Our dog and cat enjoyed the room as well- especially the cat with some exciting exploring carried out!

Having an enclosed dog yard would be great but apart from that, everything else was really good.

The staff were great. We got picked up and dropped off at the airport. We had a bit of a tour around the town by Mel on our way back to the Inn. Mel is full of local knowledge. If you stay here you get discounts at certain tourist spots. The stay is very unique. The room obviously has no windows and it is totally black! You can even nap after lunch. The linen is great! And the bed was comfortable. The room looked just like the photo.

We absolutely loved our stay at the Comfort Inn. We stayed in the two-bed apartment which was spacious and gave the real underground experience. One of our most memorable stays during a month of travelling around Australia. Good location close to the town centre and the Greyhound coach station. A special mention to the amazing Melissa who not only stored our luggage for us on the day of checkout but got us out of a tricky spot by giving us a lift to the coach stop with our suitcases when one of them broke, saving us a tough walk carrying a 20kg case.
