The beds were really comfy - a wonderful soft topper made it feel so nice and lush. The room was very spacious and clean, and the bathroom was nice too. We loved the historical significance of the place and that they had done the remodeling into a hotel with such care and attention to detail. It was nice to have a breakfast every morning, with coffee, and we always got a seat.
I have to wonder if hotel breakfasts come as a kit for ease of preparation - I feel like I've had the exact same one in several other places across Canada. Cubed potatoes, steamed scrambled eggs, and skinless sausages - also toast, yogurt, and juice. It was nice to start the day with something, but not gourmet I would say. Overall, though, it really didn't negatively impact our enjoyment of the stay.

We originally booked a suite with two queen beds, but were told when we arrived that they had given that suite to another party because there were four of them and only two of us (and a dog). We prefer two beds, but weren’t given that option even though we booked two weeks in advance and had it confirmed.

The building has been sympathetically renovated & is a treat to stay. The "Indoor Ramp" at the back of the building is ideal. Breakfast hot or cold available until 10:00 & we noticed the staff even accommodated those running a bit late. We appreciated the availability of a later breakfast as we had driven so many miles to get to Thunder Bay. Our King sized bed was perfection & our view of Lake Superior & The Sleeping Giant was a delight. The walk-in shower was ideal.
Trying to find a restaurant that was not full for the Dinner Hour. Guests should be advised reservations are a must.

After a long 16-hour drive, I was really looking forward to a comfortable stay—especially since my last visit to this hotel came with a beautiful view. Unfortunately, this time the view was… a wall. 😅 That said, the hotel itself is charming if you appreciate old heritage buildings. It has a unique character that stands out from modern hotels. The room was clean and quiet, which helped me rest well after the long journey. Breakfast was decent—not amazing, but good enough to start the day. Overall, it’s a solid choice if you’re into historic architecture and don’t mind a surprise view.
Honestly, I didn’t find anything to dislike… mostly because I was too exhausted to notice anything! 😄

This is a beautiful historic building. They’ve managed to maintain some of the historical details and it looks quite magnificent from the front. Our room had 4 nice big windows and very high ceilings. It was a really spacious room and it was very clean. The AC worked really well. Our room was very cool when we arrived. The staff were warm and welcoming. It felt safe walking from the hotel to the restaurants downtown closer to the water. We were pleasantly surprised by how clean the streets were around the area. The view of Lake Superior is quite good from the hotel - even from our room on the lower floor.
Our room was at the end of the hall in the basement and while the room was lovely, I felt a little freaked out coming and going from our room because of the hallway and being tucked back in the corner. We would still stay again though, but I would request a room on the main or upper floor.

This hotel is amazing! We were so surprised that it was actually in a renovated old courthouse. The rooms are big as are the bathrooms. It was exceptionally clean and comfortable. The hallways are wide and well lit and even the court benches remain in the hallway. Doors and windows are tall and wide. We were extremely pleased with the overall experience and would highly recommend.
Honestly, the only negative thing I could come up with is that the entry stairway was a bit hard to maneuver with suitcases but certainly not anything I would complain about.

Gorgeous building and rooms! King bed was divine. Walking distance to some restaurants. Staff were very friendly. View from the front towards the water!
Run-down area close by. Breakfast was not great. Service mishaps? (Room missing sheets for pull-out couch, missing towels, and didn't receive requested items after being told they would bring up - could have been miscommunication as we had the 'Do not disturb sign on'.). Wish they had more highlights of the history of the building.

The breakfast was typical of any hotel offering it that I have stayed at. Some things better than others but left not feeling hungry to start the day.
Was a little disappointed that our room was on the lower floor so could not see out the windows unless I stood on the bed. Would have had a beautiful view of the lake if we would have been one floor up. I had read some bad reviews about being "in the basement" but I really didn't feel like that's where I was. The room was large, clean and the beds were comfortable so I got over the fact I could not "see out the windows". We spent two nights there exploring Thunder Bay so when we were back in the room we were ready to flop on the beds and watch TV so I didn't really care about looking out the windows. I love old buildings and it was lovely to see that they made this relic into a hotel. It was very pretty lit up in the evening.

The beds--the most comfy beds in town with nice linens. The new person at reception (?Nicole) is a breath of fresh air. Lorinda who I sometimes see at reception is friendly and very helpful, going above her duty.
Breakfast is very basic: can provide better quality products such as better bread. I miss the Acca Kappa products that they used to offer. The current products offered is over-fragranced that I find off-putting. In previous visits I am greeted (if there is even any greeting) by dour people without a smile. I am struggling to bring my suitcase up some steps and a hotel employee, instead of maybe helping, just showed his impatience and rushed by me as soon as I moved to the side to allow him to pass.

I loved that this is a historical building. It made the visit very unique, and I was happy that it wasn't just another generic, boring hotel. The staff that I interacted with were also very nice and curtious, even when their computer systems were slow. The breakfasts were also good for a continental breakfast. There was actual HOT FOOD, compared to other hotels where the breakfasts are cold. Overall, it was great.
It was more of a pet peeve than anything: because there was a wedding going on at the same time, I was very worried about getting parking at the hotel. I never knew if the guests of the wedding would be taking over the parking area or not. Also, my room was located in the basement of the hotel, right under the stairs at the entrance of the hotel. It was very loud, which made it hard to sleep.
