A very authentic place. If you are going here, then definitely take a tree house. There is nothing special in ordinary houses, for which it would be worth driving three hours on broken roads) Now about the tree house. The house is half open (no glass) and the temperature and climate in the house is the same as in the jungle (no air conditioning). During the day, we saw four different snakes on the open terrace (green, tree, seemingly not dangerous for humans, but unpleasant). In general, if you are afraid of snakes, this is definitely not for you). During breakfast, parrots fly in and once a coati came, we also saw tapir tracks in the jungle, no monkeys. I definitely recommend this place for a couple of days. If more, it will be boring, since there is not much entertainment.

One of those rare 10/10 hotels! We had an amazing time at this lodge and can only recommend it. Our bungalow was so beautiful, the restaurant has an amazing view and good food. So much food is homemade or homegrown. All the tours we did were great and super easy to organize. The amount of birds you can see from the restaurant is amazing. So much nature to see on their own paths, would definetely recommend a guided walk to make the most out of it. Very friendly staff. Great massage directly above the water. It all felt very luxurious and high end, but gave us lots of easy access to beautiful nature and wildlife.

Nothing.

What an amazing experience to stay at the maquenque lodge!! The start with having to cross the river by boat to get there is already part of the adventure, but everything is perfectly arranged by the staff. We stayed in the bungalow for 1 night and this is a wonderful lodge with AC. We upgrated the last night to a treehouse and that was the highlight of our travels. The outdoor shower is magical and the treehouse itself is a once in a lifetime experience. Waking up to the raind and wildlife sounds of the jungle is just wow. The offered tours are all great just like the restaurant. Reasonably priced with good food. Nice pool and you could even get canoos for free to paddle on the lake. Would definitely come back again!!

The only thing was that my boyfriend thought the breakfast portions could have been bigger. But the quality was good!

Incredible place for wildlife. We walked around the entire site at night with head torches, found 2 species of Boa, countless insects, 5 frog species...the list goes on. Can also access the local river, where we saw crocodiles on the river banks. Definitely not advised if you don't know what you're doing, as they're upward of 4 meters. Coatis are everywhere and very tame, good to watch at breakfast - which was super tasty. Canoes are free and a good way to get around the small lagoon, it seems quite lifeless, but it's actually full of caiman, which only emerge from burrows at night. Went on a horse riding experience and Chico was incredibly friendly. We specifically went to look for animals and found them. If you want to stay away from the wildlife, it is easy and safe to view from a distance. The pool area and other chill zones are essentially void of wildlife, so good for those that just want to relax. We got a tree house, it was a great novelty but the cabins by the lakes also looked really good.

While it is a great place for families to experience nature close up, we did find ourselves often at breakfast or dinner with noisy kids. It definitely did not ruin the experience, but it would be good to offer 2 sittings for dinner at least, so there is adults only after 19:30, for example or could have a bar. There was no where to refill water, so take a big bottle or be prepared for $2 a 500ml bottle. It was so good though, don't let this put you off.

We booked a tree house and it was a unique experience being approx 10+mtr above the ground in the canopy, btw on eye level with birds & bats. Restaurant & service was perfect. We enjoyed 2 tours on-site: day&night walk! Saw a lot of birds, monkey and 2 sleeping Tucans next to our treehouse and many others…plus a caiman next to the restaurant

(Maybe due to the humidity, we had 12h rainfall one day), the treehouse had a little smelly flavor…not, a big problem. Well, it is not recommended to open doors & windows…for a reason. ;-)

The tree House is spectacular. In the middle of the woods, nice counters on the way like a coral snake by night and a hawk in the morning feeding on a reptile. Bird watching tour in the morning was very good, it was a private tour as I was the only participant. The staff was very helpful, as we had to call the migration police because of our visa.

They are building more tree houses around, work in progress. Canoes are for free, but the options to with the canoe are very limited. In our booking a guided afternoon walk and planting of a tree were included, but they didn't know about that. Planting a tree is not actual any more, but they gave us the afternoon walk for free, after showing the booking.com confirmation.

It was a really nice surprise and experience for us, it’s amazingly beautiful area, with lots of things to do and amazing wildlife to see (animals, birds, plants…). The reception staff, and some of the restaurant staff (not all of them though ) were really nice and helpful. The breakfast was really nice however the restaurant could serve better quality dining.

The birdwatching tour was a real disappointment- very inexperienced guide, relaying all the time on an app, which we could ourselves too.

Remote location and adventure getting there across the water, efficient, personable and knowledgeable staff, reasonably priced and varied menu, great night tour with Antonio and Ignacio, relaxing boat tour with Luis M and Jonny, tranquil swimming pool, plenty of 'on-site' wildlife eg a band of coati, birds, Jesus Christ lizards and trails to walk. A really clean and well tended to place. Four nights was a perfect length of time to stay.

We stayed for four nights and didn't need our towels changed in that time.

We choose this place purely because we wanted a tree house experience in Costa Rica. We had a two night stay in two different tree houses and both were great (one with outside shower and the other bigger and more luxurious). On the second morning we could watch a family of monkeys really close by from the tree house. Check-in is really unique - communications telephone and a boat crossing over a river. Park is kept immaculate. There are canoes you can use and walking trails you can follow for free in the grounds. Wellies and walking sticks on site that you can borrow. Breakfast and food in the restaurants was good.

Once check-in was completed, paid tours were 'really' recommended, especially the boat tour. In the end due to the pushiness we booked nothing and just did the canoes, swimming and walk round the park - enough for one day. The swimming pool is really small and only had about 10 sun loungers. If your staying longer than one night then you probably need to take one of the tours (boat trip, bird watching etc.) as there is little else to do.

amazing stay in TRE house. a real unique experience. if you accept certain contacts with the nature (smaller or bigger dead or alive insects) its fantastic to stay IN the jungle. Outdoor showering is a must do experience. great garden and a real jungle trail within the area. wonderful nice and competent staff. special thanks to Anthony and Andres! here you can see many birds and animals (frogs, turtles, kaimans, and the cute gang of white nose coaties…) restaurant serving excellent wood oven pizzas!
