Hotel Review Our stay was absolutely fantastic! The pickup from the harbor worked perfectly, and we were greeted with a warm and friendly welcome. We stayed in an apartment in the Villa Moana, which I can highly recommend to everyone. The apartment was beautifully equipped, spotlessly clean, and in a great location. It also featured a wonderful terrace with a stunning sea view. A particular highlight was the private dock with stairs that made it easy to enter the sea. Snorkeling here was a great experience—even though it might not seem so at first glance, there’s plenty to discover upon closer inspection. During our stay, I spotted octopuses, lionfish, stingrays, turtles, and even a nurse shark (don’t worry—they’re more scared of you than you are of them, and they quickly swim away if you encounter them). We stayed on the upper floor, and in the evening, when the lights from the lower floor illuminate the water, you can watch the sharks hunting. It was an incredible and exciting sight. Basically everything. Please do note though that this Booking site both contains the Moana and the Sunset Hill premises as well. The Moana is near the ocean, in Sunset Hill (which we had rented) lies 100 m farther - no big deal. Do note also that the downstairs rooms can get quite humid easily, so the air conditioner is a welcome thing. But besides that, this is THE bang for buck thing if you do not want to spend all your money on overwater bungalows. The most important thing, and I think, an advantage, is that since you are at the heart of Vaitape, you REALLY experience Bora Bora - not what a big hotel chain presents you as Bora Bora. AUTHENTIC EXPERIENCE. Shops, foodtrucks, pharmacy is easily reachable. But the best thing is that your hosts take you THERE AND BACK to Matira beach - which, put it simply, is the greates beach on Planet Earth :) If you plan to save money by making your meals for yourself, and get in touch with real Bora Bora, think no more about your accomodation - you've just found it. You can use the private dock at Moana - it is deep, deep blue, but we saw our first wishes - wonderful ones! - here. So basically you get a private lagoone connection, too.

Bring earplugs :) But that's something which is easily managable.

Very much appreciated our arrival pickup at the ferry dock from Moea. Very kind host and gave us a lot of recommendations, tips and easy to chat with via WhatsApp if we had any questions. We stayed at the hill side lodge, relatively quiet next to church with shared deck for lagoon views, room decente size and clean with kitchenette and kitchenware provided. AC worked great. Great value and convenient location to super market and easy walk to town.

The bed was a little firm for me. The shower was fine just takes a little patience to adjust the hot water. Not a big deal.

Our apartment had air conditioning in the bedroom, which was very welcome and a comfortable mattress and plenty of plugs to charge phones and laptops. We were right on the lagoon frontage, so despite the property being located off the main busy road, the outlook was very nice and it was quiet to sleep at night. There was a jetty to jump off into the lagoon (very deep in front and clear - great swimming). The apartment was brightly painted with stencilled friezes, and there was a handy washing line, and a great outdoor shower for use after the lagoon swims! Our host picked us up, and dropped us off to the boat transfer for the airport. She also recommended and booked us on a snorkelling tour, which we thoroughly enjoyed. A supermarket was 5 minutes walk away, as were some great food trucks, and we were also handy to the St James restaurant and speciality shops. Another bonus was that we were directly opposite a cycle hire place, which offered very good value for money for standard bicycles. The main centre of Vaitape was a further five minute walk away so this is a very handy spot.

The apartment is near a boat fueling jetty. We could occasionally smell petrol fumes while a boat was fuelling, mostly early morning.

We stayed 4 nights in July 2024 at Villa Moana on the waterfront in Vaitape on Bora Bora. The location was fantastic, with stunning views overlooking the lagoon, 10 min walk into town Villa Moana was spacious in the living area and bedroom, the bathroom a little small. Air conditioning was great and essential, and wifi speed was fast and reliable. Our hostess, Moea, was helpful and provided a smooth pickup and delivery to the wharf to catch the connecting free ferry to/from the airport. Overall the experience was a good one, and we would recommend to others. Although we were a couple, the villa is especially suitable for families as there are two single beds in the living space, which we used as daybeds. The kitchen is well stocked with utensils with a fabulous brand new full sized fridge.

I liked everything about Sunset Hill Lodge! From the friendliness of the staff (Dolores and Gérard), to the excellent condition of everything in the unit (nothing broken, damaged, no duct tape or other temporary fixes), to the comfortable bed, linens, pillows, etc. It was all really well maintained and managed. Everything was clean and tidy. The appliances were relatively new (frost-free fridge/freezer, Bosch gas stove top) and worked great. Air conditioning worked great. Big windows with screens, which I preferred using overnight instead of the AC. Both Dolores and Gérard had helpful information about nearby stores, the public beach, etc. The view was lovely, and the location was walking distance from 2 grocery stores.

I had some spotty wifi issues, where my phone would go back and forth between the wifi and the cellular network.

The Property was clean, it was close by to a dock where we were picked up for tours. The host picked us up from the harbor and also took us back. Free of charge. That was awesome. She even asked if we wanted to stop for hotdog on the way. Lol. Within walking distance of two grocery stores. Great view. I loved the terrace.

Everything was great but if I had to pick something I would say we needed a trashcan in the bathroom so I wouldn’t have to walk to the kitchen to throw things away. Wi-Fi was slow for trying to upload a video but that could’ve been just the area in general. But these are just minor things that obviously we worked around. No big deal I would highly recommend.

First of all, Hinano, our hostess at Sunset Hill lodge, was simply stellar, absolutely amazing! She went above and beyond, gave us tips and ideas for what to do in Bora-Bora, booked activities for us, and even provided a free beach drop-off and pick-up on one day. Mauruuru! :) We stayed in an apartment just by the water. It's cute but basic, a 10min walk to supermarkets and the main square of Vaitape.

Just a small thing that could be improved is that the kitchen is equipped with only the very basics; not even salt, nor pepper or cooking oil. Even something as basic as that would facilitate use of the kitchen, for those who want to cook.

Location and safe environment the staff was very kind and helpful with a professional manner. I had an amazing experience... Super Market was a few minutes and the town just enough walking distance for exercise. Highly recommend and would be considered for family vacation in the near future.

Moea was the best host we have ever met for sure! She made sure we were welcomed into this incredible island and enjoyed our stay. The upstairs room had the holiday bright coloured style, which gave us a traditional “Italian Holiday Home” vibe. We used the lagoon, sat on the bbq area, Moea dropped us & picked up from Matira Beach.
