Beautiful, peaceful house with a homely feeling. It was so relaxing to come back from the busy streets of Yogyakarta! The location is great with lots to do just around the corner, and they can arrange many tours and activities for you at a reasonable cost. The hosts are super welcoming and helpful! The dorm room has lockers and a large shelf to put your things, as well as curtains on the lower bunks (just veils, but it makes a small difference already).

The breakfast for the dorm room isn't the same breakfast as the private rooms, so it didn't feel like the best value. I didn't love that the bed material was very plasticky, which could get rather sweaty. Also, this didn't bother me, but it was very quiet when I was there, so this might not be the place if you're looking to meet lots of people and get that "hostel" atmosphere.

What a lovely place! Incredible atmosphere, the breakfast was so delicious, and very affordable. I wish we stayed there longer! There's a carp pond where you can feed the fishes, so cute! The place is simple, but very clean and has everything you need. The shower is hot, and very pleasant. They have trips available, as well as laundry services and motorbike rental. If you're looking for a place that will make you feel at home, look no further. The owners are so lovely, and speak very good English. They are very helpful and welcoming. For me, the interior looked like something out of a fairytale - colourful windows, carved, wooden doors, plants, fishes, and a lot of decorative trinkets. The wifi was very fast - I was finally able to download and upload stuff. I already miss this place!

Staff and owner are amazing and helpful. They are very friendly and considerate. They will give you tips to enjoy your travel as well. Room is spacious and very comfortable unlike most hostels where they are crowded. The place is very safe and guarded. Location is great, you can walk to amazing restaurants and bars. Everything in my stay was great. Highly recommended

Very friendly hosts. They help me with suggestions how to continúe my travel in Indonesia and solved any doubt I had and which transport better use for eachblocation I was in the shared 6 bed room. Bed was comfy. Room for your stuff and lockers. I only could take the breakfast one day, but It was Ok. I miss to asked the Indonesia breakfast, but I saw It and looked like very good and tasty. Close to streets with lof of options for eat, indonesia and western meals. Very nice stay.

This is my second stay here, last time we stayed a month in a double room w/bathroom, which is exceptional value. The rooms are big and it’s all very clean. I would rather stay in this area than Marlioboro as there’s more to do (not just the ‘big tourist’ things) and less hassle from drivers and sellers, more local life and more arts scene. Rumah Kalpataru is unique and beautifully decorated in antiques, Irfan is the go-to man for advice on anything cultural in Jogja (and other tourist and food stuff too). The fish pond helps a little with the street noise. You’re allowed to watch Netflix and chill in the common area as well as use all the kitchen things, so try your hand at cooking. And this is a great spot to catch up with fellow travellers or ask Irfan advice. The neighbourhood itself is darling, don’t head straight for the tourist strip… instead go left out the front door and wander around the kampung. Keep your eye out for friendly folks, little food stalls and interesting street art. There are heaps of galleries and antique stores around, enjoy!

In response to some comments made by others: there are a couple of staff who don’t speak much English (especially at night) but they’re all lovely and will try to help with any problems, so don’t be afraid to use google translate. There is cold water kept in refillable water bottles the fridge for guests. The double rooms are all fantastic value, but the quietest one is probably when you go up the stairs on your left side or perhaps the bottom one also on the same side.

The house is very cute and the family that runs it is super friendly and open. The location is also good - not far from Malioboro and other sites in Yogja - and there are plenty of small restaurants nearby. Good wifi and drinking water available.

Our room was right next to the common area with windows facing that space - the first night the lights were on which made it hard to fall asleep. Not a big problem, just turned them off for the second night but might not be a bad idea to provide shades for the room windows.

It felt like home. It was nice to be able to cook simple meals in the kitchen. I could use the oils, condiments and spices. Kitchen was clean, organized. Complimentary breakfast was delicious. There was bread/toast, chocolate spread, delicious jam and margarine/butter, some mixed nuts and fruits-watermelon/bananas, coffee/tea. I was also offered some delicious local snacks at teatime. AC in the dorm was nice and cold. Bathroom had good water pressure, hot water and clean.

Mattress had some kind of plastic feeling colorful cover to protect it- felt warm and did not have feeling of a cozy bed. Bedsheet would come off the mattress. Would be nice if room was swept and trash can emptied daily.

Super welcoming staff (a husband and wife), comfortable and spacious rooms, beautifully designed place, yummy daily breakfasts (they alternate international and local each day). The pick up after the bike tour was much appreciated. Also excellent location on a quiet street but walking distance to Prawirotaman.

Would appreciate a fan in the deluxe room because the nights were cool-ish (September), and I didn’t want to use the aircon. Very minor preference issue though.

Very friendly owners in a comfortable guesthouse. The room is spacious. The bed is okay. The location is quite good with easy access to food establishment around. If you are keen to walk the old city just 15 minutes of walk away. The main point is the good breakfast every day - we had gudeg, nasi kuning, nasi goreng non of them were repeated when we stayed there. Free flow coffee and tea too.

The bathroom is mouldy and simple. The water pressure sometimes can be low. Hot water is lacking, though only supply the first minute of your shower (we are cold shower people, so it didn't affect us so much). The room wall is quite thin and bad in soundproofing. Everything that happened outside can be heard. Do bring an earplug if you are a light sleeper.

The area is lively even at night, having a lot of restaurants and bars to choose from in nearby streets. The people in charge of the accomodation were so welcoming and helpful! We were very moved by the fact that they had prepared breakfast for us even outside breakfast hours, without us asking for it. It was a very sweet surprise. The space was exactly as expected from the pictures and the room had a good temperature with the a/c keeping the balance without making the space feel freezing cold, which we weren't always able to find in Indonesia. We would definitely visit again.

The only "issue" was that in the common areas everyone needed to wear slipers that everyone shares, which personally I wasn't very comfortable with due to sanitary reasons. They were flexible, though, if you wanted to wear your own footwear.
