L’Antica Conceria is in a great location, overlooking the gorge but only about a 5 minute walk to the centre of Matera. The rooms have been lovingly restored and we had a very comfortable bed, lovely bathroom and it was very clean. A lovely breakfast was also served each morning. Martino the host went above and beyond and was very flexible with our check in time and arranging for a taxi to meet us at the bus station. He also drove us to the bus on checking out. He provided very detailed information on the places to see and restaurant recommendations which were great. We would highly recommend staying at this wonderful establishment.

L’Antica is a beautifully renovated guest house right on top of the cliff overlooking the gorge, a 10 minute walk south of the Sassi. We were met by Martino who is absolutely passionate about Matera and its history and gave us excellent advice on what to see, and in which order to walk around this very interesting place. Martino didn’t speak English but used a translation App on his iPhone to advise us, and this was completely adequate. Thank you very much Martino. 😁 Parking was easy, a secure covered parking area is located about 30 metres away. An adequate Continental breakfast was provided.

Visiting Matera involves walking up and down many stairways and polished stone paths. It is hazardous and slippery. L’Antica is no exception. There are lots of stairs and getting luggage there is challenging.

This place is truly amazing. Our room was spacious, clean, and included a lovely bath/jacuzzi. The views were breathtaking, with a private outdoor garden that added a special touch. It’s about a 10-minute walk from the city center, and the views overlook the valley rather than the city — which we actually preferred, as it was much more peaceful. The host was incredibly kind and always available, even helping us plan daily visits.

Honestly, everything was great. If we had to suggest anything, it would be to offer a few complimentary drinks, like water. Also, while breakfast was really good, a bit more variety would be nice.

L'Antica Conceria is situated a 5 minute walk from the centre of the old city of Matera, and yet it is in a quiet location with panoramic views over the gorge. It is a historical building, that has been sympathetically and artistically restored. The rooms have access to lawns or patios overlooking the gorge. Our room was excellent, with part rock and part stone walls and stone vaulted ceilings. It had an immaculate en-suite bathroom, king-sized bed, TV, wardrobe, fridge and a minibar completed the picture. The room was even better than the photos suggested. It was spacious, architecturally interesting, and immaculately clean. There is secure covered 24 hour parking 50m away from the property. Getting from the parking to the rooms does require negotiating a short slope up and some stairs (down). The breakfast was fresh, varied and delicious. Much has been said about the host Martino in other reviews. He is the other reason to stay there. His love and enthusiasm for Matera are manifest. He will advise you on where to go and what to see in fine detail, and individually tailored for how much time you have to explore the city. Honestly, if you are visiting Matera, I would 100% recommend that you stay at L'Antica Conceria. You will not be disappointed.

This is a comfortable small hotel. The property is well maintained and even has some historic features and a lovely view for afternoon for quiet relaxation. The bonus is Martino, the property manager is the best! He went out of his way so many times to make our experience both convenient, and more interesting. He even picked us up at a bus station after dinner time and drove us across Matera to our accommodations, and staying to mark a map showing us where we could still get some dinner in an old part of Sassi and even made reservations for us. After a lovely breakfast, he walked us through specific destination recommendations and restaurants marking a map for us to follow, which were all terrific suggestions. Matera is an amazing experience, and Martino made it extra special for us. Thank you Martino!

The steps down from the road to the accommodations are not for sissies, but once you get there, it's worth it! The location is just a short distance out of the main historic area, but we found it safe to walk to town, and a good surprise to find a "tourist" walkway close by.

The rooms were very cozy and comfortable. They were well decorated and had terraces to sit and relax on. The views were amazing Martino met us to help with parking. He was an excellent host who spent time giving us all the history of his building and of Matera . He even gave us ideas for towns to see after we left Matera. The breakfast was delicious with many local specialties. Martino was there each morning making sure we had everything we needed Thank you Martino for an unforgettable stay!!

Beautiful place to stay both if you want to explore Matera or just passing by. Situated at the entrance of the city with paid parking across the road, so no need to enter any closed or narrow streets. Host was super friendly and helpful, explained everything about the room as well as gave lots of recommendations on the city tour with major places to see and where to eat. Breakfast was superb with local specialties like bread which was so delicious that we went to the same store to buy the same. Room itself was well decorated and clean, beds were comfortable. Area outside the room with spectacular view to the canyon so make sure you occupy a table outside for evening drink)

Perfect place to stay in Matera! the rooms are beautifully renovated, great location next to the sassi and gorgeous view. Would also recommend to do the breakfast there, he prepared a delicious buffet for us and the breakfast room has the stunning view. Martino was a great host and guide, he was always available in case of questions, and he took his time to recommend us a tour of the city considering the length of our stay, as well as restaurants and bars.

Beautiful property with breathtaking views. Happy to see someone spend so much time and energy to take an abandoned property and return it to better than its original glory while keeping its historic local charm to the area while updating to current safety standards. Everything part of the transaction from start to finish was professionally and meticulously handled by Martino the host. Martino is a true treasure to the area with his vast knowledge of Matera and Puglia region. Great location that can park car safely across the street in secured parking garage and walk to all the historical sights, or many of the excellent restaurants the area has to offer, and again Marino can provide recommendations based on your taste. Accommodations were comfortable with a delicious selection of local Breakfast items. Thank you Martino for such a wonderful stay and experience. Hands down best B&B host I have had the pleasure to know.

Beautiful and convenient location, nicely renovated and large rooms with a great bathroom with walk in shower. Stunning patio to sit and enjoy a drink while soaking up the view. Best thing was our host Martino, helpful and friendly and made the stay feel like a second home. We loved it, Grazie Martino!

Nothing, it was perfect. WiFi was in and out, but that’s okay as we didn’t go there to spend it inside on the internet. 10/10
