The best part of this B&B is Marta, the host, and her staff. They made an 18 day stay welcoming and relaxed. Marta went above and beyond to assist with transportation from the bus drop off/pick up (15 km away) and even had a friend drive us there since there is only one taxi is Sulmona and not readily available. The breakfasts were amazing and a daily highlight. Plenty to eat and a wide selection of foods and drinks. The rooftop terrace was a great place for breakfast and a wonderful spot for an evening glass of wine while looking at the city lights and the stars above. Our room was large, clean, and wonderfully appointed. The B&B was centrally located and a great base of operations. We rented a car for 13 of our days there and were easily (given Italian driving and roads) able to get to the surrounding mountains for hiking, Lake Scanno for swimming and beating the heat, and Punta Aderci for two trips to the beach on the Adriatic coast. Marta assisted in locating the car rental agency and gave suggestions for places to visit and restaurants to eat at. The price was amazing for the quality of the facility, the location, and the wonderful staff. When we departed, we felt we had made several good friends there. If you are traveling to this area, I would give this B&B the highest rating possible and highly recommend you book there.

This has nothing to do with the B&B, but there is nowhere in town to exchange currency. We came with a few hundred, used our credit card at every opportunity, but had to rely on an ATM (with all associated fees) in a bank to get some cash.

What can I say?! This B & B set the bar very high!! We stayed in the room on the main floor, and I truly felt like a princess waking up in a castle every morning! Original stone walls and the comfiest bed I’ve ever slept in topped with luxurious comforters and blankets. Oh my! Walking into the building h there’s a lovely courtyard on the main floor, stairs to a cute breakfast room and more stairs to the top of the villa where there’s a beautiful rooftop patio, lush with plants and the most stunning views of the surrounding mountains and countryside. Breakfast was delicious, the best we had in our 2 weeks in Italy. Marta the owner was very helpful. She directed us to the best restaurants in the area, everything was in walking distance. I definitely could have stayed there longer, there is so much to explore in Abruzzo and with that level of comfort and service you never want to leave !

Don’t park in front of the building upon arrival, we foolishly did not understand we would be blocking traffic when we arrived early…the roads are so narrow and it was our first time in small town Italy. And we did get a ticket which took over 2 hours to pay and a lot of walking back and forth from the police station to the post office and back, only because no one at the police station is in any rush, not that I blame them!! They were super kind, but we tried to pay the next day before it was in the system, lol! Trust me don’t get a parking ticket🤣 parking is free just outside the city walls, you don’t need your car inside the town.

Marta's B&B saw very special. Our room was lovely stone room from the 1300. It was very charming. The B&B has a nice terrace on the rooftop where you could sit out and see the countryside. It was too cold when we went to eat breakfast there, but that would be lovely in the good weather. Breakfast was very good and plentiful. Close to the center -easy walking. Marta was a great host, showing us around the B&B, recommending restaurants and making reservations for us. I was researching where my grandparents grew up and Marta took the time to help me out. Very much appreciated her help. All in all, a great B&B and would definitely recommend staying here,

This was a great find. Our room was comfortable, unique and the location couldn't be better. She registered our car right away and had great advice on what to see, where to park. The rooftop garden is so relaxing.... and the views are spectacular. A bit of a climb to roof...but well worth it. Breakfast was more food than I could eat and you had many choices which was nice. Marta couldn't have been a better hostess and I would stay here again. Aside from stay, Sulmona itself is such a pretty city with such history. Worth a visit!

It was a lovely stay at a strategic location. It is in the ZTL zone but you can drive to the front of the property and park for a short while (it is possible, although quite narrow) to drop off your luggage. Marta will let you know where to park (for free) and it is quite convenient. The breakfast is lovely too. The room is very well equipped and you can definitely see all the personal touches which is again, lovely! The view at the rooftop is just amazing! I would definitely stay here again if I come back to Sulmona.

Breakfast was great and served in a quaint historic room by the owner. Marta the owner was very hospitable and made you feel like you were part of her family. Great location a few minutes from the center of Sulmona. This property also included parking a very short walk away. Love this property if you are looking for a beautifully maintained historic home in Sulmona with an added bonus of the roof top terrace to view Sulmona rooftops.

Could not find anything we did not like as my wife and I loved our stay and wish we stayed longer.

Everything about this B&B was authentic and exceptional. Marta was the best host with passion for her work and her guests. I felt welcomed, at home and comfortable. The breakfast was delicious with local ingredients and many options. The roof top was divine and the rooms were special and unique. I will be going back for sure. This is a charming property in the heart of Sulmona, a very walkable and accessible town in Abruzzo. Our hostess and her staff are wonderful people who bend over backwards to ensure your comfort. This is also their family home, so they make you feel welcome as special houseguests. Breakfasts and other time spent on their rooftop patio was perfect…relaxing and with great views of the city and surrounding areas.

We asked for a room on the ground floor, which was perfect for us. The room was a bit compact, which took some strategizing to arrange our luggage and so forth. On the other hand, we then also has access to the lovely ground level courtyard, which also was nice.

Everything was terrific. What a charming B&B! We stayed 4 nights at Il Marchese del Grillo and we enjoyed every minute. Marta, Marianna & Mary (the other Mariana) were just lovely. They were so attentive, friendly and helpful. The rooms are really lovely and comfortable, but to us the highlight was the rooftop dining area that affords views of Sulmona and the surrounding mountains. Just gorgeous!! We enjoyed a traditional Italian breakfast there every morning and relaxed there in the evening with some wine and cheese. It has to be experienced to really appreciate it. If we ever return to Sulmona, we will definitely stay there again. We miss it, and the ladies already!

The property is located in the Sulmona town center and there is a public parking area a short distance away from the B&B. The B&B is part of a historic building and our room, lovely and well kept, retained these features of a bygone era. Likewise for the indoor breakfast area. There is also a roof terrace, accessible only to guests at any time of the day, where one can enjoy quite a view of Sulmona with surrounding mountains in the background. Both the host, Marta, and her staff were professional but quite friendly and available to accommodate the guests' needs.
