Mark and Abby are absolutely phenomenal hosts! They've brought on some excellent staff as well who were attentive and great company during our evenings at the lodge. The cooking is fantastic and we felt very well taken care of. The lodge is also steps away from the hill — at most a 5 minute leisurely walk! Rentals are available through the lodge as well as life passes to both Madarao and neighbouring Tangram. Couldn't have asked for a better stay!

The quality of the pillows in our room was our only real criticism — but we also didn't ask if they had nicer ones, so that's on us too. Other than that, the service and comfort of the lodge exceeded our expectations. A perfect base for a day of skiing at Madarao!

We were provided with everything we needed to have a comfortable stay. Really appreciated the transfer from Madarao Kogen Hotel to the lodge since it was snowing and it was so difficult to drag our luggage in the snow and we also had a baby in tow. The food was also very good. Everyone involved in the lodge are so hardworking.

We booked the lodge because it had a restaurant and we really didn't want to go out for dinner in peak winter weather since we had a baby with us. Didn't know the restaurant was very popular and also caters to those not staying in the lodge, which was fine, but was alarmed when we went for dinner the first day, hungry and tired from our travel, and was almost turned away for not having a reservation. It all worked out in the end and we were able to get seats but was scared there for a bit. Food was so delicious though!

The breakfast was nice. We loved how close it was to skiing. The staff is kind.

There was a mix up with our dinner reservation, and we ate dinner in the basement where there weren’t enough chairs for our group. It was awkward but okay. We also reserved 2-3 person rooms for our family of 6 that were separated by 2 flights of stairs. Our kids are old enough to be separate, but I had to go up and down 2 flights of stairs to check on them, bring them things, etc. There are a lot of people that come through the restaurant in the evening, and the entry spaces/stairs can get really crowded.

We booked the apartment which is located in the hotel. As others have stated, there is no wifi in the room, you have to go the lobby area. We paid for a mobile wifi router for our stay in Japan so it wasn't an issue. Room is small as stated, however we are three 6ft males and we managed fine. Just meant we needed to be tidy. Beds were big enough and comfy. The location is excellent, a short walk to the first lift. The hotel facilities are great, which you can use as part of the apartment stay. The lodge owner is friendly and their restaurant is great.

10/10 service, the staff were amazing! Abbey & Mark the owners are such beautiful people. We had a group of 6 friends & they made us feel so welcome from the day we got there. The food is very good, the breakfast included is big and so yummy! The location was amazing as well, you can walk down the road and you’re on the slopes. A short walk in the other direction takes you to more food. Our whole group would definitely visit again & we highly recommend staying. It was honestly the best stay, we miss it already!

Madarao Lodge is a great family run lodge in a very special resort. We enjoyed the breakfasts, dinner, drinks and accommodation. Definitely the best place to have dinner in Madarao too. Mark and Abby (Mayuka) go out of their way to make sure you have everything you need to enjoy your stay and enjoy the skiing. Highly recommend you staying at Mountain Madarao Lodge, 6 nights was too short.

Amazing owners, super nice and friendly and very helpful on everything ! Lodge steps away from the slope and right next to a rental shop. Food is very good and handmade.

Mayuko and Mark really made us feel welcome 🤗 We stayed in separate apartment so is not in main lodge and a short walk away ( although closer to ski runs ). Truly ski in ski out . Mayuko made the most exceptional food . We were there every night for dinner and loved the chilled vibe as well as the food and drinks . Best small lodge in Madarao .

Breakfast each morning was amazing. Perfect way to start the day on the slopes. A very short and easy walk to the slopes. Mark and Abe are wonderful hosts and Abe is a wonder to watch in the kitchen! The convenience and delicious food made it difficult for us to want to venture out! The staff are all very friendly and kept the shared bathrooms spotless - thank you. Shout out to Colin for his musical performance on one night of our stay. Looking forward to our next visit!

Note: Stayed in the Separated Apartment The location is SUPERB. Literally ski-in/ski-out. Apartment also comes with access to the hotel's onsen, which is quite spacious and includes a sauna and outdoor pool. Apartment can comfortably sleep four people and includes a well-stocked kitchenette.

THERE IS NO WIFI IN THE APARTMENT. Be prepared to burn through your cell data or go sit down in the lobby. Makes spending long periods in the apartment after a long day of skiing difficult.
