The town where the hotel is situated felt a bit sad, like a ghost village, but it had a mysterious vibe that we reallyliked. It was different from the busy places we're used to. One of the highlights of our stay was undoubtedly the hotel's bathing facilities. The public onsen was great, and we were pleased to find it well-maintained and clean.
Our traditional Japanese room was big, which was nice, but the decor looked old-fashioned and it could use some updates. We didn't know about the free shuttle bus service beforehand as there was no info about it on the booking.com website. So if you come by train, ask the hotel staff about it when you book your room.

I like everything at that Hotel. Very helpful front desk, all staff tried to speak English and help you as much as they could. Very delicious meal at the restaurant. My son was getting out of his job very late so the restaurant offered Bento Box even at a late time. The thermal spa facilities are very good and the value of them. Also, there are massage chairs available free of charge. Free parking. If you have a lot of luggage, there’s a delivery service that you can ask for help at their souvenir shop and send your luggage directly to the airport or other location where you go. It will deliver just the next day and the price is very cheap. it helps me a lot.
The hotel rooms are very clean, for every day and for every person you can find set of fresh national clothes Yukata and socks and body cleaning towels with toothbrush (we stayed five nights, so we had 10 sets for two of us,). In the bathroom, you can find face care set with perfect Japanese quality that makes your skin clean and shine.

So beautiful with a traditional yet modern feel to it. The staff were amazing and completed a few requests for my partners birthday which were waiting in the room on arrival. The private onsen room we had was so gorgeous and we plan to visit again in the future should we be back in Japan.
For someone with dietary requirements it was a little hard to navigate the buffet dinner. However this has been a hassle for the whole of the visit to Japan not to this one place. It’s also very isolated from shops/restaurants so if you’re staying here it would be wise to have a car so you can travel should you need anything that the hotel doesn’t provide. The aircon also didn’t work as there was no remote for it so was a little hot at points.

Hotels offers a shuttle from the train station. Located by a nice river/waterfall. Unfortunately we haven't had time to explore the nature around. Hotel rooms are spacious and comfortable. The onsen are is pretty nice.

The dinner was an extra cost, but it was a varied and delicious buffet, with plenty of both Japanese and western cuisine choices. We enjoyed the clean, spacious onsen public baths and the private shower in our room. The Japanese futon sleeping experience was comfortable and it was prepared for us . The room was very spacious and had a sitting room as well. Our big surprise was waking up to a snowy wonderland outside. The train ride provided us with exceptional views of snow covered mountains and the cat themed driver, carriage and station were quaint. It was quite a long train ride, but most enjoyable. The hotel provided a shuttle pick up to and from the one man station.
All was to our liking.

Buffet dinner and breakfast was very good. Staff were very kind and helpful. Hotel was an older style hotel, but very clean. The surrounding nature was beautiful.
I paid extra to use the private hotspring. However, the water was unfortunately extremely hot. You could add cold water, but the flow of cold water was very slow, and the bath was pretty big, so my efforts to cool the water down even a little so that I could hop in the bath, were fruitless. I have been in many onsen before, so was disappointed I couldn't enjoy this one. Shouganai!

I stayed in a room with the view on the valley (Kawane Annex) and the panorama was really breathtaking. The room was spacious and comfortable, I'm so surprised that they accept solo travelers without changing for double occupancy (that's pretty normal in Japan). The location doesn't seem easily accessible if you don't have a car, but the ryokan has a shuttle bus that matches the train times (reservation needed). I really enjoyed the public bath, the open air bath and the hinoki bath (yes, I've tried them all) I had buffet breakfast and dinner included: a lot of pretty good dishes were available.
I would say that there are some characteristics that show the long history of the ryokan, like the heating system in the room or the lack of sockets in useful places, but overall it is not a huge problem.

This hotel was the best stay of our 3 weeks in Japan. The service was super nice and made sure we felt taken care of at any time. The breakfast was okay, nothing out of the world and we didn't try the dinner so no idea how that is. But the onsen facilities are great, even though we mostly chilled in our private onsen on our balcony. Other than onsen you can grab free drinks at the coffee bar, play table tennis or just walk the labyrinth-like hotel floors. The rooms are huge, with a huge bed and huge modern TVs. For one night we downgraded from our valley view room to a traditional Japanese room but I gotta say, that was not worth it. Would rather pay 100$ on top to have my big room with private onsen again. Thankfully, staff arranged that for us. We enjoyed the stay so much that we will come back for our honeymoon next year. Can't wait!

The main reason we chose this hotel was for the stunning view of the river and snow-covered mountains, and it did not disappoint! We stayed in a Japanese-style room with a private outdoor onsen, and it was everything I had hoped for. The view was absolutely breathtaking—I couldn’t get enough of it. As for the room, it was decent, with two sinks, one bathroom, and a separate toilet. We visited the hotel a week after the New Year, so the hotel wasn’t crowded at all. So we had the public onsens to ourselves. Overall, I’d still love to come back again during the winter—it was such a special experience!
There was a slight smell in the toilet in our room, but it was manageable.

This was an unforgettable experience. After staying at this hotel we decided we will reserve again here during our next trip, for more than two nights. Wonderful location in the middle of the nature, the room is very spacious and very clean, the open-air bath is great for relaxation and charging the batteries. They provide wonderful skin products ( cleaning, peeling, moisturizing). I loved soaking at any time of the day or night watching how it was snowing and listening to that little river nearby. The food, breakfast and supper, were diversified and delicious. The staff is very professional and helpful. My only suggestion for the staff is to add an English version of the little card in the bathroom advising the tap water is not drinkable because it's thermal water. The card is only in Japanese and I used my Google image to translate with my phone, but other guests may simply ignore it. Beside that, everything was excellent. I miss Ashinomaki and Marumine Kanko already. Thank you for your amazing hospitality.
We loved everything!!
