The staff was really friendly and nice. We didn’t know where to go for dinner as there was a storm when we reached but a staff helped us out and we really appreciated that! There was ample parking space for anyone who’s driving, and you can just walk over to the famous Karato fish market. It was cloudy when we stayed but on a nice day, the view from the room would’ve been great.

The hotel is in a perfect location -- right next to the Karato Fish market, the Karato ferry pier, an aquarium, an amusement park for kids, and at a bus stop from which you can access farther parts of the city. We had a view of the Setouchi, the pier, the aquarium and karato market and could hear the seals and dolphins at the aquarium and the waves lapping along the pier. There were plenty of restaurants and a Family Mart close by. There is also a fantastic bakery next door and you can have high tea at the former British Consulate across the street. The breakfast at the Grand was very good although it's the same offering every day. The Akama and Hachimen Shrines are close by and the Dan-no-ura battle cannons are within walking distance. We had western beds and two western sitting chairs with a small table next to the sliding glass doors which led to a balcony from which could watch the activity on the pier below and the ships going by. At night, the harbor and lighthouse are lit up. The soaking tub came with yuzu bath salts (called bath powder). We had a very restful stay here. The personnel were friendly and helpful. We felt well-taken care of.

There was no hotel shop but there were vending machines.

Location are great. Breakfast are delicious. Staffs are very friendly. Very clean . My husband and I are delighted and decided to go back again maybe next year.

Only some of the signs that’s not translated in English. Specially in the balcony not too sure what it means. ( not to go out or don’t open the balcony door) but so far everything is great.

An amazing hotel that is perfectly located in the Karato area of Shimonoseki. It is near great places to eat and tourist sights, with easy access to both bus stops and the ferry. The staff was great and very helpful! Next time I am in Shimonoseki, I plan to stay here again.

The old hotel, but with Sharm. We had room with a view and it was amazing. Staff 1000% so professional and old school, I just didn't find anywhere else that amazing staff as in Shimonoseki and we visit many places. We were in love with this city.

Only stayed 1 night. We used the ferry from Mojiko to access the town which terminates right in front of the hotel. We had no expectations of the area as this was a random stop to see the fish market and walk the tunnel between the 2 islands so was pleasantly surprised how lovely it was. The hotel was a well kept building with old fashion charm

The most convenient location. It’s right next to the ferry port and fish market. Also easy walking distance to a few tourist attractions. The rooms were nice and clean. Great view of the port from my room.😁Worth every penny. Highly recommend. Will definitely come back.

Nothing to dislike.

Even though the hotel price was friendly, I could tell the hotel staff was high class. It made sense to learn that the hotel has a history and the emperor stayed there. We took ocean viewm the balcony was large and we really enjoyed the view.
