Everything you could want from a hotel! Friendly and welcoming staff; comfortable room with A/C; wide variety of food and drinks at breakfast and dinner; breathtaking view from the roof terrace - and all within a superb location right opposite Patan Durbar square.

We got food poisoning from the hotel restaurant one night. And probably were not the only ones. We ate at the hotel every night for 5 night and for the first 3 nights had a variety of different things: chicken schnitzel; buff and chicken momos; egg bara; french fries; etc. One night (the only time on the whole trip when one of us didn't have a meal together) the other 2 of us shared chicken and buff momos and then the following night both had awful food poisoning. On our final night, one of the hotel floors which held the restaurant bathroom was covered in vomited.

My 30 year old daughter and boyfriend loved their stay here as did I. My daughter's first return to Lalitpur since she was 2 1/2 years of age. I 've been visiting intermittently for half a life time and the Pahan Chhen is what this side of town has been waiting for. An authentically and sympathetically restored Newari townhouse hidden away in a traditional courtyard behind Durbar Square. Rooftop is perfect for the local atmosphere and panoramic views whilst the en suite bedrooms are of the highest spec by local standards. Hot water plentiful and beds comfortable. Nice on site bar and restaurant for those evenings when you just want to flop. And the staff live up to local hospitality standards...eben guiding me to an excellent barber! Congratulations on developing this Newari home from home.

Need a better system to inform the sightseeing Council guards that one is a temporary local resident and therefore not fair game for daily charge!

I had a truly lovely stay at Pahan Chhen – Boutique Hotel. The property offers exceptional value for money — clean, safe, and ideally located, with a quiet charm that made me feel right at home. The staff were excellent: professional, warm, and attentive in every way. They went above and beyond to make my stay comfortable, and their kindness did not go unnoticed. I would absolutely stay here again and recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone seeking a well-priced boutique hotel experience in Kathmandu.

This was a great comfortable hotel and it felt like home. The ambience and the old-world theme of the hotel were so special. The breakfast and dinners were tasty and cooked by great chefs. A great hotel with warm and friendly staff.

The location was great, but being in a UNESCO heritage site meant each time you entered or left, you had to pay entrance tickets, which are controlled by the security guards.

The location is fantastic. The room was comfortable with air conditioning and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. We loved the historical vibe coupled with modern conveniences. There are lots of places nearby to eat, but the hotel's rooftop restaurant is also fantastic with an incredible view.

The breakfast was nice, filling and just the right amount. One comment I would add is a bit more variety would be nice. I also think adding some local food items would be nice. Scrambled eggs are great, but it would be nice to see traditional Nepalese snacks on offer for breakfast. Food is a great way to educate people about culture.

Hotel was great and a reworked beautiful old Nepali style building All staff were very attentive and helpful. Breakfast was good as was the Nepali espresso coffee. Rooftop restaurant was exceedingly pleasant with a great view plus able to experience a cool evening breeze after a hot day - the staff at the rooftop restaurant were just excellent. Menu and food at the rooftop restaurant was very good. Being so close to Patan Durbar Square means it is easy to visit both the square and the fantastic renovated palace turned into museum.

Breakfast, although good, never varied during the 6 days I stayed. There are a lot of stairs - and not always even - and to get to the roof top restaurant ( about 5 levels up) can be a bit of a struggle for older people (but this is to be expected as the hotel is situated in a genuinely old renovated building). The local dogs hovering near the hotel (not associated with the hotel) can be intimidating - the Hotel needs to attend to this.

We were travelling in a company of friends with kids. Our experience at this hotel was absolutely outstanding! The rooms are spacious, the beds are large and comfortable, and the atmosphere is refreshingly cool and undoubtly clean. The location is simply unbeatable—right on Patan Durbar Square, with all of Patan's incredible landmarks just a short walk away. Yet, despite being in the heart of the city, the hotel remains peaceful, as the windows open to a quiet inner courtyard. One of the true highlights is the stunning rooftop terrace, offering breathtaking city views and mesmerizing sunsets. The service was nothing short of exceptional—the staff went above and beyond to ensure our comfort. A special mention goes to the restaurant team on the terrace, where the waiter made our last evening truly memorable with his excellent service. A huge thank you to the management and staff for making our stay such a wonderful experience. We highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Kathmandu!

Some repair works in the courtyard though it didn't bother us too much

The proximity to Patan Darbar Square is just brilliant. The staff are so kind and it's wonderful to stay in an older building which has been renovated so tastefully literally a few steps from the magical square. Roof top area allows for an evening drink and to absorb all the sounds of the area. There's a proper coffee machine which means you can chill out back at the hotel during the day if needs be. Loads of hot water and the shower was great for us. Staff were really attentive. Breakfast was more than adequate. Wonderful Nepali experience 😍😍

The room smelled slightly stale on arrival partly as it is an older building. Once we ventilated the room with windows wide opened it was better the next day.

An excellent small heritage hotel, very close to Patan Durbar Square. The rooms were comfortable, the staff were not only extremely polite but also very friendly, helpful and accommodating (thank you all for everything)! The rooftop restaurant was extremely pleasant with a great menu (a mixture of local and international cuisine), delicious Nepalese food (don't miss the dragon chicken) and a great view of Patan Durbar Square. The staff at the rooftop restaurant were also excellent. The whole atmosphere was authentically Nepali.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Pahan Chhen in Kathmandu, and I must say, it exceeded my expectations in every way! From the moment I arrived, the staff were warm, welcoming, and attentive. The check-in process was seamless, and I was impressed by how they mix the modern design in a historic home in Durbar square. My room was spacious, clean, and comfortable, with a stunning view of Patan durbar square. The bed was incredibly comfortable I enjoyed a delicious breakfast in the morning. Overall, I would highly recommend the Pahan Chhen to anyone looking for a comfortable, convenient, and enjoyable stay in Kathmandu. I would definitely return here on my next visit!
