The chalet and hostess Fi make me feel at home. She even offered to give me a lift to the tourist centre to keep my luggage there so i dont have to walk back for them. (The bus pickup is nearer there.) Not modern but clean and pretty well maintained. The idea of separate entrances to bathroom & shower area hv separate doors so they can be used at the same time by 2 users, but lack hooks and hangers in the shower area. Fixed shower head. There is a frosted glass at the sink/changing area so it feels uncomfortable. Great to the kitchen fully & equipped, down to the cutlery, cleaning detergent. Easy parking. washing machine available. Heater in the bedroom works but not the living room. Old style charging sockets (not usb) and plug extension wires so quite hard to charge phone in bedroom. No porch light Quieter as it is away fr main road but 10min fr city centre.

Loved this property in Arthur’s Pass! The lodge we stayed in had a comfortable double bed with heated blankets, a sofa, TV, DVDs (borrowed from reception), small dining table for two, a cooking area (stove tops), fridge, sink and cleaning supplies. The bathroom was small but well functional and had a powerful shower. Overall the lodge was very spacious for two people and we had a very comfortable stay. We were able to make use of the kitchen facilities too. The owners were very welcoming and gave us recommendations on local walks such as Devil’s Punchbowl.

Nothing we didn’t like.

Pete and Fi are welcoming hosts, on hand to offer suggestions for the days walks and dinner plans. The motel is well positioned in the town, walking distance to everything, including train station and trailheads. Comfortable rooms with everything you need to self cater. Warm bedding and heaters for when the colder weather hits. Lovely benches outside on the grass to sit with a cold drink after a long hike, to listen to the bell birds and watch the bold robins. We had a great 2 days/nights here, thanks!

Beautiful view from our room.Liked hearing the trains at night. So many lovely walks ,motel unit very cosy and heating on when we arrived.Roomy and clean.

Local store very poorly stocked ,would be nice to see it updated and given a bit of a lift. Had fish and Chips from takeaway store ,fish overcooked and only a tiny serve sad coleslaw. Wish I had brought in more of my own food to cook as good kitchen in motel. Was warned by email that grocery options would be limited. We had got a few items at Springfield garage but would have been best to stop at Darfield to get groceries .

Location just at the edge of the village is great although the trains are quite noisy overnight. Rooms are fantastic with very comfy beds and lots of space. Great kitchen with everything you need and lots of nice touches everywhere. Very organised couple running the motel. Super shower and very glad to have heat pump as it is needed overnight and there is a heater in second bedroom and heated blankets. Fiona and Pete are lovely and so helpful and just live their dream in the village. Well connected with information at their fingertips and involved in many community projects.

For us nothing but if staying more than a couple nights there is not much hanging space because porta cot in wardrobe. I am sure this could be put elsewhere if not required by guests.

Property was clean and well equipped with everything we needed for our one night stay. We could even rent movies and board games/cards for a small donation. The staff went above and beyond for us and we couldn’t recommend this place enough. Unfortunately we had bad weather and didn’t know if we were going to make it to our next destination and Pete and Fi were kind enough to offer us to come back if we got stuck.

There isn’t much in terms of things to do but this is due to the area. The staff showed us some different routes you can walk around to see beautiful waterfalls and pointed us in the direction of the only cafe that is open for dinner.

Location - easy to find and 750m away from the shop/ restaurant in the village. Parking - next to your room. Staff - Was really simple, just had to call for staff on arrival. Just dropped the key on check out. WiFi speed - 300 mbps down, 140 mbps up, was pretty consistent. Much better than expected considering the remoteness of the location. Amenities - Basic kitchen with a fridge etc, was perfect for sorting yourself out with some breakfast in the morning. Bed / pillows - Bed was comfortable and warm couldn't ask for more on a cold morning. Noise levels - could hear the freight train at night if you are a light sleeper. Temperature - comfortable Shower - Clean and functional Overall comments - Nice place in beautiful surroundings, would definitely stay there again.

could hear the freight train at night if you are a light sleeper.

It was a very cute 1 bedroom apartment, close to the center of Arthur’s pass - a perfect jumping off spot for hiking. We were able to check in early so we had the whole afternoon to explore the trails. I liked that we could sleep in the twin beds in the bedroom, a bit further from any road noise. although the road was silent at night. The apartment was freshly painted and well maintained. The kitchenette allowed us to cook our own dinner. We would have loved to stay an extra night. The office had books and games to borrow but we were too tired to take advantage of that perk.

Like any older construction, there were a few ceiling cracks and stains from past water damage.

Location is great, Fi is super helpful and check-in and checkout was super smooth. The cabins are amazing with a well equipped kitchen for home cooking. The bed is very comfortable and came with an electric blanket for the cold night! We were very lucky that we had a clear night which meant it was a great opportunity to stargaze!

Noise at night / early morning from passing trains - it's very loud so if you're a light sleeper you will be disturbed

Although this place is old, it was very clean with all the little extras that make your stay enjoyable. The setting, although on the main road, is quiet even though it isn’t far from the railway line with an occasional train passing. The unit contains a well-equipped kitchen, double glazing and electric blankets to keep you warm even in October when snow fell outside and a friendly, helpful manager who made us feel very welcome.
