Loved location & size of our room, & the customer service was great allowing us to check in early. Restaurant was fabulous with a variety of top quality meals at great prices & great customer service again. We did leave our tablet in the room & emailed the hotel to organize its return & they were very helpful with this issue.

Didnt like the shared bathroom- one female & one male toilet, & one shower for all the guests in this wing and they were quite old but functional. The door frames had black grime marks around door handles and locks so need to be cleaned. Our first night we had very noisy guests next to us & the slamming of doors & thin walls didn't help their noise travelling to us. We also had lots of long cobwebs across the ceiling and down the walls in our room, so housekeeping need to look for these regularly. I know this was the original hotel building but I'm sure something could be done to negate the noise situation, & an update to bathroom facilities in the future would be great too.

Loved this place. Very laid back vibe. Don’t expect anyone to fawn over you for being a tourist in the best way. Gorgeous views of the lake from up on the hill. We had a duplex. It was perfect for our family. The balcony was really fantastic. The lake is massive and gorgeous. The property is a short uphill walk from the Trans Alpine Train, which is a must do if you can.

Not so much the property’s fault, but it was not easy to get out on the water - more of a reflection of Moana’s interest in keeping the town for its locals not the tourist trade. Which we respect, but wish we had known. Probably rentals in advance are possible from Greymouth.

The room had plenty of space. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, we didn't feel out of place. The parking was very convenient, right in front of our room. Even though it's on the main road in Moana, it's very quiet at night.

The bathrooms were very cold, probably due to the single window glazing and lacking insulation. There was also only one shower for about ten rooms, which seemed fine on our off-weekend stay, but in the busy season it could become a headache. This wouldn't have been much of an issue had it been a little warmer, even just through improving the insulation and adding a little heater of sorts. Kudos to adding enough towels to the bathroom though.

The cleanliness has improved! The room has had a recent facelift with new paint and cleaning. It’s wonderful and cosy and tidy and the improvements are noticeable. Always love our stay at the hotel - we stay in the family room every time and it’s perfect for us. The view is excellent of lake Brunner and it’s central located to the water/train station so it’s basically a dream place for us to visit for serenity and peace and beautiful access to nature while being at the hotel means access to hot food, coffee, breakfasts, dinners, fireplace and hot tubs!!!

Would love some coat hooks in the family room for hanging jackets to dry!

Gorgeous family room!! What a treat to sleep and wake up to views like that! We just stayed one night on our road trip - there are only two restaurants and no stores in town, but it’s just 30 minutes drive to Greymouth. Our highlights were walking around the town and walking by the train station down to the water.

The hosts in the evening were not super friendly, but they were very busy, and getting dinner was a little chaotic as we were not aware that we needed a reservation (or that there were only 2 restaurants in town!)

Great location, we stayed mid May - views of the Lake changed each day, from misty, moody to still clear skies and mirror like views. Hotel ranged in rooms, from older pub style rooms to newer studios, and apartments - we had a studio which was clean, tidy and met our needs. The hotel itself offers a great menu for all day dining as well as a bar to relax and play pool or listen to the dukebox. Staff are helpful and friendly.

Location especially, Cosy and history of the hotel, welcoming staff and good food. Bonus was getting the family room which then enabled our son to stay the one night which he had originally booked a bunkroom. He was a surprise guest for my husband's 70th birthday stay at the hotel! Thank you. Weather was fantastic and our guests (family staying in the suites above the hotel) loved Moana.

Noisy restaurant Saturday night, but it was at capacity.

We love the hotel lake brunner. We have stayed twice now booking their budget rooms. The beds are comfy and warm. Bathroom down the corridor is simple but clean and water is hot. On this occassion we were helped with getting a room with a fridge even though I hadn't requested it at booking. The staff are lovely and the pub itself serves excellent food. Simple breakfast but very nice. The surrounding area is beautiful and so it is great for an overnight stop and a little wander around. I think they have rooms with a budget to suit anyone.

Nothing, it's a brilliant stopover!

Great location at an affordable price. Our room was in the older part of the hotel which meant the views of the lake were not as great from our room, but we didn't let that bother us and chose to get out and enjoy the beautiful walks. We found the staff friendly and helpful and we enjoyed our meals at the Kingfisher restaurant.

The shared bathroom, while clean, is quite old and would benefit from an upgrade.

The accommodation is inexpensive, with a great view of the lake just across the door. It's also very close to the train station. In terms of dorm rooms, there's ample living space, and the bathrooms are quite nice. The bar's decor is unique, giving the establishment a classical look. They provide maps to help you find your way to your room and parking.

The bathroom drain is a bit clogged, so it takes some time for the water to drain completely. There seems to be only one kitchen in the area, with one refrigerator and two stoves.
