We were in Minors cabin 6 and the view of the lush surrounding flowers, bushes and trees was so exotic! The rooms were spacious, clean, well furnished and comfortable. The glass doors onto the lovely private covered patio was an extra bonus. Dinner was a delicious roasted veggie pizza with a fabulous Monteith beer….yum! All the employees were simply lovely and accommodating in all aspects. I even got to give an impromptu piano performance (I’m a classical pianist) on their old quite decent upright piano. What a treat that was….

Can’t imagine anything that ocould’ve been better.

We stayed in the Seddon suite in the building labeled "Bank of New Zealand". The large suite was filled with antiques, which was very fitting and cool, and had a small fridge (although the freezer compartment would not freeze more than one small tray of small ice cubes and it would not freeze our ice pack) and a small microwave. The draperies are very thick old velvet curtains, and the thick carpet is also indicative of a historic hotel, thus, it smelled moldy when we entered. We did get used to the smell, but definitely noticed it each time that we left and returned to the room. Also, the wrought-iron chairs on the back deck were nice, but one of the two was rusting. The bed was fine and we got a decent night's sleep. If you want to stay in an authentic historic hotel, and do not need "luxury" accommodations, The Theatre Royal would be a good place for you.

The hotel staff were super friendly and very helpful. The location was good for us and we ate in the hotel and had breakfast too. The Goan fish curry was spectacular, although I could have eaten much more... Continental breakfast was good value for money and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

We stayed in the Victorian suite opposite which was very spacious and had everything we needed, the bed was extremely comfortable, one of the best I've slept in on this trip and the shower was very good. I have to confess though, I found the Victorian decoration OTT and not too my personal taste, however I am absolutely certain that if my mother was still alive, she would have probably absolutely adored it.

Both of the spaces that we were in were well appointed and warm - and very prettily renovated..All of the reception staff are terrific.

There was a booking mix-up which meant we weren't in the room we had booked for either night of our two night stay. The staff worked hard to rectify this, which I really appreciated, but while both spaces were very nice, it was not the stay we had expected (and splashed out on), and we never got to relax properly because of moving.

Arriving later than expected, the manager was totally accommodating and helpful, despite the busy buzz of patrons enjoying the hospitable surroundings. We dined well in the hotel and retired to the delightful and comfortable Victoria Suite. Such furnishing detail and finish are unique, well worth a visit in themselves. The Theatre Royal in Kumara leaves us with a fond memory and our regret for too quick a departure.

A little detail: so many pillows and cushions - do they really add any charm?

Beautiful suite (we stayed in the appartment across the street in the old bank), with 2 bathrooms and bedrooms. The place and town has a lot of history which is represented in the style of the restaurant and room design. The suites are beautifully renovated and very convenient. Beds and showers are comfortable. The staff in the hotel and restaurant is very kind and welcoming, food was really REALLY good! I recommend to make reservations as there is basically only 1 restaurant in town. The town itself has got a rich history.

I loved the cottage nestled among natives. Bellbirds & fantails singing. It was private. Comfy bed. Two bathrooms & a bath in the main bedroom ❤️ Friendly, caring staff

It was a bit cold. It needs a new logburner, it didn't seal properly or put out a lot of heat. It would also benefit from having curtains/ blinds on all windows & doors to keep the heat in. A cutlery drawer would be easier than getting it out of the pantry cupboard.

Really beautifully renovated old hotel/ Theatre. Tastefully restored retaining an abundance of character and providing guests with local community history. Downstairs is the pub/ restaurant which is clearly popular with the locals too and served good sized meals. also a special mention to the bed, having been on a road trip around the South Island with my partner who has chronic back pain. it was great to finally sleep on a bed that didn’t aggravate it, had lovely firm mattress but with a very comfy topper! we would definitely stay again on our next visit to the west coast and have already recommended to family!

Unexpected cottage further along the road, rather than hotel. It was old, quirky, interesting. Spacious and roomy for two friends. Big bedroom for me with a bath in it!

Nothing really although might need a wee bit updating here and there. It's old, I know, but still. Also, once the cleaner has finished, she/he needs to pick up the many dead blowflies on the carpet!

Great old world feel to the hotel. Staff were very freindly, approachable and added to the experiance. The history of the town is fantastic and is known by staff.

Dinner meal was average, service was very good though. Had a Pizza that had little flavor unfortunatly and felt was over priced. Room and bathroom was nice with great charactor. We passed on breakfast option as again felt a little over priced for continental option only, but it is what it is.
