Beautiful historic house situated only a couple of kilometres from the centre of town. Lovely hospitable and friendly hosts. Very clean room and bathroom. We had a delicious breakfast served in the morning and tea and coffee was available any time including being available in the room. Despite being mid August, a warm fire in the lounge room and heaters in the bedroom made our stay very comfortable. A great stop on the Alps2Ocean trail. Highly recommend. Thank you John and Lynda for a delightful stay.

Always find these old homes converted to B&B are delightful places. Old world charm and friendly hosts. Welcoming but unobtrusive although happy to chat and share as required. Good cooked breakfast with cereals, juice etc. Could add yoghurt for those not keen on milk.

Located on the main highway from Oamaru to Kurow, at busy times of the year, the road noise can be intrusive although it did tend to fade as darkness appeared. But being on an open speed highway, the noise would be higher than most city based locations. Would I stay again? Probably yes and I guess that's the telling part...! Bed was OK as opposed to great.

Lovely historic place in the small town of Kurow. John and Fiona were such friendly Hosts and super welcoming. The room was charmingly decorated, clean and cozy and the ensuite bathroom really was great aswell. The room is up a short flight of stairs so maybe not ideal for people with mobility issues but we loved the charming, qirky details of the place. Breakfast was prepared freshly by Fiona and just delicious. Defintiely recommend staying here if you're in the area!

I enjoy historic places, and Western House, built around 1871 certainly qualifies. The rooms are large and very comfortable. We had the lounge with its wood fire to ourselves. The host stored our bikes overnight in a garage. The breakfast portions were generous and bacon and eggs were on offer. Being in a rural setting, there were many animals around the house that children would probably enjoy.

There was a minor communication issue with the cook, who lives locally, over the cooked breakfast timing but the continental breakfast that we had expected was available, and the hiccup didn't detract at all from the enjoyment of our stay.

The hosts were down to earth people and very accommodating. The heritage listed house offered history of the region, piano and open fire in the sitting room, baby chickens in the garden to entertain and exceptional food. Home-made bread, peaches from the tree and an opportunity for some social interaction with other guests.

The stairs are narrow and steep, if you have an upstairs room.

We had such a wonderful stay at Western House. We booked it the night before after a few nights camping with our toddler, and we needed some R&R! We booked the studio which was so lovely and homely, with a great en suite and shower and access to own small back garden. We were greeted by Linda who took our son to feed the chickens, which he absolutely loved. The home made breakfast in the morning was also delightful. All in all, we were over the moon to stay here and hope we can come back again one day!

The room was fantastic, celan, warm, and cozy. Linda and John were excellent hosts who accomodated our late arrival time and were always ready to greet us with a smile. The breakfast was fantastic, served hot and delicious, and the surrounding land and animals were georgous and a perfect view to wake up to. The only negative was having to say goodbye!

John and Lynda were excellent hosts, very knowledgeable about the history of the property. The breakfast and other 'treats' that were provided exceeded our expectations and I strongly recommend the evening meal. This is an excellent place to stay if you are doing the Alps to Ocean trail, with a hearty breakfast and the option of the evening meal, a garage for your bike, and comfortable rooms. John kept the fire going which was much appreciated.

John the host was very accommodating, especially staying up late until we arrived close to 10pm. It was a beautiful BnB that looked so much like The Dragonfly Inn from Gilmore Girls! Beautiful breakfast by Fiona, lovely studio and the kids loved feeding the chickens in the morning. Cannot recommend enough!!

We didn't stay there long enough!

Convenient location for the stop during transfer from east of the island to the west (Mt. Cook). Great hosts. They prepared us scrambled eggs from eggs from their own hens for the breakfast.

It was not an issue at all for us but be prepared for a bit steep staircase to the first floor where the rooms are located.
