This hotel is more than just a hotel. The owners make you feel like part of the family they are there to help. They are fourth generation owners and they have got everything correct. A beautiful historic hotel in a tranquil l setting next to a lac. Absolutely perfection itself. Nothing was a problem. I am lactose intolerant and they prepared different meals for me. The breakfast had so much choice even vegan cheese which was really lovely, and while I'm praising this hotel, I would just like to say they have the best coffee in Norway that I've tasted. Congratulations for treating their guests as friends. When we come back to Norway we certainly will go out of our way to stay there again. The location overlooking the lake is Paradise, with the nicest owners.

We had an incredible stay at this accommodation! We opted for the economy class, and it exceeded our expectations. The rooms are located in a separate building from the main one, and each has its own private entrance, complete with a table and bench right outside. This setup allowed us to enjoy breathtaking views of the fjord from our doorstep—simply stunning. The property itself is lovely to explore, and we captured some amazing photos during our walks around the area. The breakfast offered was excellent, with a wide variety of options including eggs, bacon, fruits, croissants, ham, cheese, muesli, and more. It had everything we needed to start the day off right. For the price, this accommodation is a fantastic deal, offering great value for money. For motorcycle enthusiasts, the roads leading to the hotel and beyond are a dream—perfectly curving with stunning scenery at every turn. I highly recommend this place and will definitely be returning in the future!

The location of this hotel is beautiful and we wished that we had more time to stay here and explore. We stayed in one of the rooms in the motel part of the hotel (economy double) which were clean, comfortable and sorted, if a little snug around the bed itself. There is an evening buffet which you can book and the food is tasty and well presented. The real bonus of this hotel is not only the location (stunning), but the personal approach from Lorentz and Emma Hjelle who are continuing the family business of 125 years. Lots of general rooms to sit in and experience the comfort and history of the hotel. The dining room is light and airy with beautiful rooms.

We loved our entire experience at the Hjelle. The hotel reminds me of a beautiful old home or mansion. The breakfasts and dinners were delicious. The hosts/proprietors are such a warm, nice, helpful, engaging couple! Our room was spacious and clean, with a big bathroom and great water pressure. The setting of the hotel is fantastic. It's right on a beautiful lake, in a very picturesque, tiny town, resulting in us taking lots of pictures! And it's very driveable to the things you want to see in the area, e.g., Loen, etc.

The room was big enough to accommodate a couple, it was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was clean. Water pressure was good. The food was nice. Quite a nice open buffet type of dinner and breakfast. The hotel offers you a packed lunch for a certain price and you can fill your bottle for coffee (for a certain price). The staff was very friendly. Always smiling and willing to help you all the time. The hotel location is quite good as well. There are nice places you can visit by foot. The hotel staff gives you a booklet you should check after you settle in your room. There are suggestions of places where you should visit including the routes and nice places to visit.

The property is beautiful!! The hotel is 20 steps in front of a stunning blue lake next to picturesque mountains! The room was comfortable and clean. The shared space to relax, read, and visit was comfortable and cozy. The provided breakfast was delicious and nutritious! It is located far enough from the city to be truly relaxing while still being close to so many wonderful activities, hikes, and sites. The owners and staff are friendly, kind, and welcoming. I would say it is now one of my favorite places in the world!

Gosh, what an amazing setting, and the Hjelle Hotel is the perfect place to enjoy it. Communication was quick and informative, and all the staff so friendly. The room is compact - the beds comfy. Our room didn't have a TV, so the lovely table and bench seat outside the front door was ideal to take in views of the stunning glacial waters. The shower is fantastic..lots of pressure! We ate in the quaint restaurant for dinner (which was delicious) and breakfast (also yummy with lots of options).

Our stay at Hjelle Hotel was one of our very favorites during our two week road trip in Norway. Mr. Hjelle, the owner of this beautiful property was so friendly and welcoming. He treated us to a very special room and knew so much about the history of the hotel. The views from the restaurant are spectacular, and the dinner (as well as the breakfast) was outstanding. We enjoyed a beautiful walk along the lake to a very scenic waterfall. We were so sorry we had to leave after just one night and would love to come back to this wonderful place.

Everything was perfect.

The location is excellent, directly on the fjord. Beautiful view of the fjord from our 1st-floor room in the annex building. We had a front porch with some seating and a table that would have to be shared with the room next door. But we never saw anyone from that room. There is a lot of property in front of and to the side of the hotel with a small gazebo. There are rapids that we could hear somewhere behind the hotel. But the sound was not loud and disturbing. It was a little warm during our June stay. Since the room stretched from the front to the back of the building, we were able to open windows at the front and back and get a cross-draft to help bring in the cool air overnight. We had a delicious dinner on the one night that we stayed. Reservations were needed in advance. The breakfast buffet was also delicious, varied and not over-crowded. Parking was fairly plentiful, close and free.

With climate change, some Norwegian hotels may have to start thinking about adding air conditioning for its spoiled guests - like us. Temperatures at night in June were quite nice, but the daytime temps and ever-present sun can make the hotel room a little uncomfortable before "nightfall" - the sunlight never really went away overnight.

This is a gem of a hotel, situated at the shores of a beautiful mountain lake. It has a very traditional and comfortable feel, and a staff that obviously takes great pride in delivering a great customer experience. The dinner buffet is really lovely- try that if you can!
