Fantastic location - deep inside a thick canopy of trees - welcome reprieve from a hot place like Madurai. The landscaped gardens and the abundance of peacocks in the property makes it enchanting and the property is a feast for the eyes and soul. The service was amazing and Mr. Soby Thomas was exceptional - went out of the way to cater to our needs.

(1) Gym was not available as it was under renovation (2) The so called Nature-Walk is meaningless. Not worthwhile and not informative. (3) Only one restaurant was functional and the menu choice was not awesome. Madurai is a hot destination for foodies with explosive flavours and mesmerizing local cuisine. But what was offered in the restaurant was very limited and template-driven.

All the staff are very friendly from reception till dropping us off at the train station. Special thanks to Eashwar Sir for making the stay special by letting us experience the Meenakshi Amman Darshanam moon deck, arranging cabs making sure every morning and night that we have having comfortable and fun stay. Soby Thomas ensured we had a great room and have comfortable stay. Thanks to Aasai Thambi Sir we could feed rice and Krishan Sir for giving ground nuts to feed the peacocks and experience the dance just next to us, standing. The food was great, and we had dinner and breakfast and enjoyed it. Overall great experience and I recommend Gateway for a perfect stay at Madurai

The location of this property is amazing. It has a huge area and on top of the hill. One can get an amazing view of Madurai. The property is constantly visited by some friendly peacocks and that was the main highlight for me and my family. They have activities but we could not experience them due to our tight schedule. The hotel has some excellent staff members n I would like to quote a few names in particular - Eashwar, Pandian, Govind, Venkat. They were super helpful and very attentive. It's a very relaxing and rejuvenating experience. I would recommend to spend one entire day to get the best feel of the property.

Since this is a Taj property I expected it to be perfect is all the sense but it does have a few loose ends. Having said that, the stay is very comfortable and enjoyable.

1. Stunning property, 20minutes away from the Madurai Meenakshi Amman temple, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. 2. The selling point is definitely their beautiful peacocks that will welcome you and greet you every now and then. 3. The rooms are pretty clean and hygienic. Wide array of tea and a Lavazza coffee pod machine in the self service area impressed me. 4. Staffs are humble and extremely happy to help you. 5. I booked two premium rooms, but they were so happy to upgrade it to colonial rooms which had an impressive view of madurai city from the window. 6. Excellent breakfast buffet and lounge area with mind blowing view and service. 7. Spectacular pool. There is a guy on duty to constantly clean the pool which is great.

1. Wish they had given some attention to the verandahs and balcony. They appeared little unattended and could spot couple of lizards in the verandah which kinda freaked me out. 2. Air conditioning in the rooms was a bit bad. Needed better functioning AC and a good humidifier to not mess up your throat at the end of the stay. 3. While their buffet and service were great, it still lacked items like waffles, Nutella, cream, bacon, berries. Still don’t get why 5star properties try to cut down their cost by withholding quality items. 4. Their delay in providing extra toiletries for the 3rd guest in the room was extremely annoying. I had to call them twice over phone to get it done.

The staff people at room services were quite active. At Reception, except Mr Pandian and one more person, It being more of a star hotel , other staff members at reception were paying more attention towards International tourists. The services provided for picking up luggage from Reception to room and room to reception was excellent.

With such high prizes every booking should have complimentary breakfast. Every guest should be treated with same affection. At arrival, in every hotels, the reception ladies/ gents usually greet the guests, but this was lacking.

It is a clean and serene property. Location is very good. Behaviour of staff was warm and welcoming. There are many peacocks in the property and it is a pleasure to watch them from so close. Also it is very camera friendly.

Both Lunch and the Dinner Buffet were very very nominal, not matching the standards of a gateway. Breakfast was also not very elaborate, there were no heaters in the buffet spread so everything was cold. Also the taste was just ok.

Great location. The place is on top of a hill so has a spectacular view of the city. There are plenty of gorgeous peacocks roaming around. The place is well maintained. They have hiking trails. The rooms were very big.

The food is unnecessarily expensive. The dinner buffet was 1800 rupees. I don't think the management made the correct price point for the food. The bed in the room was a queen bed not king. I am not sure why in such a large room the bed needs to be smaller.

We really loved our stay at the Gateway Hotel on Pasumalai in Madurai. The property is on 63 acres of wooded area, and sits on a hill called Pasumalai - meaning "cow mountain". The view from the property is amazing. Every time we returned from our daily activities and turned into the property, I felt like I was turning into Shangri-la. The property is an old colonial style building that the team has done a very good job maintaining. There are about 60 peacocks and peahens on the property - adding to the magic of the resort. The dining area is set up very well and every meal was memorable, especially the coffee. The staff leans in to help and everyone serves with a smile. The front desk manager Pandian greeted us with a smile and checked up on us regularly to make sure that our stay was comfortable. Thanks to the whole team and staff at the Gateway Hotel.

We felt as though we had literally entered the gates of heaven. The campus is walkable, the foliage is sumptuous, and we felt blessed by peacocks roaming about, a sense of quiet history, and majestic views of the city, both day and night… including a view on the Meenakshi Temple… What a wonderful staff, specifically the front desk manager, Mani Guptan, who went way out of his way for us, helped us obtain reliable transportation to local points of interest.

Be ready to walk to the dining area from your room. The walk is beautiful, but it takes a few minutes, so you need to plan your visits there intentionally! When you get there it’s worth every second.

Hi We had a very good stay in The Gateway Pasumalai Madurai A Great & Excellent Hotel in a very beautiful location and environment, particularly with Peacocks. We enjoyed the stay started with very worm and friendly welcome by the Staff when we arrived, giving us all recommendations and advises to stay our stay memorable. Staff were there always to help with smile. Very particularly I want mention about Mr Thangapandian, a great excellent customer service and all rounder. He had answers for everything. He made sure our stay at the Hotel is memorable, he helped us in all our needs, he was there for us anytime, this is very positive for people like us return back many times and also recommending to our friends. His networking outside to help us is excellent. A great asset for the hotel. The next person helped us is the security supervisor I forgot his name, but Mr Thangapandian knows. Please give our appreciation to all of them. Two constructive improvement points - Resturant menu need more traditional Tamil Nadu food choices and who understand the local foods Next is please do better on the Drivers accommodation, the toilets and shower areas are very bad, the driver complained that it is one of the baddest experience he had over years.
