I loved the whole outdoor atmosphere. It was classy, peaceful, cool spots to chill with a glass of wine, a coffee, or a book. The music was soft and pleasant, well-picked. The rooms were spacious and clean, with vintage pieces of furniture but everything with good taste and attention to the place's history. While the restaurant served excellent cuisine, I found the variety slightly lacking. But for a two-night staying it was alright. The bar was well-stocked, and the coffee was excellent.

While I very much enjoyed the company of the four labradors, I was disheartened to notice that some of them had ticks. I managed to remove a few ticks from them, but a thorough check is necessary. Given that it's tick season, I hope the dogs receive the necessary care promptly to ensure their well-being.

As usual Zabola is offering the experience we are looking for: relaxing atmosphere, nice staff.

Zabola is our “secret” place for almost 6 years. We are coming constantly, but this time the main problem was the food. Please do something about it, because the taste and the plate were mediocre to bad and for sure will attract bad feedback in the future. This review is a feedback for Zabola management to improve things as they were 2-3 yaers ago.

Location, history, and beautiful landscapes and architecture

Though we paid a good amount of money for the stay, there was not a single facility included in this price. Very expensive restaurant (20 euros for a chicken plate with vegetables, with little food range), as well as leisure activities - bike rental was over 15 euros/person/2h. The bedroom (our case the brick room) had spider webs all over the walls and dust on the fireplace shelf. Moreover, the bed sheets were torn.

It’s like being in a fairy tale- cozy, food is traditional, horse riding activity, everything is antique and authentic, I would highlight out of everything the bathroom and the fireplace. Nevertheless I would highlight Levente, he is professional and most of all he is very kind. He made our stay flawless.

The following morning as we woke up the room was pretty cold. No matter which room you pay for, breakfast is not included.

The food served in the restaurant is average, although it is sold at gourmet prices. As Zabola domain is placed in a village, there are no other restaurants nearby, therefore you have to drive 10-15km to either Covasna or Târgu Secuiesc in order to have lunch/diner.

The room was beautiful and it had lovely touches including chocolates. The check in was quite straightforward (though you need to telephone for reception). The restaurant staff were attentive and polite, and the food was good quality. The grounds are pleasant to walk around.

Unfortunately I had booked Zabola as I wanted to do a horse ride. This was cancelled on the morning due to the weather. Whilst it had been raining overnight, the morning itself was dry and bright, so the cancellation was disappointing. I think other riding centres would have proceeded in these weather conditions.

Cosy room with fireplace

The waiter (the one with earrings) was rude; he barely greeted us when we entered the restaurant. He did not bring the menu to the table even after 10 minutes of waiting and I had to go and ask him. His answer was: do you have a reservation? - the restaurant was empty. Food is very expensive and not diverse at all. Poor breakfast and you are not informed that coffee or juice is not included - you just pay it at checkout. A lot of spider webs in every corner. If you are not careful with the fireplace and wood gets near the edge, smoke will come into the room and it will not be a pleasure to sleep.

A visit to Zabola estate will make you believe that social inequalities makes sense. You will get a glance of the slow life, tranquility and relaxation that history provided for a few. I believe the estate its one of the most beautiful domain in Romania, available for public usage, essentially it is a huge park, with multiple ponds, picnic areas, horses, sauna in the forest, etc There is an intended presence of old, of wood and squeakiness.

usage of electronic cigarettes in the restaurant was not prohibited (or ban was not enforced).

Very nice location, nice rooms , very warm ambient.

I didn’t like that they are serving freeze potato instead of natural potato, it is not suitable with the ambient and the price you are paying.

The breakfast buffet was not great. Three years ago you could choose from breakfast options and there would also be drinks included (coffee, tea etc). Now all drinks are for extra pay. One weird aspect is that on the last day of our stay there was no breakfast buffet and the same options as before were severely overpriced (double the price for the same meals as the other days of our stay). The floors in the room were squeaking. The shower head was not functioning properly. It should be changed.
