The village in which Visalam is situated is the best amongst all Chettinad villages. It is clean and has a lot of mansions around. The hotel feels more like a home with excellent food, great service and smiling faces all around. The filter coffee is super 👌. Swimming pool and restaurant areas are well laid out. Nice cotton sarees in the hotel shop as well. Room 204 is Huge! The hotel made a convenient base for us to go around the mansions as well as to Tanjore, Karaikudi, Athangudi and Madurai.

The rooms were clean and spacious. It makes you feel that you can understand what life was like for the people who lived there many many years ago. The swimming was wonderful. The food was very delicious and the staff made sure to understand how we like certain things. One of the highlights was the cooking demonstration of a Chettinad typical dish. The chef made an unbelievable delicious dish in a matter of less than 10 mins ( the vegetables were chopped already). She was very gracious and we sampled the dish. She thought we would eat it all, but we were too full from lunch. We requested that very dish for dinner, which was not on the menu for that evening, but they served it to us anyway, SPECTACULAR! When we asked about the spices they used, a different chef came to our table and explained the nuances of the spices used. He even email us instructions as how to make one of the spice mixtures. Another special activity was the morning bike ride. It is absolutely worthy!!!! Everyone at Visalam was equally attentive and caring and made us feel so happy that we were there. At the end we felt sad to leave the people there.

We had a wonderful 3 nights stay at Visalam. Very beautiful art deco house : authenticity and charm. Excellent place with a very kind and professional team. Food excellent too : all is local and tasty. We loved to have breakfast in the garden, lunch at the pool and dinner on the terrace. Pool area is very pleasant too. The hotel propose visits and activities, we did the heritage walk, cycling tour and temple tour..all were very nice. It was also very easy to discuss with the other guests, probably because the atmosphere of the house was harmonius. Excellent property truly retaining the authenticity of Chettinadu. The house was immaculate. The rooms very super big and airy. Food was served at different locations for every meal, giving a unique sense of ambience all the time. The food was excellent as well and had a personal touch by the chef and his team at every meal. The staff were extremely courteous and helpful, ready to help at any given time, with warm and welcoming smiles.

The room was very spacious and awesome. Traditional yet with all modern aminities.Every staff member always held a genuine smile when we talked to them and was more than happy to help with anything that we would need .

It will be great if they have more options in the menu, they have a fixed menu only. Also, the dinner was very much regular while we expected something special from chettinad cuisine.Tea was something we didn't feel good about. There was something very wrong with the taste of tea which needs to be taken care.it was literally smelling like fish tea!!!!

Beautifully restored Chettinad mansion. Rooms were very spacious with lovely period furniture. Beautiful old photographs of the owners family are displayed through the property and it adds a unique homely touch and takes us back in time. We tried the vegetarian Chettinad saapadu which was awesome. We took a nice evening walk around the village with Mr. Siva who also gave us tips for sightseeing around the region and even arranged for us to see the owners other mansion in a nearby village. The staff went out of the way to make us comfortable.

The warm hospitality. Mr. John the Estate Manager came personally to meet and greet us. The chef was amazing and gave authentic Chettinad food... Since we are vegetarians we had good choice of menu The facilities exceeded our expectation... particularly the spacious room was giving us a Palace living feel. The car wash support was a pleasant surprise.

What a fantastic hotel! Beautiful building throughout. Lovely cool big rooms. Great swimming pool and grounds. The staff are so warm, friendly and very helpful. The food is superb. I took two early morning cycle rides with Shiva around the local villages and these were superb too - Shiva was a local expert and showed us some very interesting places. A relaxing stay in first rate heritage hotel.

We truly enjoyed our stay at Vishalam. The room was excellent, beautifully maintained, and rich with traditional charm. The staff were incredibly supportive—especially Siva, who went above and beyond to assist us. Our city tour was well-organized, and Siva’s help throughout made it even more enjoyable. Overall, a wonderful and memorable experience.

Minimal breakfast, less than that is impossible. You can only go up to the second floor by stairs. There is no refrigerator in the room. There is no connection between the hotel and how it is defined as 5 stars. The price of the hotel is exorbitant compared to the value you receive.
