Some secrets should not be kept and the Palacio del Intendente is one. After the cathedrals of Sevilla, Granada, and Cordoba, the madding crowds thronging Granada’s Albaicín and the Judería of Córdoba, the filigree intricacies of the Alcazar of Sevilla and the Nasrid Palaces of Alhambra, to discover the essence of a humbler, more intimate every day Andalusia was a particular privilege. Squeezed out of Cordoba by the pushing and aimless mobs of tourists, we stopped an hour or so further up the Madrid road at Guarromán, and were delighted to have done so. To stop was to arrive at a moment in which the late 18th century co-exists with the conveniences of a digital age. The Placio del Intendente is a royal post stopover of an earlier period, and the one-time home of a provincial governor. Now it is a hotel run by a man who has spent many years living in far-flung locales—from London to Lima to the coastal communities of the Gulf of Thailand—only to return to the Palacio, the very place of his birth (Room 5). He has given himself to continuing a particular type of hospitality in this, his familial home, bending the traditional to harmonize with his wide culture and experience. The village also boasts an excellent restaurant, La Mezquita. Guarromán proved to be more than a stop on the road, but a lasting and pleasurable memory. What could be better than a soak in the Jaccuzi after an excellent meal?
Everything was fine. In the interior central courtyard, on the far wall from the reception, there hangs the portrait of a woman seated on the ground, resting against a broken wagon wheel, the pose is from the age of Goya, as is the woman's gown, but the painterly technique and the woman represented are distinctly contemporary. The painting expresses quite well the temporal interplay of this hotel. There is however no need to suffer a broken wheel or shattered axle to find reason to stop at the Palacio del Intendence.

Beautifully restored old Palace in a very pleasant Town.Very kind owner, made us feel at home.Complimentary coffee and tea were provided in a salon which led into a plant filled patio.with swimming pool.Extremely tastefully decorated throughout, some exquisite objects, furniture, ceramics, a delight. Our room looked out over a small courtyard. The room was comfortable, light, with comfortable beds.We found a very good restaurant,Yuma, which served barbecued meats and a whole host of excellent dishes, very well priced.
The bathroom had a very noisy fan. The pillow was rather flat.

Gorgeous little hotel with a real boutique feel. Spotlessly clean. Lovingly restored. Host (Manuel) was super friendly and helpful. Pool deck and kitchen facilities were unexpected benefits. Set in a small town where everyone was super friendly. Would definitely return!

Very friendly welcome from the host. Heating, which was great as we arrived in the early evening in early February. Room was very comfortable. Bed and pillows exceptionally comfortable. Free tea and coffee which was very welcome.
Would of liked a kettle to boil water for tea....but thats being very fussy! Cannot find fault with anything else. A great place to stay to break up journey between north and southern Spain.

The outdoor pool was an excellent facility. It was a minimum of 1.5m deep so a good depth to swim. More a pool for adults than young children. It was nice to have a table and 2 comfortable chairs in the room. Also you could make coffee and various teas for yourself in a room on the ground floor. For us this was an overnight stop off to break a long drive. It was a very good choice for the purpose, much nicer than a modern motorway hotel.
The only thing we didn’t like was that only one pillow each for the bed. There was a blanket which we folded to make a bolster but it would have been nice to have had 2 more pillows provided.

Perfectly located in the centre of the town. A stop in Guarroman is highly recommended if only to spend a night at the beautiful, clean and friendly Palacio, eat dinner at the La Mesquite restaurant and stock up on local pastries at the Bermúdez cake shop and cheese at Quesos&Besos!
