Location is very close to train station (from both major lines). Nice area to walk around with a mix of the old and new and the sea. Some major attractions (Mikimoto Island and Toba aquarium) within 3 minute walk. Breakfasts are traditional Japanese (not western) so very nice if you like real Japanese style. The family room is quite large. Didn't try their dinners but many (seafood) dining choices nearby, as well as a take-out freshly made Bento box within 2 minutes walk. We found the restaurant Sazanami (next to Bento shop) was excellent for a Japanese style restaurant with large fried prawns but other things as well. We did a 1/2 day excursion into the national park and to have shellfish lunch with the women who dive for them. A good experience provided you like BBQ shellfish as I do. Kaito Yumin Club is next door to hotel and runs the trips. We would have liked to stay more than 3 nights.

We are not young but we're OK with a 3rd floor room with stair access. The owners carried our bags for us. There may not always be an English speaking person on hand, so hand-waving was needed to communicate, but the Japanese are very kind.

Although it isn’t as flash as it looked in the pictures, this was one of the most amazing places I’ve ever stayed. The ladies spoke limited English, but made us feel so welcome on arrival, it almost felt like long lost family. The room was enormous with quilts being excessively fluffy and cozy. Although we didn’t have time to finish it, a traditional FRESHLY made, abundant, breakfast was provided by a chatty aunty type who I didn’t understand but loved. Gorgeous and delicious. And then as we left, Grandmother gave us rice balls and fresh fruit to take with us.

Couldn’t find a heater when we checked in; but jumped in bed and got super cozy very quickly.

Wife & I had a lovely and delicious dinner experience at Kaigetsu. Breakfast was also an excellent and fulfilling Japanese Ryokan experience. The Hostess and staff were delightful. Wife is rusty and hasn't regularly conversed in her native language & I didn't adequately practice; but, we managed to have some pleasant communication thanks to Google Translation on the iPhone. The Hostess sent us off each day with a couple rice balls & tangerine for each of us; a beautiful touch. The Onsen was fine after a long day of sightseeing.

Could use an elevator (LOL)

Friendly hosts who went out of their way to make us feel welcome. We arrived early because I was worried about a reported train delay but we were able to check in early so we had time to rent bikes and explore. The matriarch of the hotel was so sweet and friendly and even provided a shopping bag when she saw my plastic one was a bit tattered and home made lunch of onigiri made with the local seaweed specialty. Such nice people

Noisy neighbour banging upstairs at midnight sounded like they were stomping around like elephants but I put earplugs in

Specificity of the hotel is that meals have to be ordered in advance, at booking stage. Otherwise no meals (not even breakfast) are available. It is an od japanese style Inn, you leave your shoes at the entrance and the home shoes at the entrance to your room. Very convenient room of two parts: one with beds and the other of living room style equipped with a japanese table 20 cm high and sitting on the flour (tatami). All very nice ! The host drove us to the station nearby and offered onigiri for the trip. Extremely nice and kind.

no personal lift in the hotel but luggage may be transported by special lift for it.

Very friendly and helpful host (mother and daughter team) and their staff. Location is good, near to JR station, lots of seafood restaurants within a few minutes walk. The lady owner (mother) recommended a seafood restaurant, Bun, two minutes walk from the hotel, which serves excellent fish and oysters. The seafood was fresh, the oysters were juicy and most importantly, reasonably priced. We didn't realise that The Mikimoto Pearl island is just across the hotel (walk across the carpark), The lady host explained to us how to get there. The daughter who speaks good English, told us that they are the fifth generation and the hotel has been operated by their family for 150 years. Although the hotel looks old, the rooms are clean and the bathroom and toilet look newly renovated and is the typical modern style that you find in most new hotels. They also own and operate a travel agency two shops next to the hotel.

Hotel has no lift so if you have mobility issues, it would be problematic as the rooms are upstairs. I have a knee issue but managed to get up and down slowly. The luggage bags will be handled by the staff and they deliver them to your room. I didn't use the onsen, but my husband did. He said it was small and quite slippery, so go with another person in case you fall and nobody knows.

We stayed in Kaigetsu for one night only but it's a very nice stay. The location is good (close to the train station). A old but beautiful Japanese style hotel. The host is very friendly and welcoming. We arrived early and was able to deposit our luggage first. After one day tour, our luggage was already in our room. Our room was clean and spacious. We enjoyed the hot spring and the breakfast also. Next day, the host even prepared lunch bags (お握り/onigiri) for us when we checked-out. So touching. Will come back if I visit Toba again.

It is an old Inn with lots of charme. The staff is very nice and lovely and we had a very nice breakfast. Also we got umbrella when we needed to go out and onigiri for the trip. Position is very close to station and other attractions like castle ruins and aquarium.

At some point you see the lack of renovation (all fine for the price) and the breakfast time was a bit early, we could choose only 7:30 or 8 in the morning. View from the room is not very nice and the train runs very close so expect some noise all night.

Great location, very close to train station, Aquarium, Pearl Museum and restaurants, lovely host, good Onsen, fantastic breakfast (Japanese of course), Quiet and comfortable. Great stay.

Need to be a bit careful if you want a late evening out, seems the entrance doors are locked after 11pm and you have no entry key, no night staff, but not 100% sure on this as we don't speak any Japanese and the late staff have very little English, so I would advise to check on this. But doesn't hurt to go to bed early anyway!

Staying at Kaigetsu gave us a truely traditional Japanese experience. Plenty of room to spread out, close to the train station, ferry terminal, restaurants and only a couple of 100 metres to Mikimoto Pearl Island. This is a fantastic base to explore all that the beautiful Ise Peninsula has to offer. We were treated like family.
