What an amazing hotel and location. We were absolutely blown away, as this went way above our expectations. Marvao is a vert special place and the location of the hotel is as far as you can go to, at the top of this very steep town. It is right next door to the castle entrance and the whole town is surrounded by castle walls - you truly are in a fortress. From the moment we arrived and were greeted by Teresa, we knew that this was going to be somewhere that we would not forget. The road up to the hotel is very narrow and you are probably better with a small car (we had a Fiat 500 which was fine), and once you have tackled what is a bit of a scary ride, it is well worth it. We were in room number 15 which was superior and well worth paying the extra for. The room was very comfortable with a canopy bed, but the views - oh my - you cannot explain to anyone what that is really like. They are breath taking and you do have your own terrace which includes 2 chairs and a table plus 2 sun-loungers. We sat with our bottle of Alentejo wine trying to take it all in and watching several Eagles glide over us which made it even more special. Even the bathroom has a window that looks out over the view but there is only a bath (which is facing the view), with a hand held shower. There is a jacuzzi available (you do need to book this with Reception) which again looks out over the incredible landscape. There is plenty of parking available next to the hotel and the buffet breakfast had plenty to choose from. We went to a great restaurant for dinner (Portuguese cuisine), which Teresa recommended and booked for us and was only a few minutes walk, then we went back to our room to watch the most incredible sunset from our terrace. We really did feel that this was the closest we could get to heaven!! We will with no doubt, go back to marvellous Marvao and to the Dom Dinis.

The rooms we booked had great views. The bed was comfortable. I really liked our terrace room. The breakfast was great! Julia, the front desk lady, was super nice. We were given a gift box for our dogs of treats and kibble when we arrived.

The Jacuzzi was pretty dirty so we didn't use it. It had a nasty film all around the edges. The water was murky but cleared up after it was treated by the front desk person. The Jacuzzi was right outside of our room #15, and when there were kids in there, you could hear them inside our room. The price was high for the 2 rooms we booked. I think I would look for cheaper options if I bring my visitors to Marvão again.

Wowza! Do you want a unique location? Your own little hilltop (really high hilltop!) town to investigate? Your own fort, about 100 m away to wander through and explore? A sensational 360 degree view for miles and miles from the wall of the town. Then don’t stay here. Kidding!!!!!!Yes. Stay here!!! What a place! Loved it. From the drive through town, with streets so narrow that there are literally only inches between the side mirrors and the buildings, to the jaw dropping views from our room over the expanse. Lovely staff and great breakfast. An informal café/bar restaurant (with super friendly family running it) right across the street, or fancier dining a short walk away. A unique experience. Highly recommend.

What a highlight of our Portugal visit. Experiencing this medieval village high on the mountain top takes you back in time. The accommodations were superb. We were right next to the castle and across the small roadway from a good cafe. Breakfast was filling and nutritious. Such good bread! It is true, the steps to the rooms are a bit of a challenge. We did not want to lug our suitcases up the stone stairs so we quickly put what we needed into a small bag and that worked. One last piece of advice, when you enter the staggered gates to the walled area, stay to the left, as the road is less challenging. Thank you to the owners for making our stay so pleasant.

This second stay was as wonderful as the first one last year, even if we switched from their most expensive to the most affordable room. Same service, same overall experience. Kind ready-to-help staff, able to reserve a table in their restaurants, amazing view from the terrace, tasty breakfast (remember to ask for the espresso). The room was bigger than expected (perk of having a pet with us?) and, even if it's facing the busy streets during the Festa da Castanha, we barely heard anything with the windows closed.

The stairs can be hard to climb for lower mobility guests (it's part of the charm of older buildings though). Tiny outdoor tables made breakfast a bit challenging.

Good location, next to the big castle and with spectacular views across the country below you. Good breakfast with lots of choices. Dining is at a related restaurant nearby..good food for slightly inflated prices. The ride up to the top is quite exciting and requires good driving skills. Parking is free and next door. We did not use the jacuzzi but it looked inviting.

Not much, no shampoo, only body soap. Every morning just 1 tea bag.. why not 2-3? No coffee or milk either. Room was a little narrow between (big) double bed and wall, hard to pass through without kicking against the bed at night.

This was one of our favorite stops on our 10 day trip through Portugal. From the moment we turned a corner in the approaching road and first saw Marvao high up on the hilltop, the experience was magical. The town is compact, clean, and efficient. Dom Dinis has parking available onsite. The check-in was efficient. The room was clean and well outfitted with patio, claw-foot tub and a unbelievable view, a tremendous value for the price. On top of all that, the castle and gardens with panoramic views across the hills and valleys near the border with Spain was simply breathtaking. The breakfast was minimalistic, but adequate, hard boiled eggs, pastries, cold cuts, espresso, enough to get you going in the morning, not enough to write home about. I wish we had booked another day at this lovely hotel in this gorgeous village.

Unfortunately, the hot tub, which was one of the reasons I was attracted to the hotel, was out of order at the time of our stay. If it were working, one could sit in it with an awesome view.

The location of Dom Dinis is the best in Marvao right below the amazing castle, which makes it easy to explore, and across the street from the small bar and ice cream cafe with outdoor tables and a fun parrot. The staff were very friendly and made us feel welcome during our stay. The drive up to the top of Marvao is narrow so you need a smaller car, but once you arrive there is free parking nearby. The Family Room is actually two separate bedrooms with two bathrooms connected by a hallway. Great breakfast was included in the morning.

The rooms were delightful, the breakfast is delicious with many local treats offered. We were delighted to enjoy the chestnut festival while we were there with music and dancing right below our window. If you stay during the festival, you will have a tricky time with parking and baggage transfer, be ready to carry up an down cobblestoned hills.

Nothing.

Absolutely incredible and magical stay at Dom Dinis Marvao. I don't have enough good things to say, but our stay here was our favorite during our trip to Portugal. Absolutely gorgeous views from our room, wonderful and kind staff, superbly clean, and a delicious breakfast. It was hard to leave and we would return one hundred times over.
