+ An isolated haven of quietude from the busy outside world + Rooms are large, food is great, and it's all very affordable! + The exterior onsen (male) has a nice view + Staff is helpful and will come and pick you up at the nearest train station if informed in advance (Akakuraonsen station)

- Isolated means hard to get there if you're coming by car! There are very few trains per day on the Rikuuto Line, and if you don't ask the staff to come and get you by car you have a good hour by foot to get to the hotel. - Isolated also means not a lot to see / visit / eat around, but that's to be expected - just enjoy your rest at the Ryokan - A bit of visible wear and tear in the facilities (a rare hole in the room's wallpaper, rust on some of the onsen's mirrors)

On a low season in this sleepy town, staff were hospitable and helpful, especially on meal times noting my likes or dislikes. The lady owner (3rd gen) Kaoru San was superb making this a comfy stay, hands on to the core with pick up and sending me back to the station. Facilities were clean and homely. Nice

Nothing to pick on.

The outside Onsen was spectacular and so peaceful. The staff members were unbelievably friendly and their English was one of the best I’ve seen here in Japan. I would love to come again soon!

Very nice onzen, with another private one which can be booked on site. Super nice dinner and breakfast, English speaking staff was super helpful and friendly.

A bit dated, some facilities need upgrading such as the in room gas-heater. No ensuite shower

The onsen. It is not a popular area, but with a tranquil river view at the outdoor onsen. And the food is excellent.
