This was a real desert island experience, waking up in the morning with the gentle sound of waves lapping against the beach 20 metres away, completely tranquil and relaxing break. If you are expecting air conditioning, a pristine made up bed every day and all the comforts of home then this isn’t the place for you. If however you were envious of Robinson Crusoe then this is the place for you. We loved every minute of it, the British owners are amazing and the staff are very accommodating, we snorkelled every day and saw different tropical marine life on every trip, we found Nemo several times over and discovered a place that we are going to visit many times in the future.

Having to leave after 2 amazing weeks.

Kookoo’s Nest came highly recommended by a friend and it did not disappoint. I needed a few days of peace and solitude and this was perfect. My room was clean and comfortable and right out of Swiss Family Robinson. The bathroom was clean and well equipped; great water pressure but no hot water, although it wasn’t necessary. I spent a good bit of time relaxing in the hammock. The food was excellent; lots of vegetarian options for me. The beer was COLD and on the honor system; write your name in the board and help yourself. The staff was friendly and helpful. I requested a kayak early in the morning and they accommodated me immediately; clear waters and a beautiful area to kayak btw. The beach is a treasure trove of beauty - shells, coral, tiny crabs, giant volcanic boulders, amazing scenery. And friendly dogs and cats, several from Dumaguete Animal Sanctuary, provided me with some critter love therapy. I had been warned of “all the stairs” but they were truly not an issue even at my old age; they weren’t terribly steep and had plenty of landings so they were not a struggle. I took a Ceres bus to the road that cuts off to Kookoo’s Nest, then caught a habel habel motorbike the rest of the way. It was easy as well as a fun adventure. My only regret is that I couldn’t stay longer. I will be back.

Loved everything

Our room was great! We would have almost slept with our heads on the beach with the terrace open if the rain/wind hadn't disturbed us every morning. Thanks for the hospitality! The owners helped us a lot with our onward journey. Even when we came back because we had an emergency, everyone was very helpful. Snorkeling was great - unfortunately only at high tide. Low tide is a bit annoying, but you sit on the beach and eat/drink your way through the menu :-) We can recommend a trip to the lake and waterfall. Unfortunately, we couldn't find any other beaches worth mentioning nearby. Probably a day trip to Apo Island would be OK - not too far from Kookoos Nest. Our offseason conclusion: Rooms/huts perfect, food perfect, beach/snorkeling perfect (if weather/water is right), people/stuff friendly!

Boat noise in the morning (5am) - some days, not always

The Kookoo's Nest ticked all the boxes for what we were looking for..... dream location with a secluded beach, comfortable lodge right by the beach and a wonderful menu cooked to perfection. What more could you ask for. The owners Nikki and James have created an oasis that is often fully booked therefore I would highly advise booking well in advance. WiFi in our lodge was good. Free water dispenser available all day. Our lodge was right on the beach which I would highly recommend as it saves you climbing up and down the stairs (although understand the views are better from on high). The whole place has a rustic vibe in a very good way. There are many activities available to suit everyone. The restaurant alone, which is open all day is well worth visiting, as the food is excellent and very reasonably priced. We had only booked two nights but could easily have stayed for a week but unfortunately it was all booked out. (Not surprising). I would have no hesitation in recommending Kookoo's Nest to family and friends alike.

Kookoo's Nest is at the bottom of the Antulang peninsula at the bottom of Negros. It feels and is a way away from anywhere. The rooms situated discretely down a limestone cliff are made of bamboo and nippa and blend in beautifully with the trees. So well in fact that it felt like my own spacious tree house, with stunning views across the Sulu Sea. It was magical, the food was unbelievably good and I was made to feel instantly at home by Jamie and Nikki who own the Nest. It was a relaxed and wonderful escape from my normal city life.

The wifi at the eco lodge wasn't working too well when I stayed, although I enjoyed being out of touch. Jamie had fixed it by the time I left.

The cottage view was beautiful. The cottage itself was very well maintained and very clean upon arrival. The resort location was easy to find. The resort facilities were clean and well maintained. The on-site restaurant was clean, well maintained and offered excellent food for reasonable prices.

The only negative is the price. It's a bit on the high side. However, this is the only negative remark that I can provide and it will not prevent me from visiting again.

It's a wonderful little resort in the extreme south of Negros. Just by its remote location it stands out from the rest. The owners made big investments to make this place real nice. The villas above the beach are just superb! The food of the restaurant it excellent and the communal dinners at the long table are great! There is a lot to like about this place and it's the most paradise like resort we stayed at during our Philippines trip!

It's not the fault of the resort or the owners, but there is an overfishing problem in the south of Negros. The fishing fleet is harboured just around the corner and there is lots of fishing activities directly in front of the resort, which can be quite disturbing! Sometimes the fishing vessels leave in the middle of the night and wake you up by their loud engines. Also spearfishers frequently come during the night and kill what's not been caught during the day.

The location is great. However, the room was not really clean, it's dusty, not to mention the lizard poops. I am allergic to dust so it's hard. The staff was not so friendly. The loud noise of the fishing boat engines disturbed the supposed peaceful sleep at night. The food is good. However there was a time when they served uncooked Chicken adobo and it was disgusting after the recook. I will probably go back I hope they'll improve especially the cleaning.

The dusty room. Dirty hammock.
