The wooden building is very nice, so are the rooms - there is attention to detail everywhere. Breakfast is superb, hotel staff is friendly and happy to assist. Hotel offered the quiet and relaxing stay we were looking for.

What I had missed when booking is the location from downtown, which is 1.3-1.4 km - a normal walking distance, but may not suite everyone. Also, the manor and it's lovely front yard is located between apartment buildings and garage buildings - obviously the original building was there before the Soviet era developments, but still it felt a bit odd.

Staff was very attentive and always ready to make our stay enjoyable and worry-free. Beginning with the receptionist who cheerfully greeted us upon entering and escorted us through the hotel to familiarize us with the hotel features and amenities and then led us to our room. A second receptionist warmly translated my parking citation (expensive 40€ lesson in parking sign interpretation) so that I could grudgingly but quickly pay the penalty online with a wire transfer from my US bank. The room was fantastic, large, well appointed, comfortable sofa, comfortable bed, coffee and tea, and well laid out bathroom. Loved it. The breakfast featured scrambled eggs, breakfast meats, various breads and pastries, fresh vegetables, cheeses, porridge, coffee and a wide choice of teas. Breakfast room staff was quickly clearing tables and keeping the buffet well stocked.

I hate to say anything adverse about this place but in fairness to fellow travelers, the hotel is a little tricky to find the first time. Secondly, climbing stairs with even limited luggage was somewhat challenging for this couple of "pensioners".

The villa is impressive - exterior, interior and design is very nicely done in vintage style. The personell was very professional and the breakfast was good. The parking was spacious and the wifi was working well. We were satisfied with the stay here.

Very minor comments. As the villa is very nicely renovated, I can understand the relatively higher price, however it did seem a little bit overpriced. Every public place has fantastic interior design, however the room seemed a bit missing its charm. And the location is extremely weird, as it is an old-fashioned villa and extremely nice example of the historic style, the surroundings are soviet style apartment buildings which really clashes with the style of the villa. But not much to do about it.

Beautiful old building with an amazing interior & lots of antique furniture. We enjoyed the feeling of stepping back in time! Comfortable, cosy room overlooking greenery - trees & a football pitch. Really lovely lady on reception who later on saw us walking into Kuldiga town & kindly gave us a lift! Others have commented on its position, but we didn’t mind that it was a bit out of town & in a residential/commercial area. It only took about 20 minutes pleasant walk back from Kuldiga - but it was a gorgeous summer evening, so maybe not so good in colder or wetter weather….you’d have to drive in to the town to eat. (They had a small restaurant area, but apparently it was only used for groups.)

Only downside was the cost of breakfast at €14 per person. We felt that was overly expensive (even for U.K. hotels!) & it seemed out of proportion to the room rate.

The historic building is lovely and the staff very welcoming and friendly. Super clean and comfortable. Convenient parking.

Unfortunately, the hotel is located between Soviet apartment buildings, a car repair shop, and what looked to be a sports field. There didn't appear to be any access to the lovely river just across the field. TV channels mostly in German.

Nice and welcoming staff, pretty rooms, place is well cared of. Quiet location, a stadium nearby for the morning run. Pets are welcome and get friendly attitude. Building is very beautiful, a renovated mansion.

Remote and some ugly Soviet buildings nearby. Selection of vegetables at breakfast might be better (did not have tomatoes) and more variety of eggs.

Everything was as described. Quite spacious. Nice old building. Good price and quality ratio.

Very warm at night. Windows are old and you either keep them fully open or closed, no in between. To accomodate 4 member family, one of us had to stay in separate room. Location is far from Kuldiga centrum, no option going for a walk without a car.

A beautiful old building surrounded by Soviet architecture, interesting combo. A bit out of the town, but a walkable distance anyway. Some cool soviet architecture on the way to the town, and the great local brewery is also nearby, I recommend to visit. Loved the wide window sill you can sit on in my room, and the huge balcony in the other room we had. Comfy beds and very clean rooms. Good breakfast, although a bit pricey.

No place to put your shower gel / shampoo in the shower. Bed sheet was too small and came off every night. No fridge in the room.

The variety of breakfast was ok for such small hotel. Rooms were renovated and furnitured according to the old building charm, but were nevertheless up to todays standards.

The breakfast was ok, but the gas lamps for keeping the food warm made the air in the breakfast room unpleasantly sticky and warm in a hot summer morning. Perhaps some modern kitchen applience without an open fire would be more appropriate.

We stayed at Virkas Manor for two nights, and we totally loved this place! :) The building is very beautiful from outside and equally wonderful from inside, it has a very nice and romantic vibe. We absolutely loved the antique secretary that we could open and use for some computer work. Everything was exceptionally clean. The staff was very welcoming and nice. We would definitely stay here again, and suggest this place for others too! :)

Rooms don't have very good sound isolation, so if you have noisy neighbors you might hear them. However, this is a very typical problem for historical buildings, so we were not surprised.
