We decided to stay at the old Victorian Klaarstroom Hotel (1874) based on the good vibes we experienced having lunch there about nine months earlier. The hamlet of Klaarstroom by its nature is a quiet place, somewhat off the beaten track, en route between Prince Albert and De Rust. The staff is gracious, attentive, and welcoming. The breakfast cooked to order was excellent, as was dinner. The bar is made from the hardware and boards of an old trek wagon. The entire place is of well-preserved, tidy, and attentively cultivated old Karoo elegance and ambiance. We would definitely stay there again.

My only mildly negative recollection is that it took the hot water of the shower a while to come up, which is not at all unusual in our experience of older hotels.

Our overnight stay was exceptional! The attention to detail and top-notch service is clearly evident at his hotel – a typical old-world style – don’t expect modern –we enjoyed the yesteryear feeling with comfort and top notch service. The breakfast was a standout feature, offering freshly prepared Karoo boerewors, eggs cooked to perfection, and homemade bread (amongst others). Dinner was equally impressive, showcasing authentic Karoo fare. The bobotie was traditional, the lamb chops were tender and flavourful, and the steaks (looked delicious from others that ordered them). Portion sizes were generous, and every meal was served with a smile and a touch of love. The rooms were comfortable, clean, and thoughtfully appointed, making our stay relaxing and enjoyable. A special mention must go to Elsabe, the super host who made us feel truly at home. Her impeccable hospitality and willingness to go the extra mile added to our wonderful experience. The lovely pool was a delightful retreat—a perfect spot to cool off and unwind. We can't wait to return!

The possibility of having an Aircon in the room - as an added luxury

We loved the beautiful, peaceful setting in a hotel that has the charm of yesteryear. Elsabe was so welcoming and accommodating, ensuring we were comfortable and happy. We had a tasteful lamb curry for dinner and a delicious breakfast which included "mealie meal pap", what a treat! The bedroom had an electric blanket, lovely bathroom products and cosy gowns. If you enjoy tranquility and true country hospitality, this is the place to visit.

The bathroom door was a sliding door which didn't close entirely, so a lack of privacy when using the bathroom.... Otherwise we were very happy.

Exceptional value for money and highly recommended. The quaint and well-kept hotel exceeded our expectations and we would definitely return. Our room was spacious and the bathroom was equiped with large fluffy towels, luxurious bathproducts and a decadent bathrobe. The Fat Fig restaurant offered a good selection for dinner and the breakfast hit the right spot with wonderful home made bread. Elsabe is a gracious and welcoming host and an asset to this establishment. Well worth taking the turn-off to Klaarstroom and discovering this hidden gem.

There was nothing to dislike.

The breakfast was lovely, the dinner served in the restaurant was very tasty, the staff were friendly and the entire experience was very pleasant! It is so well situated to break up a long road trip and the history of the area as relayed to us by the hotel manager Elsabe, was truly interesting. Yolandie assisted us with much needed refreshing beverages upon arrival, it was a great little place to rest and recharge.

There was nothing we did not like.

For the price, the Klaarstroom Hotel was really good. Very friendly staff, really good value for money, good food, good breakfast. Some details are surprisingly luxurious (complimentary gowns and coffee).

A bucket of paint to touch up the walls and some TLC to improve the look of the passageway to the rooms would be well invested money. Wifi is not good, but that might have been a result of the power outage in the area during our stay.

Situated right on the quiet main street of the tiny village of Klaarstroom the hotel is charming. Meals on the terrace overlooking the mountains in the distance was a treat. At check in we received personal attention. Being the only guests, they were expecting us and we were upgraded to a room with aircon - much appreciated as it was so hot.

It was fun to stop over at this little hotel which has lots of potential. Sadly though its short of soul, with the delightful old fuel pumps that once were a feature in front, now having been removed, being an indication of this.

The manager was very understanding. Due to car problems we could not take up the booking on the booked night. I informed them and they said we could come when we are on the road again. We took it up the following night, but came late. The manager waited for us, prepared a late dinner for us and was extremely friendly. It is a lovely old hotel, but very neat and clean in beautiful surroundings. An excellent breakfast was served. I would like to go back there for a longer period. Beautiful swimming pool and friendly personnel. Beautiful bedroom and lovely clean bathroom.

Nothing.

I love small platteland town old world homely comfy and clean! This was all of that and more. Not glitz and glam… just genuine and earthy and made more so by ABOVE AND BEYOND hospitality!! Thank you Elsabe!! Your service… your warmth… the warm fire… and your undivided and sensitive attention so much appreciated!!🙏

Nothing to not like.

As we arrived on a extremely cold winters evening, the staff was waiting on us, ready to get us settled in. The effort they went to, just to make sure we are warm and comfortable was over and above. The beds were warm and comfortable. The room beautifully decorated. Lovely spacious bathroom... excellent breakfast on a warm 'stoep' with full sun shining in on us... dinner time... wow wow wow I can really recommend the lamb curry!!!
