The partition of the double queen bed room was a delight. I've never seen a configuration like that where the 2 beds were in opposing corners instead of alongside, and it made it seem more private and spacious! I also appreciated the hospitality of the owner/property manager who drove to the inn after office hours when I reported the cable TV was not working. Turns out some prior guest had unplugged the source for gaming or whatnot, and this was an above and beyond gesture. So grateful!
We can hear the noisy neighbors next to us in the morning, and you can feel the floor vibrate as people walked outside. Realized after we'd checked out and was loading the car, that the outside window was not fully closed - there was a small partition, and I didn't think to check that when coming into the room during night time. That is probably why it was so easy to hear the neighbors.

Check in was super straightforward and easy, just said I booked online (gave it a few minutes to get in their system, she asked my name, gave me the key, and I was good to go. I loved that I could park right in front of my room and didn’t have to haul my stuff very far. The room was comfortable and clean, and I enjoyed both the retro touches of the microwave and fridge, and the new bathroom counter and sink. Oh and I loved the thick fluffy towels and weren’t white for a change, but a pleasant light brown.
Just a couple more amenities like two teabags instead of one, a cup in the bathroom (I just used one of the coffee cups), things like that. And the Wi-Fi sometimes worked and sometimes didn’t. But for the price it had what I needed.

The layout of room 3 was great, looks very similar to the pictures online. The space is roomy for 2 adults plus several bags (and a medium dog crate) and was very efficient for what we needed. The bed and mattress were comfy so we had good sleep the 3 nights we stayed. The linen and towels felt very nice and clean. Direct TV was a nice option that we used each night after a long day of activities at the park and WiFi worked very fast. They have a couple tables and enough chairs we put to good use. The heater worked great for the space especially since it got pretty chilly at night and morning. It’s a convenient and (seemed) safe location especially if you want to walk to basic necessities and food close by and heading to Death Valley. The bathroom and bathtub shower were great and worked real well for us. Also they have a nice microwave, strong spacious mini fridge and freezer that was super helpful to us having food to store and consume. Most things I asked were answered promptly and the host was helpful.
I only suggest they restock the toiletries before guests arrive, install a few hooks for clothes on the walls, and weatherize the front door to avoid losing heat in the winter and cool air in the summer.

The room was really spacious. We had 3 very comfortable queen-size beds. It was really nice to sleep in a room where the windows could be opened so we could enjoy the fresh evening air. It was in May, the nights were cool. We really enjoyed standing in front of our room and petting to donkeys that came to visit! Great internet connection (important for teenagers!). This hotel was actually my kid's favorite (big beds, cute donkeys, fast internet). We slept really well there.
The place looks like it hasn't been udated in a long time. (It's charming though)

The staff was incredibly kind, polite, and a joy to chat with. It's a great spot, one of the first places you see when you drive into town and the views of the sky are such a delight.
The room did smell a bit when we first stepped in. It did seem to go away after leaving a window open for a few hours. The water in the sink also was pretty much always cold, unless the shower was also ran at hot at the same time, so I just dealt with cold hands in the middle of the night.

I very like small town small motels. This motel was in very good location with very good view and comfort to park car just to door. And staff was patiently waiting my late arrival and really happy to complete this task. After this we make small walk around the town and find nice shopping, bars and restaurants. And of course epic gas station.
AC plug for microwave was not great. And was not EU AC sockets. Was not horizontal sockets and my heavy adapter was falling out the wall.

The El Portal Motel in Beatty is a great place to stay when visiting nearby Death Valley National Park, the eastern entrance only being about 10 miles away. Quite a few travelers appear to make this their base either going to or coming from Death Valley. The El Portal is your old school mom and pop motel likely dating back to the 1960s or early 1970s. It's a relatively small establishment having maybe 20 - 25 rooms. My wife and I stayed here for one night in August 2023 while on vacation and on our way to visit Death Valley National Park the next day. It's a very well-kept motel. It has a swimming pool in the back and an awesome old-style motel sign out front that is lit up after dark. Great for some excellent photos. The experience here harkens back to the classic days of road travel across the desert back in the 50s, 60s and 70s. The rooms are retro, but spacious and well kept. The facilities (shower, sink, toilet) were all in good shape and functioned well. The air conditioner kept the room nice and cool all night long. Check-in was easy and friendly. The price was also reasonable for this little town being the gateway to Death Valley. Oh, and there is a nice little motel kitty named Mittens you'll likely meet when either checking in at the front office or somewhere around the property during your stay. She is really sweet and enjoys being petted. Beatty also features a number of stray burros that roam the streets, some of which are friendly. For eats, Beatty has a Subway, Denny's and a couple of other local dining establishments. All in all, a good stopover through the barren desert of southeast Nevada. Nothing fancy - just good, simple and clean accommodations that won't break the bank. We would certainly stay here again should we find ourselves in this area in the future.

Perfect stay, everything (heaters, water, space in room, etc) in room worked just right, even the wifi worked great, me and my daughter watched separate Netflix shows at same time, no issues! If you are visiting Death Valley, perfect place to stay.
One bulb was not working, they should fix edges of some desk, wood splinters coming out, very sharp. Must have cash, the local cafes do not take credit cards, I had to run around looking for ATMs for cash.

This hotel was picked because of its location near Death Valley NP. It worked out extremely well for us visiting Death Valley. This is an old school motel that is well maintained. We really enjoyed Beatty and were happy with the places we dined at although there isn't much to choose from.
The hotel walls are thin. We could hear people speaking through the walls not clearly enough to make out the conversation, but loud enough that it would wake you up if they were talking at 5 am.

Spacious room with 2 queen beds. Fridge with separate freezer meant drinks could be super cold. Helpful suggestion for a breakfast venue from check-in staff. Good supply of soft towels. Desk space & separate table for putting our bits & pieces Good stop over after Death Valley exploring. Very quiet venue.
Poor lighting in the room & one of the bed lights didn’t work. It was fine for an overnighter.
