The location was great. Right by Canyon de Chelly. Bed was comfy. Lady at desk was kind.

The property is old and though the room was clean and comfy, the outdoor property is neglected. So many weeds and overgrown bushes and our doorstep hadn’t even been swept. We stayed at 8 properties on our trip, all about the same price and ratings. All had breakfast included except Thunderbird. They charged $8 for an omelette with no meat and not even a piece of toast to accompany it $8 for two pancakes. Not even a complimentary cup of coffee. That would have been $4. In the room, a big card said, “Here is our complimentary bottle of water” but there wasn’t any bottle there.

Great place to see Canyon De Chelly from. They have 3 tours a day that leave from the lobby. There is an onsite cafeteria with really good food and smiling friendly, helpful staff. Laundry facilities available. The ambiance is nice and it represents the old trading post that it still is. You can tell the Dine take pride in all they do.

The view from the hotel itself is a let down BUT you are right there where you need to be to see some great views. Carpet.in room....ewwww. It did not present dirty I just dislike it. Oh and it smelled like carpet Fresh when I opened the door (eye roll) but it dissipated soon enough.

Hint, their time clock is not the same as Arizona time. Google told me wrong and almost caused me to miss my tour. A welcome respite with very friendly, supportive staff. Very helpful and kind. The room was exceptionally clean and well appointed. The Keurig pods included hot chocolate, so smart. They also provided non-dairy creamer instead of the crappy packets. The bed was very comfortable. Their room was quiet. It was cold and the furnace was quiet and non-irritating. It's great to see a place where people take pride. The cafeteria was tasty. Had hours that accommodated tourist needs. The tour through the canyon is enough to be missed experience.

Having to stay at other places which aren't as nice and friendly.

We prefer to stay at the Thunderbird Lodge when we come to Canyon de Chelly. The price is better and the environment is superior to the chain hotels in town. Very pleasant, responsive staff. Quiet. If your room faces the grassy area, it is a green, parklike setting. Each room has two chairs and a small table outside, which was a good place to drink coffee in the morning. Pod coffee maker in room. A very good place for travelers with a dog, too. Easy to walk the dog and only $25 extra..

The restaurant is not a favorite. But there are some interesting educational displays.

We loved everything about the Thunderbird Lodge. I can't imagine staying anywhere else if you go to Canyon de Chelly. It's like a resort from earlier times with all the charm and atmosphere that is so hard to find nowadays. Very well priced. Our room was very comfortable and well-equipped with some lovely vintage furnishings. Excellent trading post shop filled with good quality and good prices. Excellent wifi. Dining in the cafeteria was good - with caring and helpful staff. Located a few hundred yards from the entrance to the canyon. Owned and operated by the Navajo tribe. We were delighted by the place and sad to leave. Sadly we could not take a tour of the canyon because we travel with our dog - not permitted. Spent a long afternoon driving the south rim stopping at all the overlooks - WOW - do not miss this - take your time and walk out on the paths - hard to put into words the grandeur and beauty of the canyon from above.

Wish we could have stayed longer

The Thunderbird Lodge is an iconic inn just a short distance from Canyon de Chelly. It is peaceful. The staff are all extremely polite and helpful. The food at the cafeteria is ample. And the trading post offers genuine Navajo made items at reasonable prices. The room we stayed in was along the back of the inn which means that it was actually set into the cliff making it cool and quiet. We were traveling with dogs and there were plenty of places to walk them. If you're traveling to Canyon de Chelly, this is the place to stay!

I can't think of a single negative.

The staff were very friendly. This is close to Canyon de Chelly. We booked a tour of the canyon at the lodge, which was very convenient. The lodge has a cafeteria on site. We had 2 units next to each other. 1 unit had an upgraded, quiet heater. The other had an old heater that was noisy and couldn't be adjusted. We heated the room before sleep and turned the heater off during the night. The lodge is old but comfortable and conveniently located.

The food was very inexpensive and convenient, but mediocre The oatmeal for breakfast was good. The canyon tour vehicle was a rough ride in an open-air vehicle, which was cold with temps in the 50s, but the tour was inexpensive. There is a gift shop on site where we bought sock hats for the cold weather. Not a good ride for a bad back. The canyon floor is rugged terrain.

The room was adequate but the location was perfect for visiting Canyon de Chelly National Monument. The tours departed from here (from what we could see) and the restaurant was very reasonable in terms of range and prices. The gift shop was very well stocked. What really shone was the service. In particular there was a young lady at the front desk when we checked in on the 23rd September, and she was not only friendly but extremely professional. Their computers were down but she checked us in and told us what time our rooms would be available. She also ran through all the services available which I was very impressed with. Overall all the staff there were really friendly. The rooms were comfortable and had everything that we needed.

The accommodation is old, but it has been well maintained. My only wish might be that they had better toiletries but I am really nitpicking here.

there seem to be a disconnect between booking.com. The property which is actually part of the park service and a third-party billing agent. every day I got an email that said when my arrival time was till the day before I arrived and all of a sudden I needed to deal with the third-party to actually build a credit card and then they wanted to scan my drivers license which seems so shady I just about canceled the reservation.

Location is amazing in that it is safe, calm, quiet, peaceful and rich in nature. The environment is very therapeutic and soothing. Walking around it is clear to see the historical era of the south west, the 20th century, 19th century and centuries from the past of the land and the people. I appreciated the very clean room especially the bedding and premium linens and comfortable bed. The room had updated appliances, fridge, microwave, tv, and most importantly the instant coffee maker with green tree coffee. Customer service was top notch best in class.
