This establishment is the best-kept secret in the Colesberg area. I hope it grows and becomes booked all year round, even if I wish no one else discovers it! The atmosphere, peace, and calm in the harsh natural environment are heavenly. To go in Autumn is just perfect as the trees are showcasing all their colours and beauty. The birds singing in the trees and the green stretches of grass collapsing into natural water pools and natural Karoo grassland, set off against the Karoo Koppies, is medicine for the soul. Fresh morning air blends with the smell of freshly ground coffee and the Horses being set through their paces, all forming a nurturing blanket around your soul. - Sonja-Liezel Theron

There is still a lot to be done in the rooms to get up to code with European electrical outlets next to the beds. The open bathroom style is romantic but not practical, especially in the cold. There are four rooms that do not form part of the house, which are set up perfectly. Only recently, Gary Player's home on the property was incorporated to rent out all the rooms. It is hard to convert these rooms up to code for the needs of travellers, but the staff are all brilliant and eager to please and help out where the practical needs are not yet met. - Dawie Theron

Big Sky Ranch is a magnificent stud farm near Colesberg in the Karoo. We stayed there before on our way to the Western Cape. The dinner and breakfast served to us was very well prepared and we enjoyed sitting on the stoep of the farmhouse looking out over the dam and perfectly manicured lawns, enjoying a glass of chilled white wine after a very long day on the road.

Previously we stayed in one of the renovated stable rooms. That room was big and luxuriously furnished. This time we stayed in a cheaper loft room. Unfortunately, the aircon was not functioning properly and we had a sweaty sleepless night, The next morning my husband tried the Nespresso machine but that was also out of order, and we had to make do with some instant coffee

We couldn’t have chosen a better place to kick off our honeymoon than Big Sky Ranch! From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by the warmth and attentiveness of the staff—they truly went above and beyond to make us feel special. It honestly felt less like a hotel stay and more like being welcomed by long-lost, fabulously wealthy family members. Every detail was thoughtfully taken care of, and we were completely spoiled from start to finish. The atmosphere, the service, the overall experience—no notes, it was absolutely perfect. Thank you, Big Sky Ranch, for setting the tone for a magical honeymoon. We’ll treasure our time with you forever!

This was our second stay at Big Sky Ranch during our holiday break, and once again, it was exceptional! The beautifully appointed rooms, excellent amenities, and lush, luxurious bedding made our stay incredibly comfortable and relaxing. A special thanks to Busi, who took such wonderful care of us at breakfast and dinner—she’s an absolute star and always made us feel so welcome. Also a big thank you to Nikhita for the warm check-in and Jerome for the smooth check-out. We absolutely adore the three doggies—such sweet companions throughout our stay. We’ll miss them dearly! Looking forward to returning again soon. Highly recommended!

Our stay at Big Sky was fantastic. Nikhita was exceptionally helpful and greeted us on arrival with cold towels which were great after a long drive. She took us on a tour of the facilities which are stunning and really makes the place a little oasis, with big lounge rooms, great dining area, a massive pond great swimming pool out the front. The food was fantastic with lamb on offer for dinner and a great breakfast in the next morning. The rooms are super comfy and the setting overall is relaxing and really pleasant. Would highly recommend this and even though we only stayed a night we wanted to stay longer and wish we could have

Cannot recommend this place enough! The staff were fantastic - so warm and welcoming and the attention to detail was much appreciated. We arrived with two small children and they provided a cot for our baby and set the table for our toddler with her own child-friendly cutlery and meals. The food was delicious and worth the extra cost! There were many complimentary treats and a well-stocked bar. The pool area and golfing green made this more than just a one-night stay-over guesthouse when passing through but a place we would actually want to come back to for a weekend.

Beautiful renovated farmhouse with a stunning view. The staff were most accommodating and welcoming. We stayed over Easter Sunday and the staff went out of their way to make our day special with lots of Easter treats and an Easter egg hunt for the kids. Food was also excellent. I would recommend staying more than one night so that you can enjoy the beautiful scenery and activities- like the pool, tennis court and putting green. All in all a great find and we definitely intend on returning!

As we left my husband and I both said what a restful night! Everything was so beautiful and clean. Comfy beds and delicious bath tub! We were warmly welcomed by the host Catherine. Dogs everywhere 😍 it was like a dream while travelling with our two small dogs. We were made to feel like home, you are allowed around the entire farm no restrictions..complimentary tea/coffee, cake and scones on arrival. Dinner was lovely and so was breakfast. Honesty bar system is great. Heaters and fires all night long as we traveled mid winter. I will definitely be returning during our next long road trip.

What a beautiful ranch. Great experiencing the tranquility out on the lawn and pool area. Seeing the horses being taken out of the stables in the morning was awesome.

We love dogs, have 2 of our own. Great to know you can take them with. However, not great having so many dogs in the dining area while you eating. Dogs begging for food and being under your feet while you eat, not great.

This is the most amazingly beautiful hotel we have yet to stay in! The hidden jewel of Colesburg!! This was once a home of Gary Player and is now a hotel and racehorse stud farm. You are warmly welcomed by Eddie and Gorgeous the two hotel dogs and your own fur-baby is very welcome. This is amazing considering the extremely high standard of the furnishings, artwork and areas throughout. Jerome followed the dogs with his welcome and was a delightful and very attentive host during our stay. This is a dog friendly hotel for dog friendly people! The room (No 6) was beautifully decorated and had french doors out to the gardens. There is also a swimming pool and a putting green. The honesty bar, snacks and the great food served up by Busi, Madeleine and the other ladies was very well presented and appreciated. The overall staffs attention to detail was amazing, and you will feel very blessed that you make this stop! We did!
