Thought the one-person room that I stayed in was fairly small, the layout was pretty smart to utilize the space. The twin-bedder room that my parents stayed in was very big, and they enjoyed the stay. Onsen was great, preferred the ground level one instead of the 2nd level one since it had an access to the outdoor.

A bit of an inconvenience to have to take the lift down from the hotel room to the lobby, to switch lifts, just to get to breakfast. But that was the only thing I didn't like. Breakfast layout probably could be improved since in the morning there is a congestion. Might be good to make dinner reservations at the hotel during golden week since the restaurants in the vicinity were all fully booked out unfortunately.

The superb location easy walking distance to all major landmarks & distinct heritage sites & excellent breakfasts daily. If not for the eight legged creatures (not harmful, but can irritate the skins) that may hibernate within the tatami in the room, and if not for the initial mistakes of giving us a room too cramp for 4 adults (we had booked 2 japanese styled suite rooms) but ended up giving us a standard room instead. Needed our persistent insistence to change before the front manager relented and gave us a bigger one. Which I find uncalled for. The manager should be more forthright to just get us the right room. Anyway, the stay itself was brilliant. The public hot spring bath is superb. And love the public bath outdoor for guests too.

Wrong & smaller room given four of us during check in. Only after our persistent insistence that the front manager relented and gave us the proper room.

The property’s main asset is their staff. From the moment we stepped in until the bus driver dropped us back at the train station, the staff has been nothing but exceptional. Friendly, warm, accomodating, Japanese customer care at its best. The hotel is much bigger then it looks from outside and it’s got one of the most beautiful interior designs I’ve seen in a long time, very nice vibe inside. The room was a traditional japanese room, very spacious with comfortable futons.

Some details could be taken care of better given the majestic, luxurious vibe the hotel intends to give (there were plenty of areas with dirty floor carpet or seat covers; or splashed sealant around toilet bowls or sinks in various area)

・Comfortable 2 large public baths One is large bath rooms having open-air a bath, another is smaller but having a jet bath. Both gave me a good relax time. ・Delicious dinner and breakfast Especially, the dinner course is so nice. It was cooked with local ingredients, and they were seasoned with dashi. ・24 hours soft drink bar The bar is 24H open. It serves some soft drink and coffee made by a coffee machine.

・Not enough sign for complicated structure The structure is complicated a little bit, so I got lost easily. This Japanese style inn consists of 2 towers, and the new one needs to go through the ground floor to the places where we can eat breakfast or dinner.

This hotel offers nice Japanese style ambience. The rooms were quite spacious with bedroom tatami area and a separate living room with sofas. The bathroom included a Toto toilet. The hotel also included two nice hot spring facilities, one with stone theme and the other with wood theme. Yukatas were offered too. Dinner was a Japanese-style multi course meal. The breakfast offered a selection of Japanese and Western style food items. There were more Japanese items and limited selection of western items. Therefore, breakfast might not be suitable for people who prefer western food over Japanese food. Western food included bread, eggs, sausage, and cereal etc. Japanese food was tasty and included congee, appetizers, fish, and fried food. Staff was courteous and hotel offered free drinks and snacks in a cafe.

The facilities although spacious showed their age. The bathroom area was cramped especially the area around the sink. If you are expecting a new hotel this place isn’t for you. But if you are looking for a place to enjoy hot spring with a nice Japanese ambience then I would definitely recommend it.

We stayed one night at Hatori and I regret it - because it was the best stay we had in our 15 days in Japan :) We should have done more nights here! There is a free shuttle from Kagaonsen Station to the hotel and vice versa (check timings first and plan your route accordingly - lifesaver. We arrived kind of late so were concerned about dinner options, but there were some nice mom-and-pop eateries open in the vicinity and a Lawsons about 5 mins walk away. The breakfast buffet is worth it and delicious, the staff are warm and helpful. Our room came with an ensuite rotenburo and it was lovely starting the day with a private onsen experience; the room was very big for 2 people. The public onsens in the hotel are tattoo-friendly and if you want (and if available) you can walk 5 min to their sister hotel Rurikoh to try their baths too (but check with the staff first)! I am in love with Kagaonsen as a town and a lot of it is thanks to our stay with Hatori. Thank you for the amazing time Team Hatori and hope to see you very soon!

Nothing! Pillows were a bit soft, but there were spare pillows in the room so I just used that :)

The facility we enjoyed the most was their two public baths. It was super clean and because we went during the off-peak season it was very empty. It was so relaxing and I feel very purified. The location was really good - there are shuttle uses that take visitors from the station to the hotel. It’s right in the town centre, and you can walk to local shrines and shops etc. We also randomly tumbled into many amazing local restaurants so beside onsen there are also a lot to explore!

The room is a bit damp but it might just be the room is a bit old? But it is still very comfortable and very big.

Onsen. Dinner and breakfast were superb. My kids didn’t quite like the traditional Japanese kaiseki meal but they like the ala carte menu. Breakfast has a wide selection of Japanese food and some western option like sausages and bread. Private onsen was easy to book and is a good option for family. Room size was great. Kids really love the experienced staying in ryokan style room.

The parking wasn’t really onsite. Makes it slightly difficult on a rainy day. Checkout time is relatively early too. Not many shops nearby within walking distance.

Excellent staff, presentation and attention were to level. Well laid out and tasteful arrangements. Room was large and comfortable. Massage chair was nice. Onsen on 2F was very good, layout and use of columns are unique.

Some lack of attention to detail for what could be a very good property. Many amenities but no toothbrushes in the room. The round window was installed at an angle. Deferred maintenance on the woodwork lacquer. Not a fan of the temperpedic mattress, and placed the floor isn't really a western style bed.

The room was fairly spacious, and the private jacuzzi was a nice touch—though it’s debatable whether it justifies the price. The evening show was entertaining, and both onsens were enjoyable. The kids’ area was charming, and the breakfast was excellent. The small restaurant across the street was great.

In the afternoon, the hotel felt quite empty—there were noticeably more staff than guests, which gave it a slightly eerie, "Shining"-like atmosphere.
