An incredible experience staying in an iconic and quite eerie place, one that understandably divides opinion. But it was incredible looking out from my window and seeing the giant cross towering above us, and wandering around the grounds looking at the pine trees and listening to the monks chanting. Plus you're a short walk from the basilica, which is also an incredible place to visit. The restaurant is a bit expensive, but the buffet breakfast for €8 was great.
The rooms need to have fans in them considering the heat of the summer. I was there during one of Spain's ever more common heatwaves and I couldn't sleep well because it was too hot and there was no air circulation. I had to get up in the night and take a cold shower to cool down.

Spectacular site and good accommodation (if you manage your expectations with the class of hotel). The rooms were clean and simple with ensuite facilities and towels. We were worried we'd struggle without air conditioning but it was fine. Breakfast was adequate. Plenty of space around the building to sit and relax. Beautiful drive up to the hotel.
Check-in was very slow. The restaurant menu seemed expensive and not suitable for veggies so we ate out for dinner. Breakfast started at 9am sharp and it was a bun fight. There was an offering of cheese, ham, boiled eggs, bread, non-veggie yoghurt and some fruit. The pastries went fast.

Location - breathtaking, unique and quiet; it's high on the mountain in the forest, far from civilization. Room - unusual, fun and comfortable; it's an old monk/nun room, but with all modern amenities. Staff - polite and helpful; the hotel is a real monastery, where most of the people are monks, and you can hear them praying and doing their job. Food - authentic and delicious; for 15 euros I got a 3 course meal (2 meals and a dessert) with wine and water, all ingredients were fresh and the food traditional. Overall it's like entering a different world - unforgettable and totally worth it!

I liked everything about this property .. location is worse than wonderful, clean, restaurant is delicious and not expensive, parking is free !! And not far from Madrid ( you need to have a car as there are no transportation between the property and Madrid ) easy access late in the night if you party or stay late at Madrid .. very well organized and a warm reception
Can’t find something to complain about !!!

The setting is truly unique. Imagine waking up, looking out the window & seeing that giant cross in glorious sunshine!! The view from the room was looking over to the cross. Other little things - the shower in the room was excellent & the plug-in heater for warmth was much appreciated.
Price - if you look at other hotels offering a room for a similar price, I think you get more in that room for that similar price. There is no TV in the room & there is no toilet in the room (these are monks' lodgings after all!!)

Beautiful historic building. The staff and monks made me feel so welcome. I wanted to visit as I am fascinated by the architecture, it was not a religious visit but there was no pressure there I could not have been more warmly received. I even heard wolves in the forest at night. Amazing experience want to return
It is a little hard to acres via public transport (there is a bus I found out but it's not on Google...phone the property

The room was as minimal as I expected it to be in a monastery. The food was simple but great. The (local) wine was even excellent. The surrounding landscape is beautiful and great for hiking (if you ignore the walls everywhere).
The only way to enter the area is through a gate 6 km away located just before a motorway (with a bus stop at least). Kind of breaks the pilgrim spirit in my opinion :) English is a bit difficult but it works.

Convenient to have breakfast (9am-10am, €7.50) and dinner (8:30pm-..., €15) onsite. The huge holy cross surrounded by natural elements right outside your window, peaceful place to relax your mind. The corridor outside the restaurant connect to a chapel.
Challenge to carry heavy luggage on rough pavement especially at night when you arrive, there is not enough light from the parking lot to the building, luckily there is an elevator (you should ask for) in the building.

The building has its own atmosphere. You live in the former cells of the monks. Beautiful views from the window and wonderful surroundings of mountains and forest. Lots of silence around.
The windows are old and leaky, but in the summer it doesn't matter

The location is good, albeit remote. You need a car to explore anything off the vast estate where the hospederia is located
The restaurant food was pretty basic and quite expensive, especially in the evening, breakfast was a good continental style and perfectly good.
