This accommodation is a simple trekking lodge made for exploring the gorgeous area on foot. The views were magical, we were served very delicious, home-made, healthy and nourishing food. Perfect location for all trails and Horton Plains National Park. We liked the Pekoe Trail even more than World's End, very much worth spending more time in this area to explore.

More a piece of information rather than a negative aspect: The accommodation is really very remote and relatively hard to get to, very steep road. Ideally plan for an arrival before dark if coming by car or tuktuk from the railway station.

Warm and welcoming hosts, the guys are the gem of the property. They made us feel at home all the time and were very helpful in catering our needs throughout our stay. We saw plenty of black cheeked lizards in the property which was one of the main targets of our trip. The location is situated in the middle of a tea plantation and has a great view of the mountains.

You need to be a professional and very experienced driver if you’re going to the property by car! The road leading to the hotel is very narrow, steep, rocky, muddy and mostly fog accumulates easily so please go there early - to simplify it, it’s dangerous and very HIGH RISK OF FALLING!

We loved our stay at the Hill Safari. The views were spectacular, the staff made us feel very comfortable and welcome and the room was everything we needed. The food was also delicious and they gave us many new year treats to try. They recommended some great walking routes, talking you through the route with a hand drawn map!

Very minor, but if you plan on arriving by train, please be aware the Ohiya is very small and only has a limited number of TukTuks - especially ones that know how to get to Hill Safari. So be prepared to wait a little while before you can be transported there.

The views, the location, the mountains, the teaplantages, the hiking around the estate, the awesome location. The great service. The friendly staff. The comfortable room with a very comfortable bed. Really, there is not much wrong with this place. It's peaceful and it's quiet. You can easily spend a couple of days or more in this area.

We found the breakfast and dinner of mediocre quility. We travelled for almost 6 weeks in Sri Lanka and had amazing curries almost everyday. We now had the most expensive room we had in Sri Lanka, but we missed vegetables, fruits and a little diversity. I hope they will improve on this to make future stays better.

The location is the best of the worse for those who are doing the Pekoe trail. Stage 11-12. It offers a breathe-taking view of the valley below. The owners gave us such great hospitality. The room was clean it gave us a much needed respite from a long day of hiking. If you are taking the pekoe trail, there is a shortcut to the location which is slightly off track. It’s short but intense but could save you 30mins to an hour. I suggest that you take it. Dinner and breakfast was sooooo good. Really nice after a long day of hiking

Not much. My stay was great.

We were walking the Pekoe Train and Hill Safari is the most perfect resting spot along the way. It only involves a short walk from the actual trail. We loved the isolation and beauty of the setting. Our room had wonderful views across the valley and we were surrounded by a well nurtured tea estate and a beautiful garden. The manager and his team could not have looked after us better. We were given the most excellent home cooked meal, it was quite delicious. We were made to feel so welcome and well cared for. We would highly recommend Hill Safari for walkers, or even those with transport, who just want to relax in a beautifully secluded spot.

We had a wonderful two-day stay at Hill Safari in Ohiya. The view from the balcony was incredible, and I could have spent all day there. However, many hiking trails start from the hotel, like the Devil's Staircase, which shouldn't be missed. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful with planning our treks. The food at the restaurant was very good, but you need to inform them in advance if you plan to dine in. Nights are quite chilly for Sri Lanka, and while there’s no heating, the blanket provided was sufficient. It's wise to bring something warm. The hotel is very close to Horton Plains, making it a great base for the park, though I personally preferred all the trails near the hotel.

Perfect view over the hill country of Sri Lanka. The accomodation was in a tea plantation. The owner and the employers were very helpful, they arranged the transportation and gave us a lot of helpful tips. All in all a very lovely stay, perfect for the hike in the Horton Plains. The food which was served was delicious

The small hotel were under construction, so we got a bigger room (with 3 beds) - the room had not the described terrace, which we missed a bit. Also it was a bit uncomfortable that the toilet and the sink were in two seperate rooms. The road to the hotel was an adventure, so for the Tuk Tuk ride you need to have an experienced driver and strong nerves :-) The room in which we stayed was a bit shabby - but we think that all rooms will be renovated during the next months.

The location of Hill Safari is utterly stunning. Remote, nestled away in the hills, surrounded by great walks. Steven and the team make you feel right at home. They are so immensely helpful, working out walking routes, always making sure you’re well fed with the most delicious food and that all your needs are catered for. We absolutely loved our 4 days there and we were sad to leave. Strongly recommend staying here!

The rooms could do with a bit of a refresh; new lick of paint, update amenities etc but everything worked well. More generally, we would have loved to learn more about the tea plantation itself but there wasn’t an opportunity to do so.

My family and I had a truly happy and memorable time staying at Hill Safari. The cosy, lodge-style hotel enjoys a spectacular location, high up in green, lush mountains. Eomal and his team were incredibly helpful and kind, making us feel very welcome. We were treated to great breakfast and dinner - tasty, local food - and Eomal gave us lots of suggestions for walks in the area. He also kindly collected us from the station and drove us up to Horton Plains. There are comfortable places to sit out in the beautifully-tended garden, and we enjoyed the wonderful views, and being so close to nature. It was an unforgettable end to our month in Sri Lanka, and we were very sad to leave!
