I have no words. This is such a great place. I even feel reluctant about sharing this because it is so great and I don‘t want it to be too crowded when I come back (which I will for sure). Where do I start… This beach - unreal. It looks like out of a commercial. There were basically no other visitors when I was there in late december. You cannot swim directly infront of the hotel because of the strong current, but only a few hundred meters further, you will find natural wave pools. At night, you can watch nesting turtles, the stuff will also guide you to them. My room was spacious and clean, I felt very comfortable there. It was not directly in the first row on the beach but instead in the palmgarden with no sea view. At first I was sad about this but soon I realized it had more privacy and it is literally just a few steps from the beach. Depending on the booking situation you will also be able to change rooms. The food was absolutely delicious. A bit more on the pricey side for Sri Lankan standards but since you will get fresh seafood of great quality, I happily paid it. Try the special tuna! The staff was amazing as well. They were so kind and welcoming and made me feel very safe - which is especially important as a female solo traveller. They were extremely accomodating and happily organized transfers for me. On my final day, I was able to check out late without and additional fee. I am already planning in having my honeymoon here, it is heaven on earth!

Sometimes there can be an unpleasant smell from the lagoon and since you are basically in the mangrooves, you will have small animal visitors. However, I feel like this is evident because you are staying in nature - just be aware of this before you book and don‘t go complaining about it when you are there. The staff is very helpful with this and came looking for the spider in my room, so it‘s all good. The beach is very quiet, so if you are looking for bars, shops and surf schools, this is not the place. You will find thos a few km further in Tangalle. You can walk there along the beach.

Located right on very calm Tangalle Beach this was the perfect ending to our travel around Sri Lanka. We found and booked the beach cabanas quite last minute and it was just right. The cabanas are big and spacious and we especially loved the outdoor bed on the terrace which was both private yet felt like you were a part of the outside. Loved loved LOVED staying right on the beach and just relaxing in the hammocks or sunbeds. The staff was so nice and attentive, ready to meet every need we night have. The property was clean and lush with palm trees and mangrove plantation everywhere. The food in the restaurant is very decent as well, although a bit pricy, but that is to be expected on a property like this.

The breakfast was classic Sri Lankan and in my taste a bit too simple.. Otherwise everything was just great - nice stay indeed.

I loved being directly at the Beach with many Hammocks and Free Sunbeds. The restaurant cooked some great food, for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The waiters from the restaurant, or in general, were amazingly friendly and fulfilled every wish. Our cabana was really good. It had an own bathroom with a Big shower, 3 windows, a vent and a cozy bed with a good Moskitos-Net. A few more shelves for our stuff would have been good, but no big problems. We also used the Laundry Service and are very happy with the good Result. We really enjoyed our stay here and can highly recommend it to anyone who wants to have an stress free, sunny holiday!

What a great spot to relax for a while in the middle of our Sri Lanka trip (Feb 25)! The Cabana was excellent and right on the beautiful beach. The staff were great and the food on offer - including a breakfast buffet of fruits and (highly recommended) Sri Lankan egg hoppers and curries - was fab with fresh fish options every evening. Take a (red light!) torch and walk about 15 mins along the beach (east) and you may (we did) see turtles coming ashore to dig nests and lay eggs and we even saw one hatchling making a dash for the ocean (safely!). There are "organised" places to see this - I think nests are moved after the mother has left - but we saw 2 adults and a baby just on the open beach.

Be aware that - as with most of this coast - the sea is usually not safe for swimming - but there is a small natural sheltered area to bathe in. Not massive but lovely to cool off in. The property also has an arrangement to use the pool at a neighbouring hotel - though we didn't try that.

Absolutely LOVED our stay at Shiva’s, it is the perfect place for a little unwinding and relaxation. Right on the beach with plentiful family run restaurants in the area, the location is perfect. Rooms were great, with a lovely balcony with a day bed - perfect for a morning coffee or evening read.

Nothing negative to say, just a small suggestion of water in the rooms and/or with breakfast in the morning. We also had a small army of ants in our room on arrival, but was not an issue as we had our own bug spray so were gone in seconds. Maybe this could be done prior to guest arrival to ensure no issues.

The location is unbeatable - the cabanas are directly next to the most gorgeous beach with very few people around. Swimming is dangerous in front of the property, but there is a lovely and safe natural pool a short walk along the beach. We ate at the restaurant for lunch and dinner - they have a wide range of good food and drinks. Very friendly and helpful staff!

Our cabana was quite small (half a meter wider than the bed) and basic but clean and comfortable. No air con but we managed with the fan. The bathroom was nice and spacious but the floor got very slippery because of the open shower.

The people were incredible! Smiling, ready to help with what we needed! Relaxing environment, hammocks and sun beds everywhere, very good food and juices! They gave us red light torches to go at night and see the turtles laying their eggs in the sand. We totally relaxed when there thanks to the amazing location and especially the people! From the person that welcomed us to the people working at the restaurant and cleaning the rooms, each and every one made our stay unforgettable!

The room in the back is too basic for such a price! Too expensive for a hut!

A perfect place for a relaxing few days on an almost deserted picture perfect beach. The staff are very friendly and always greeted us with a warm welcome. The Cabana’s are basic with a comfortable outdoor lounging area, just steps away from the beach where they have chairs and loungers to relax on.

There was nothing with did not like about our stay. We would suggest the menu in the restaurant features more traditional Sri Lankan dishes - we had the Sri Lankan curry one night which was delicious! Although this had to be pre-ordered the day before.

The cabana was perfect for what we wanted, private, clean and very comfortable. It was also nice to be slightly back from the beach in a shady glade of trees. It is also lovely to see trees from the mangroves here. When we asked about being able to get fresh coconuts which were not on the menu the manager organized it for us. He also agreed to help us to get authentic Sri Lankan food as the menu had very little if that on it. They are also super helpful about planing day trips and knowledgeable about travel around the whole island.

What made my stay even more special was the staff. The team was incredibly attentive, always making sure I felt comfortable and cared for. Their genuine interest in guests and the friendly, heartfelt conversations made me feel welcome and at home. If you're looking for a quiet getaway surrounded by natural beauty and great people, Shiva's Beach Cabanas is the place to be. Highly recommended!

The only negative aspect to mention is that it's not recommended to swim in the ocean right in front of the hotel due to the big waves and strong currents. Just cooling down at the shore was not a problem though, and for swimming you can just walk along the beach a few 100 meters to where the sea becomes calmer.
