The lodge is perfect for a solo traveler who didn't plan well. I saw the area I wanted to go, and they helped make it happen. They arranged a car to pick me up from Bangkok (2300 baht), and then arranged guides for me. It is truly a stress free experience. The grounds are pretty huge, and there is a ton of nature in the area. Giant stick bugs, tarantulas, several species of frogs and snakes and toads, endless birds. The lady at the front desk (I'm sorry, I am bad with names) is a blessing. She helped me with everything I needed. The food at the restaurant is great, don't fear not bringing enough food. Everything is fairly priced. I highly recommend the night walks. For 500 baht, you get around 2 hours looking for critters. The rooms are comfy and have their own air conditioner. The beds are nice, and the sheets are cozy. The bathroom has a nice shower, though the water only gets lukewarm. It was very refreshing. There are at least 3 caves nearby, I only went in cave number 3. It wasn't very big, but it has some good formations and plenty of bats. I believe the other 2 are bigger, but I cant attest to that. Cave 3 was the closest, and it took me maybe 45 minutes to get to it. The other caves are not much further, though there is some significant elevation change.

No fridge in the room, though it is understandable. The lodge is very eco conscious, and I respect that. Everything else was wonderful

Baan Maka is a very comfortable nature lodge, with great staff, good food, and nice grounds. The main point, however, is that it is the best nature lodge near Kaeng Krachan national park, probably Thailand's best spot, over all, for bird watching (and other parts of nature I know less about, in particular butterflies and orchids). The guides from Baan Maka are very good, and I highly recommend that you stay there and visit Kaeng Krachan with their guides. If you are a birder, also spend some time at Mr Bird's hide--which Baan Maka can set up for you.

Nothing that matters. It isn't a resort, or a luxury hotel. As a nature lodge, it excels.

If you are visiting Kaeng Krachan for wildlife watching, this is THE place to stay, a lot of the tour guides stay here, or at least go to eat there so there's lots of valuable information about sightings and people to share tales with. They also do spotlighting walks to look for nocturnal wildlife. The food at the restaurant is excellent and they provide a basic buffet breakfast for those wanting to be out at or before first light. we only had one night staying there, but went for meals there on other days.

The mattresses are on the firm side, but then that is what you get in most of Thailand

The staff is incredibly sweet and helpful. We had tons of questions, and they were patient in answering. The location is great for visiting the park. Rooms are quite large and shower/toilet separated by glass divider. They also offer visits to their hides, and we had a fantastic time there. We did a night walk which was alright.

It was not as clean as I would expect a lodge of this price range. The bathrooms by the cafe/reception were pretty gross most of the time. The toilet full of flies and spiderwebs everywhere. At least the toilets in the rooms were cleaner.

The location is close to the national park which is the most important thing when you come here. The food at the bar is very good and reasonably priced. They do a lot of activities like night walks and they can take you to their feeding stations/hides where you can observe a great number of animals and take close photos of them.

The only negative bit we had is that when leaving they offered us transport to the nearest town so that we could get a minivan to Bangkok. However, the driver that took us to the town spoke very little English and so did the minivan driver. So we ended up in a situation where we just jumped into a van without knowing exactly where in Bangkok we were going to be dropped. And it happened that the van guy just dropped us 10km outside of Bangkok :(. There are other people in the lodge with good English, I feel it would have been best if they would use the staff that can speak good English for the bus transfers, or at least make a handsfree call so that we could interact with the minivan driver and ask details about the trip.

Anyone who knows about Kaeng Krachen and nature will know about Baan Maka. What they might not know is how good it actually is. It's brilliant. We had 4 nights, could easily have stayed a week or more. Team are very helpful, hides, 4wd and guides can all be booked at reception. Food is excellent. Early birders breakfast available from 05:30. Gardens and surrounding area full of birds, all within walking distance of your room. Outstanding.

The room was large with a big table. Kettle to make hot drinks The room is designed to be dark to keep it cool and so has bedside lamps. Their is A/C and a fan so you can choose what you prefer. The ensuite bathroom is lovely.. The verandah is great for sitting and reading or watching the birds squirrel and chipmunks. The staff are very helpful and the food at the restaurant is excellent. The lodge is not far from Kreang Kachang national park. The staff will help you organise trips into the park.

Nothing to fault. Although the price seems expensive for a two star property the villas are big, well designed and comfortable. The whole place is well set up for bird watchers and nature lovers.

Staff was super friendly, it was quiet, in the middle of trees and bird songs. The rooms had AC, toilet & shower. The lake on the property with beautiful flowering water lilies was much enjoyable especially with the canoe kayaks provided. We loved the two dogs that would send us off each time we had a walk.

A fridge would have been nice, but we understand given the eco-friendly standards that the property has set itself.

Comfortable lodge with beautiful grounds and excellent management. Night walk was delightful.

Beware. The lodge is absolutely serious that they cannot guarantee availability of guides for Kaeng Krachan. They work with only 3 oversubscribed guides. Official scheduled tours of Kaeng Krachan do not exist. Neither the lodge nor the park HQ could offer any tour or guide, private or shared, during my 3-day stay during the week, and a couple of other guests were in the same situation. This was surprising and disappointing and feels like a failure of the KK ecotourism sector - at the very least money is being left on the table. Again: this is not a specific criticism of Baan Maka, which seems to be the best lodge in the area.

This is such a lovely place for birders and nature lovers. The area is beautiful, their grounds are well kept. You can walk in the garden, do a little nature trail and go to a nice viewpoint. Breakfast starts at 5.30, so after you can immediately go birding. We went 4 days with Games, a fantastic guide that showed us so much. We went to Kaeng Krachan, but also to other places such as Pak Thale. We saw the spoon-billed sandpiper there. Really special! Baan Maka can also bring you to some hides in the area for a reasonable price. That was also a nice experience. You can also go on a night walk around the property. The room is basic, bit has everything you need. The bed is really good and airco worked perfectly. After 6 nights, we still didn't want to leave. We might come back some other time, to see pitta's and broadbills in the nesting season. Thanks Games, Ian and staff for an amazing experience. Also a shout out to the chefs. The food is amazing. Try the som tam, coconut soup, spring rolls, vegetable tempura and panang!
