Really helpful and understanding host. We had explained that we would be arriving on the ferry from Prince Rupert a little after midnight. Despite the late hour the motel was very happy to receive us. We had a comfortable room with sufficient beds for the four of us. Kitchenette and fridge, although we didn't use these as there were drinks (tea, coffee, chilled water) and even continental style breakfast available in the reception area. Would we recommend? Yes. Would we stay again? Definitely!

Two double beds rather than one double and two twin, but we knew this would be the case, as as it seems to be usual across Canada at our budget end of the market we were happy to work with this.

When we entered the family suite we were greeted with a fresh clean smell. Everything looked very clean. The kitchenette had a full stove, a microwave, a coffee machine , big fridge and a good size sink. We liked that there were 4 gas barbecues available for the guests. The suite was a nice big size for the 3 of us plus a small dog. The hotel is in a forest setting, it was very quiet there. There are nature trails nearby. Staff very friendly and helpful.

THE KITCHENETTE: Not enough dishes [cups] for the number of guests. No soup bowls. No cooking pot. No salad bowl. The kettle was ancient {that is why I like a big cooking pot to boil water in]. The door to the bedroom did not close properly. There was a bullet hole in the bedroom window. The was a lack of counter top space around the sink in the bathroom. The fridge was making noises at night.

Decent rooms kept up nicely, very clean, safe, and mostly quiet. I enjoyed being out of town and close to the river.

It's just a little noisy if folks are talking outside. I'm also super light sensitive and while I appreciated that the parking lot was well lit I wished there were black out curtains.

Clean, basic motel accommodation.

It’s expensive for what it is, but when you consider the location, time of year and also the fact they have the somewhat captive ferry market it’s more understandable.

Very clean, updated room and amenities. Light continental breakfast snacks & coffee available. Friendly and helpful staff, Quick and easy check-in. Key drop for early morning check-out.

Great location! We spent time walking round. There was a nice restaurant on site. The room was big enough for my family & dog. Room was very clean.

Rooms where big but a bit old. The walls were thin. The door hinges needed oil-very noisy when opening & closing door. Only one key-which was hard to share with my family. The front desk staff was not very friendly or welcoming.

Cozy and comfortable room situated across from nice lite hiking trails that my dog and I enjoyed. I also enjoyed the Japanese/Korean restaurant next door. Loved the fried chicken.

No kitchenette (upgrade next time) and a desk to do office work would have been nice but overall very nice room / motel. I enjoyed my stay at the Pioneer.

The location is excellent connecting North-South and West-East of Vancouver Island. Well cared Owner operating facility.

The lady who booked us in was pleasant and kind. We appreciated her waiting to book us in. We left before the breakfast so we could catch the Port Hardy ferry. The sheets were linen I think and I felt like royalty!! A quiet, restful night.

The staff person was very helpful.We had a 2nd floor room the first trip and when he saw that we were seniors he helped with our luggage. The second trip he gave us a ground floor room.

Firstbroom lacked enough plugs to charge phomes, etc.
