This is an awesome place to fully immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the ancient city of Pingyao! The location is very convenient. Inside the old town, but you can walk from the North gate in 10 minutes or less. That being said, the hotel staff really does speak English, which will make things much easier during your stay. For example, this hotel was very helpful in organizing one-day-trips out of the town, it took literally 5 minutes to coordinate with the hostess the route and start time we needed. We had a spacious room on the second floor with three beds. I think it is quieter than the first floor rooms. There are a lot of guests and visitors, there is still someone running around in the courtyards on the first floor in the evenings, but our upstairs hallway was very quiet. The room has slippers, kettle and cups, drinking water, which is replenished every day, shower gel and shampoo. The bed linen and towels are clean, the room is cleaned every day. There were no questions about water supply and sewerage, everything works normally. There is also a good number of European-style electrical outlets. WiFi was very good as well. The hotel serves a very varied breakfast. There is a Chinese-style breakfast in buffet form. For guests unaccustomed to such dishes, there is an additional menu with an excellent choice. (Actually, this is why the hotel does not include breakfast in the room rate in advance. You can choose different options at different prices.) You will also be served tea and coffee in the format we are used to at breakfast. Very comfortable. There are probably a lot of pictures here already, but I'll give in to temptation and attach a couple of my own. There is also a “Switzerland-breakfast" on my picture. Traditional Chinese beds are pretty hard for us. One of us even had to move to another bed after the first night, where the mattress was thicker and softer. We apologize! 😅

The hotel is family owned, take a chance to speak to them, they are really interesting people. Everyone we encountered with spoke perfect English. We got a transfer from and to the train station organized but a hotel owner. It was probably a wise thing to do because the hotel is in the very heart of the ancient city with lots of narrow and pedestrian-only streets, so it could be tricky to get there without exactly knowing how to get there. The room is a great combination of modern facilities with a real Chinese flair, we really liked the vibe. The breakfast can be organized (not included in room price), they have some variety of western breakfast options. Although probably Chinese option could also be organized because we've seen Chinese tourists taking Chinese breakfast, but not sure about that.The breakfast is a-la carte (no buffet).

The location was perfect, right in the city center of the ancient city wall. The room was nice and spacious. The hosts are extremely nice and speak very good English. I would definitely recommend it!

The location is also used as a photoshoot area so sometimes you would look out rhetorical window and see a whole group of people.

Good location near one of the main shopping streets. Hotel was very helpful to arrange taxi services to and from the Pingyao Gucheng station (with a fee). Beds were super comfy. Best part were the courtyards...they were very beautifully maintained and curated, worth a lot of pictures, but without looking too 'touristy'. The owner/receptionist was very kind and helpful, and spoke good English.

Bathroom was badly designed with the shower area directly in front of the wash basin and hair dryer which could be a little hazardous. I didn't like the disposable towels that were provided (from an environmental and comfort perspective), though we were offered 'normal' bath towels by the housekeeping staff the next day. Room had too many bulky decorations and too little space to put and hang stuff.

The Harmony Hotel has a prime location , a side street from West Street with everything close by . Even so it is a quiet old courtyard hotel , romantic and peaceful . Upon arrival food was prepared for us . And breakfasts are à la carte so you get as much as you want and exactly what you want . The rooms are spacious , the beds hard and you can sit outside your room in the yard . The owners and their son are amazingly helpful and speak English fluently . The lady of the house - should I say the Empress ? - arranged tickets for “ Another glance at Pingyao “ and drivers to Zhangbi castle the Wang Compound . Highly recommended .

I like the support provided by the owners and their attention to the guest in providing all information needed. They speak a good english and they arranged for us transfers from/to the train station and Mian Shan. They also organize transfers for a day trip to other sites outside the city. Restaurant is also very good: there is a limited choice but the quality is very high! The hotel is located in a nice area, close to the main streets. The courtyards with red lights are amazing and the traditional rooms as well! We liked the opportunity to wear traditional clothes for some pictures! The best in town for a foreigners and not! Highly recommended!

The owners are fluent English speakers, which I was not expecting and can make a whole trip experience much easier. They are also really nice and helpful. The location of the property is great, within the city walls and right off one of the main streets. It is not far from the wall gate on the west side, so it's easy to find even on your first trip. FYI they can arrange a pick-up for your departure with a car that is allowed indide the city walls. The courtyard atmosphere is magic and cannot be experienced staying at a standard hotel. Unbeatable value for money.

I think before commenting anything remotely negative one should remember that with similar rates in other parts of the world you can barely get a bunk and a shared bathroom!

Excellent experience staying inside Pingyao ancient town. Highly recommended, value for money. Great location near to the main business street inside the ancient. family run mansion, Eshan was very helpful and share all relevant information needed for tourist. He also make arrangement for transportation from train station. Staffs were very helpful, always go beyond.

We loved our stay at Harmony, the family who run the place are super helpful, really good English if that's what you're looking for (we accepted it as not a problem but it's of course really helpful) and the good there is incredible. Highly recommend and also there is the Cozy bar on the other side of town which is really fun. One of the best places we've stayed during our 6 month travels. The rooms are also beautiful and just the whole place! Can't recommend enough.

The place is absolutely stunning. It is a classic Chinese courtyard house where you can smell the past of the city. The staff is great and they are all English speakers. They are very responsive and helpful in describing the city and answer to all your questions.

My room needed a bit of attention but we are talking about a very old brick/stone/wood house. Also the room could have been a bit more clean. Nothing in disorder really.
