Room was spacious, well decorated and clean. Location was within walking distance of a subway station. Convenience store right next to the hotel entrance.

The hotel claimed a no-smoking policy, but this was not strictly enforced. Some guests were smoking indoors at breakfast. The corridors to the rooms smell like smoke and damp carpet.

This hotel and especially its staff is absolutely the opposite of "hospitality". On arrival, staff doesn't help you (especially if you are foreigner, even if you can speak Mandarin quite well) and just stares at you waiting for you to take action yourself. When checking in, they don't speak to you, take your passport away to make copies, leaving credit card behind the desk unattended, and worse of all: if you pay for your stay beforehand by credit card? they don't see the payment/don't even believe any evidence. They instead force you to pay via WeChat or Alipay and are very rude about it. Then, during the middle of the night at 03:30 they started calling me, and accused a guest of taking another guest to the room (without any evidence) and ask yet for payment again. When as a guest you try to solve the issue together with them by going down and ask for the manager, they do not ask a manager but instead, ask a low-class security officer to talk to you in bad Mandarin. When as a guest asking them to provide evidence they suddenly correct themselves by claiming "it was just a mistake as we confused your booking with the booking of another guest (a lady) who booked that room" and instruct you to "go to sleep". The next morning on check out, I was asked by the friendly & very helpful booking.com staff (who I called in the middle of the night, and who called the property but nobody answered the phone whilst I could see 3 staff near the phone ringing) to provide a proof of payment. When I asked to provide an invoice, they just stood there again, not taking any action until I kept repeatedly asking. This is the classic example of a staff member who probably tried to cover up the administrative mistake he made himself by finding any ways to bully a foreign guest, thinking they can get away with this kind of behaviour. Absolute disgrace to a big hotel chain that is normally of good quality: Holiday Inn Express.
