Compared with our last stay half a year ago Pension U Johnu has put new beds in all its rooms. This means that the comfort has advanced greatly. This time we had room nr 2 which doesn't look out on the road. The room was nicely heated. Apart from the new 90 cm beds there is a round table + two chairs + a strong Wifi connection (No TV). There are two electricity connections to the mains. In the bathroom there is a dispenser with hand soap at the wash basin and a dispenser with shampoo/body gel in the shower. Good quality. The toilet has a cleaning 4-balls gadget hanging inside. Downstairs there is a Czech restaurant (cooking up to 21 hours) which had the same prices as half a year ago. (35 CZK for black beer, 160 CZK for a typical Czech meal) From 8 till 9.30 hours there is breakfast being served downstairs in a dedicated room. There is a huge choice of breakfast menus (we choose an omelet with ham). The coffee/tea tastes excellent (another coffee/tea was being offered at the end of the meal). All in all highly recommended! About a 10 minutes drive down the mountain there is the battlefield memorial of 1813 (Battle of Chlumec). Close to it there is tank station ONO (very well priced, one of the biggest chains in the Czech Republic).

The stay was as expected. The room and bathroom were clean and soaps were provided. The mattresses are on the soft side, but we slept well. The owners are very friendly. The breakfast was filling and for few crowns more you can add extra options. The dinner menu has many dishes. For alergic people: be aware that there is a cat. He won't come close to you or won't jump on your legs, but it is there. Didn't like: The smell of painted wood in the room was very strong. The smell of the kitchen - it was coming up the stairs and after dinner my clothes were smelling. The towels are a bit old and already have the horrible stink. It would be better to replace them.

Great price/quality ratio to stay for a a night or two. I stayed here right before Christmas time in 2023 and it was a great experience for me. I arrived late night after a whole day of driving and the restaurant had delicious Czech specialties and local beer. The room was warm, clean and quiet. Moreover, the breakfast was also very nice, warm and tasty. The staff was friendly and helpful.

The only thing that was a bit challenging is getting to the hotel. But it is not the pensions' fault since the nature here can be quite unpredictable. On the day of my arrival a snow storm came to this region of Czech Republic and the roads turned in snow piles quite quickly. I was able to get there quite easily but some guests who were arriving later than me got stuck in the snow. So if you are traveling in winter time, beware.

Loved: the location - close to the motorway, simple, but spacious room: big, comfortable bed + a bunk bed, a sofa, a coffee table and a wardrobe. Brand new en-shower room with toilet. Good breakfast from menu, and extra portion food only € 2. Cosy restaurant and terrace. Staff were friendly. Free carpark. We travelled with our dog, small extra charge applied for her stay. Amazing view from the room. Great walking in the area -woodlands near by. Very reasonable priced for a family of 3. We enjoyed our stay. Will recommend for anyone travelling with smaller budget and like quietness...

We could use a kettle and hairdryer in the room. But we didn't ask for so... not like we didn't like it...

The location of pension U Johnu is excellent. When you arrive from Dresden/Germany or from Prague, this pension is close to the highway but far away enough to be free from any traffic noise whatsoever. The room is big enough. There is a double bed and there are two comfortable chairs + a small round table. No problem with electricity connections, nor with Wifi which is excellent. We enjoyed the Czech cuisine of the restaurant, which had its main meal prices hovering around 160 CZK and beer for 32/35 CZK. The breakfast consisted of a menu choice (we had scrambled eggs and Viennese sausages) + jam/honey/liver pate + 1 coffee or tea + Czech bread / 'rohliky'. For those who arrive by car, there is a ONO petrol station nine minutes away in the town of Chlumec. Chlumec has several (nicely restored) monuments remembering the big battle that happened there in the Napoleon times (1813). The mountain air helps to get a good night sleep.

Although we slept well, the mattress is showing its age with a weak spot in the centre. The room has no TV. The bathroom has no electric mains for connecting an electric shaver (although most shavers do not need this anymore). The breakfast didn't offer juice nor yoghurt. Be aware of a quite big temperature difference between this location on top of the mountain ridge and the rest of the mainland 'below'. We drove through Germany with 23 degrees, but on arrival our car mentioned the outside temperature of 16 degrees. All in all this pension is quite OK with a competitive price offer + a good restaurant.

The staff were friendly, rooms miminalistic but clean and just OK. Great stay for the value. We enjoyed breakfast very much.

The price of the meals and beer is quite high for the region, also the restaurant closes at 10 pm with no possibility to continue staying with family or friends afterwards. This is quite unfortunate since the place is located "in the middle of nowhere" and there are no other possibilities.

It's a great place for those who are travelling through somewhere. Nice staff, but not too much contact. They let you be and do your thing. Its worth its price. I choose them 2 times and i would choose them next time too.

if i had to mention anything, its the matrasses. I think they should be changed cause for a man it cant be that comfortable since they wont hold your wieght properly and you could wake up with your back hurting. Also the material of the sheets could be better. Thats it. Still fair for the price!

This time we got room 7, which is completely new. Room 7 is very spacious (there are 2 extra beds and there is a big bench). The bathroom is big as well. The shower has its own compartment and functions well. Penzion U Johnu is attracting lots of guests and has an international atmosphere (there were US, DE, SK and NL guests). The Czech food on the menu is OK and the beer (we advise black beer) is best. In the morning one can select a breakfast menu. We had scrambled eggs and omelet. For those who arrive by car: down the mountain there is an ONO tank station, which tends to be extremely busy (in Teplice there is a much more quiet ONO).

The mattresses were OK but seemed a bit worn out

The location is nice, it has a bar which we did not use but surely looked inviting! The room was spacious and clean. The staff was friendly. I would probably come back if I would travel this way.

The bed was way too soft for my liking, but otherwise the room was fine. We wanted to leave early in the morning but the a la carte breakfast was a lot slower than a buffet-style. It was tasty though. The coffee was not that great.

Excellent location! So close to the highway and close to the German border. You can enjoy the countryside feeling. The check-in went well. The room was so large. NO TV in the room - luckily. The bathroom was nice, large. The towels were clean. The restaurant provides Checz and German FRESHLY MADE dishes. (for good price). The breakfast was delicious. You can select different menu. The parking is easy, beaside and in front of the hotel. Wifi worked well. I saw many couples to go for a walk after having dinner. The staff is so polite. The owner made the breakfast and coffee for all guest. Nice, calm and safe place to stay. "O loupežníku Rumcajsovi"
