My dad and I had a wonderful three-night stay at Hotel Hafnia in mid-January, despite the challenging journey to get there (hats off to the pilots navigating through the Faroese winds and low visibility!). Situated in the heart of Tórshavn and steeped in rich history since its founding in 1951, the hotel offers an ideal base for exploring the charming capital. The rooms provided a cosy and welcoming retreat from the winter chill, while thoughtful touches, such as a stunning wall-sized photo collage that captured the essence of Faroese culture, added an extra layer of charm. One of the highlights of the stay was the breakfast buffet, offering a delectable array of options to fuel a day of adventures. We even joked that the royal-like flush of the toilet added a touch of grandeur to our mornings, complemented by the sleekest toilet brush we've ever seen! The staff were exceptional – friendly, attentive, and always ready to enhance our experience, making the stay feel personal and warm. As for nearby activities, we highly recommend a day trip to the picturesque island of Nólsoy or to Kirkjubøur – a lovely village steeped in history and nature. However, be mindful of bus schedules; ours departed ahead of time, leaving us stranded! Thankfully, a generous local couple saved the day, driving us back in time for our wine hour—an unforgettable laugh-about-it-later moment.

The only downside? The thunderous symphony of snoring right next to my head every night. The culprit? Not the hotel, of course, but – my dad!

Really friendly staff, fantastic location very near to harbour, restaurants and sites of local interest, comfortable large room (it was a superior room), and excellent breakfasts that set you up for the day. The free glass of wine in the bar at the start of the evening is a nice welcome touch

Nothing to say here. The hotel met more than my expectations and was a very positive experience for my wife and I. We came away refreshed from our week in the Faroe Islands

room is really small, bed pushed to one wall so more difficult to access for a couple, no nightstands, difficult to charge devices for two people, it was a party weekend in Torshavn so with open window leading to main street we were woken up by noisy partygoers but that's a tradeoff for the very central location

Good ideally located hotel in the centre of Torshavn- I was lucky to have a beautiful view from my room over grass roofed houses that could only be the Faroe Islands! Friendly helpful staff- everyone, reception bar, cleaners etc. Good breakfast. Free glass of wine between 5 and 6pm was welcome to relax after a busy day in wild weather. A limited number of parking spaces, where I was also lucky to always find a space. Otherwise parking within Torshavn during the day is free with a parking discount for between 2 and 7 hours depending on the place. Free overnight and Sunday. Tips: on Sundays between 1 and 4 pm there is a small farmers market in front of the cafes vying the Marina. Also the national gallery is open till 8pm in the 1st Thursday of the month. Take away Fish and chips in town also good.

All good. One day when a little difficult to find a parking space for my car. Faroes restaurant prices are in general expensive.

We arrived on a late ferry and needed somewhere to stay on the night before the national festival and they were perfect, even if the price was high. They were so generous and included breakfast and were so helpful with all my questions about closed roads, parking and arrival procedures, ATM and supermarket locations and the events happening for the festival.

The stairs up to the loft bed in the family room were very steep and these mattresses were clearly intended for children, although adequate for me too.

Pros: Middle of Tórshavn, close to anything and everything you need and want to explore. Staff was great, super helpful. Safe for solo women travelers, good food at both Bistro and café Kaspar

The hygiene in the bathroom could have been better. After each clean, it felt like they are only changing the towels. Loud streets on the weekend, people party until 4am on the streets, could not sleep Friday and Saturday

When it's cold outside, it's nice and warm and snug. Parking was mostly easy to find. Staff allowed late checkout, and when they had forgotten they had agreed, they cancelled the additional charge. Breakfast was decent.

The annex is modern, but a bit odd in that you have to walk through a partially outdoor (covered) area on your way to and from the room. In the run up to December, there were a lot of noisy functions, and corridors and stairs full of non-guests until the small hours. TV had no English speaking channels.

Hotel Hafnia is very close by the old city town, and visible from everywhere so it is easy to reach out from the bus station. The breakfast was fantastic, and the music from the breakfast area was lovely. The cleaning lady always made sure that I had my favorite tea in the room. At the check-in, from the reception you get discount vouchers to the restaurants which were of a great value. Also, the sauna was always prepared in due time, and the staff members were very nice.

The paint was peeling from the walls especially near the window and into the bathroom. Also, I could see some left-over from the previous guest under the bed. During the weekend, the neighborhood is very noisy and you can hear the teenagers parting on the streets. Also, the initial room that was allocated to me on the 2nd floor had problems with flushing away the water, the tap water was yellowish and a bad smelling was predominating the room. Luckily, the receptionist gave me another room, still maybe maintenance needs to be done for some of the rooms.

Basic Single Room is very small. No sink in the bathroom (it's in the room) which is a bit annoying. A closet is super small - if you're staying for a longer period and/or have a lot of clothes you might want to consider a bigger room.

Breakfast was superb! Also, coupons for drinks and wine hour were a nice touch. We also requested sauna (which is included in the room price) and front desk arranged it even a little bit after its working hours. Staff was accommodating and friendly. The hotel is a local enterprise operating since the 50s (if I am not mistaken) - it was great to be there and not in some chain hotel.

The room was not very spacious for a couple but it was expected. Since most of the time was spent hiking and exploring, it did not matter much.
