Hotel has excellent location, next to the pier form where many boat tours are departing. Staff was friendly and all issues were quickly resolved. Breakfast was decent.

On Boolking.com we reserved hotel for 2 adults and child with breakfast (it only said with breakfast so assumption was that breakfast is available for everyone). Hotel has different policy for children, but they adjusted reservation on their side and honored how it was advertised on Booking.com

LOVED the cold water machines next to the ice machines. This saved us SO much money!! Plus it was a really nice touch. The "key" bracelets are a stroke of genius - waterproof, wearable and difficult to lose - but the BIG plus is that we didn't have to deal with rude, bully parking attendants that we had read about from previous reviews! Mahalo!! The dining room staff were SO welcoming and offered wonderful service - Kudos to Marie, Lani and Mr. Omelette gentleman.

When we booked the rooms with Booking.com, the room description said breakfast was included. Ten months later just prior to arrival we discovered that only TWO guests per room had included breakfasts; any others (the children) had to pay for breakfast and the prices were egregiously exorbitant (i.e., $32 for the teens - OMG!!). The sofa bed was quite uncomfortable - better to put 2 queen beds in the room. The bathrooms are dated and need to be renovated/updated, especially with the high prices we paid for the rooms.

Very chilled and friendly staff. Rules very lightly applied. Bizy atmosphere. Hotel is kind of a museum to King Kamehameha and the bay is both sacred and historical as well as bizzy and relevant- every day the outrigger clubs take out their canoes, people walk by … this is just the nicest and friendliest hotels we have stayed at. Live music by the pool every evening. Pool open til 10pm. Played a got game of tennis too!! A delight!

The reef out in the back of the property was full of fish and a nice sandy bottom. Probably the nicest snorkeling experience we had on island…and we had paid for boats to take us out. The staff was SO FRIENDLY…everyone said hello and was there to help. The view was not as advertised though. We made up for it by being on the go the whole week, but beware the listing for “ocean view” on booking.com it actually had view of the parking lot and a sliver of the lagoon. Save money and buy “garden view”. As hotels go though..this one wins for the amazing sandy beach right on the property!!!

View wasnt as stated. Cleaning room was every other day forcing us to retrieve supplies daily and call to have garbage emptied.

Super clean, beautiful landscaping, staff was friendly, very comfy bed and room. All the basics was covered. The location is good too, right on the small but beautiful beach, close to shops, restaurants, etc

A bit expensive, but that’s bc it’s in Hawaii.. the same hotel in the main land would’ve cost half of the price. But we did splurge and get the room facing the ocean.

very conveniently located surrounded by many shops and restaurants. Also the hotel is one of the main pickup points for many tour organizers. quick access to the beach and about 15min ride to the Kona airport. Staff was nice and kind. The hotel has a beautiful hall showing various historical heritage.

the reception can be quite crowded when big groups arrive (seemed to me the hotel was popular among group tours)

proximity to the ocean, information on the history of Hawaii, access to chairs and umbrellas for the beach, quick and effective check in.

we expected a full ocean view for the price we paid. Did not get that.

One of the best beach hotel in Big Island in the heart of Kona. The beach is small but clean and is connected to the hotel, almost unique experience in the USA. There is a 1 mile long beach walk with lot of good restaurants. The excellent submarine trip goes directly from the hotel.

The area is a little bit noisy, due to the port, some evening the locals make a street party with very loud music until late night. The rising number of homeless people in the tourist areas is worrying here also.

Location was what made our stay especially enjoyable, including the dining areas and the lagoon for swimming and snorkeling.

Our check-in was frustrating. We couldn't get the key to work, came back to the desk to get a new key which still didn't work for us when we returned to the room , all the while carrying our luggage, at ages 83 and 85 not as easy as it used to be. With first failure it would have been nice if someone could have offered to come back to the room with us and we could have left our luggage some place because it could have just been that we didn't know how to work the key. We returned to the desk again and were given a key for a new room but it was a long way to the west wing. Check out went smoothly.
