Yes the hotel looks dated however, Our six rooms were all clean with fresh towels no rubbish or dust that we could see. The hotelier did not speak English neither did the staff we spoke to, this was not a major issue as it gave us a chance to use our small amount of French. Other guests we talked to helped with the translation so no big deal. I would recommend this hotel to motorcyclists as they have secure parking in locked garage that our room overlooked. We stayed Saturday night, noise was not an issue almost no road traffic. Food in the restaurant was good, we had a small choice but no complaints. breakfast was the usual continental only one thing we encountered was no cold milk for the cornflakes. We will be back.

As I said hotel is dated, this is reflected in the price though. This is not a complaint but it may be helpful if they had a member of staff who could speak English.

This is a bit of "À la recherche du temps perdu", a hotel of the 1990s. The place has seen better days, but everything is clean enough. The room was large and bathroom extra-large. It's been many years I took a bath in a bathtub. It was the cheapest place available in the town and I would go there again.

The walk from the train station is not long, but some houses and empty shops on the way show that the town has seen better days.

This is an old style French hotel. My room had clearly been renovated. The staff were very friendly and the evening meal was excellent. Breakfast was a bit basic but the half board arrangement was not expensive. Good situation less than 10 minutes walk from the Main Street. Quiet area and car park to the rear of the hotel. Ideal for a stopover for one night

Breakfast was a bit basic but then the hotel was not expensive

Don't be fooled by the unpreposessing exterior: inside is a moderately priced but convenient and friendly hotel. We were pleased with our room (112) and the Matisse poster on the wall. The room was simply furnished, but we had everything needful, and the bathroom was above expectations. Dinner, though, was absolutely excellent, and way better than one might expect from the rather dowdy outside of the place.

The outside of the hotel really does need some work: it just looks a bit neglected - as does the garden. To be fair, Bar-le-Duc is not a town with a massive amount to offer the tourist, so to find a place so well-priced and convenient is a plus.

We booked this hotel at a very competitive price late in the day with little expectations. First impressions were that it would be of poor quality as all the communal areas were dark and in need of some refreshing. But we were pleasantly surprised with the clean room with a recently modernised bathroom. A garage was offered for my Motorbike, which again was most welcome as it was an urban area. Wine was reasonably priced and there was a secluded terrace where it could be drunk pre dinner. The dinner which was offered at 15 euros (total price) again surprised us greatly, having not great expectations at that price. Four courses with 4-5 multiple choices for each course of good wholesome well cooked food. A marvellous experience! And a sign that this was not a rarity, the dinning room was full of locals too. Well done hotel Bertrand for exceeding expectations.

A few coats of paint could brighten communal areas.

Basic 'budget' room. Clean. Good breakfast and excellent evening meal offering big portions with choice of 2 different priced menus, each with several choices - 4 courses for €15, or €20. Allowed off road parking in private garage for our motorbikes.

Only bottled beer available. Outside could do with a spruce-up.

The accommodation is clean and provides breakfast, it’s good value. My motorbike was stored overnight in a garage.

From the outside it’s somewhat off putting, which doesn’t reflect on how it is inside.
