We were looking for a traditional French hotel, serving good, freshly cooked, regional cuisine at dinner and a traditional breakfast with proper real French bread, not an international style one with far too much choice. We were not disappointed. The Hotel Sauvage was everything we hoped: run by a friendly family with personal service at meals and local advice when we needed it. We ate in the hotel every night and there always something fresh and different each night, with good value local Macon wines by the bottle, glass or pichet. If you like modern hotels with coffee machines and a vegan menu, this is not for you. We booked a larger than double room as we like enough space, and this was a good choice. There is ample free parking outside. We would come again.

Breakfast is fine - location in centre close to La Gare. We arrived on a Sunday evening and were pleasantly surprised to find the restaurant open for dinner with a full menu and good food. Our choice of wine wasn't available but a higher priced wine was substituted for the same price - a nice touch.

Well located hotel very close to motorway. This hotel is old fashioned with a lot of character and very friendly staff. I thoroughly enjoyed my overnight stay and slept well in spacious room and very quiet. Good food in the restaurant.

Nothing really The breakfast was limited with yoghurt…bread and croissant and coffee but was enough and fair for the price.

It's one of the few hotels around there with a 24-hour reception, which is super handy if you're arriving late. The hotel and rooms have a charming vibe, and the staff is really friendly. Breakfast was awesome—we even got freshly cooked eggs when we asked. There's public parking right in front of the hotel.

Retro style hotel (a matter of taste, but we liked it a lot). It's an 18th century building, with some utensils from back then displayed. Under the hood (and the vintage looking exterior) everything worked well, was tidy and very clean. The food was excellent and good value for money; also the location is great: close to the abbey and historic town centre, and close to the motorway, so ideal for a stopover.

No shower curtain, leading to a bit of flooding on the bathroom floor. Internet was only working in some rooms (not in ours) and in the lobby.

I stay here often commuting to South of France as very near the motorway and I like the hotel and bedroom size and restaurant. The owner is very friendly and it’s good value for money. The hotel is old fashioned but I like that and it’s spacious with easy parking.

Nothing to dislike

Tournus is a pretty town and an ideal mid point stopping place if travelling the length of France. The hotel represents excellent value for money and is always spotlessly clean with obliging and welcoming staff.

As frequent visitors we’re ready for a change in menu options although the existing choice is always excellent.

Location was close to the motorway but also in the centre of town, with free parking just a few metres away. Good terrace at the front to enjoy a drink, despite the wet weather.

Areas of the hotel were a bit dark, including the stairway. Hotel is a bit dated but has character.

Hotel in the old style close to the Abbey in Tournus. Comfortable beds, good breakfast, lock-up garage for our touring bikes. It was surprisingly difficult to find a restaurant in Tournus, we walked around the town for almost an hour with no success! Eventually found the Resto de l’Abbaye near our hotel but on the upper main road. Can highly recommend this for authentic French cuisine at good prices!

A nice little hotel as in the old times with a suitable decor. And for the first time we slept in a round bed.

There was no curtain at the bad to take a shower so the bathroom was all wet. The water of the sink didn’t run through very fast. But these are minor details. The staff was very friendly and a parking in front of the hotel. Breakfast and room were correct.
