A few months ago I had to cancel a reservation here due to an emergency at home. The hotel refunded my money, though it didn't have to according to Booking's terms. I felt I owed it to them to make the journey when I could! Plus, I still wanted to visit Tubingen. So here I am reviewing them after finally getting there.... The hotel is in a great location next to the castle but also not far from the station. We arrived very early, but as I'd asked to leave luggage due to our early arrival we actually found our room ready for check-in, two hours early. The staff are very kind and friendly, and we wished we could have stayed longer to try everything on the breakfast menu! We also had dinner in the restaurant and here were loads of excellent regional choices, including veggie and vegan. It was super-quiet at night, despite being so central.

Another reviewer mentioned a smell of smoke in their room - I noticed this too, and suspect it's because I chose a cheaper room since we were only staying one night - I thought it would be a smaller room, but I think it more likely it was one not so recently decorated, so the smoke smell from before the ban lingered a bit in the building's fabric. The room was otherwise very clean, there were clear signs banning smoking, and the lower rooms looked recently redecorated.

Location right next to the Tübingen Schloss. The room I stayed in was on the top floor of the neighboring building and very spacious.(I think they call it the deluxe room?) It was like a mini apartment, so I liked that the bathroom wasn't directly in the bedroom and gave more privacy. I wasn't in the main building since they were renovating so I can't say anything about that. Breakfast was in the restaurant next door and was a great selection. You are right in the old town and the train station is 15 minutes away. There is parking available.

Be aware that in the neighboring building there is no elevator, so carrying suitcases up the narrow stairs can be challenging if you have a lot of luggage (though the staff will assist). Also the trek from the train station is 15 minutes uphill on cobblestones so be aware of this. You can drive up there, but the streets are narrow, so don't get a big rental.

Characterful and authentic hotel in the historic heart of Tübingen, compact but comfortable rooms in a beautiful historic building on the way up towards the castle, with glorious views in the distance. Generous and delicious breakfast and friendly professional staff.

I have stayed both in the main hotel building and in the annex, which is just across the street. You don't find out where your room is until you arrive and although both are fine I found the room in the main building to be quieter. More free toiletries such as body lotion would be a nice addition.

The hotel is absolutely ideally positioned to walk into the old town. We really loved the hotel restaurant, the food was excellent and all the hotel staff were fantastic. Nothing was too much trouble and they were all so professional, friendly and welcoming. There is a romantic terrace overlooking part of the old town where you can sip a cocktail or have lunch or dinner. Whilst our bedroom wasn’t vast, it was perfectly fine for us, very comfortable and clean. The shower room was lovely, well laid out with plenty of plug sockets everywhere and plenty of lights. (Stunningly beautiful blue glass handbasin.)

Just a couple of minor things really … because we were on the ground floor we couldn’t open our widows very wide, so our room was very hot …. even with the tall oscillating fan running all night. The only other minor thing was the very narrow lane to access the hotel it was a bit hairy (… it looked more like a footpath!!!) and once you get up there there’s rather tight parking to contend with!! But to be fair, the staff couldn’t have been more helpful in getting us sorted.

The hotel is in a great location in the middle of the city centre but accessible by car. Staff is really friendly and helpful. Also, a charging station was directly at the hotel available. Unfortunately, I had only one night in Tübingen and hence could not explore much.

The entrance to my room in a sperate building was a bit tricky. You open the door of the room and immediately there are three steps down. If you are not careful or attentive you could virtually fall into the room. A small warning sign could help. It was not a problem for me, but I could imagine.

Great hotel, classic German historic structure right next to the town's castle. That means a narrow cobblestone alleyway approach and limited parking, but well worth the trip to stay in one of our favorite cities in Germany at a friendly, and well-run hotel. Great German breakfast buffet in the morning and helpful staff who, of course, all spoke English.

Minor complaints would be that the room was a little smaller than we anticipated, but that's how they built things way back when, so...... And also, the stair-steps getting up to the 3rd floor rooms are a bit steep and might not be perfect for older or mobility-challenged guests.

Good location near the castle in the old part of the town, close to cafes, shops, and fairly quiet with small streets. Well designed room. Excellent breakfast adds significant value to the stay. Breakfast venue is also a restaurant with quality food, mostly traditional German with several local ingredients. Great staff.

Not really suitable if you have mobility issues. No elevator to rooms. Also the 15 minute walk from train station is on cobbled streets with some slopes. But otherwise really great.

The hotel has had a renovation since our last stay. Rooms are very nice, views are great, in the Old Town right next to the castle.

I caution anyone from taking the black taxis waiting outside the train station. Call the hotel and they will get a reputable taxi for you. The hotel is up a high hill with cobblestones. It’s only a 3-5 minute drive, but an unethical driver charged us 20 euros. Hotel ordered taxi for our return to train station for 10 euros!

This is a cute, historic building right in the heart of Tubingen, very close to the historic castle and easy walking distance to shops, restaurants, and cafes. The breakfast spread was small but everything tasted good and the outdoor patio had a beautiful view of the town and hills in the distance.

We stayed during a very warm week and while my room had a fan, it was quite warm at night and that made it difficult to sleep. I know this is a historic building though, so I can't blame them too much for not having the full blast air conditioning that American travelers are likely used to!

Hotel Am Schloss Superior was well located for my first visit to the area from which one of my grandparents originates. Located next to the Hohentuebingen Castle, only a short walk to the Rathaus, Hoelderlin Tower and the Collegiate Church of St. George, there was much more of interest to see than I had time for. The furnishings of my single room with bathroom were modern and clean. The breakfast offering was superb.

My visit to Tuebingen came at the end of a trip via Strasbourg, Offenburg, and Trossingen, before catching a train to the Frankfurt airport. Occurring during warm, humid weather, my travel (by train) and overnight stays would have been more comfortable if air conditioning had been available. However, Hotel Am Schloss Superior did at least provide a much appreciated electric fan for my room.
