It was perhaps too remote (in winter) as there was absolutely nothing there, except the hotel. Also no bar or any staff (after 6pm)…

Our access card unexpectedly became deactivated, requiring us to travel 3 miles to have it reactivated. There's a restaurant in the basement with a male employee who seemed quite unfriendly; it might be best to steer clear of it. Other than that, everything else should be okay :)

The location was amazing

The staff was not available or not very helpfull. The reception was not open to check out. The staff didn’t seem interested. The food was not good. No good choices after biking a day. It was all fast food and the choice of drinks was poor.

I was too late on arrival and the person on the desk was just impolite.

We went with the train. At the last moment, we were asked to collect the keys from another hotel which was around 2 KM away from this hotel. We were relying on public transport so it took us more than 2 hours to check in. The hotel rooms were nice and clean, and breakfast was good too. However, if you are traveling by public transport then it could be really difficult to check in, if you have a car then you can manage. Overall it was not so pleasant experience, the public transport in itself is not that good in this location and the process to check in at different locations - it becomes very difficult to travel 2 km in a hilly region with family and kids.

Clean spacious room, tasty breakfast. Being able to bring a pet is a plus, even though it costs additional ~20 EUR.

First of all, hotel was simply locked when we arrived at 12:30. We had to drive up the mountain in the snow storm to see an empty hotel and a paper that informed us that on Mondays and Tuesdays you have to go to a different hotel and check in there. It is a 10 minute drive, but why couldn't I receive this information by email before my arrival? The weather was so bad one car went off the road near hotel parking, and I had to drive all the way down the mountain, go to a different hotel on the other end of Winterberg and then return all after a long road in dangerous conditions. However, it was not the worst part. In the online tool they use to manage checkin and checkouts, there was an option to checkout at 12. However, when we went to put some things in our car at 9:00 employee suggested us to checkout now (employee did not speak English - it is important). Using translator, we said that we will be back near 12 to checkout, but he said that checkout is at 11 and it doesn't matter what online service said. When I said that then we will get back at 11, he angrily mumbled something in German which I can only assume was an insult, as before (during breakfast) he mentioned how my wife's face looked "ukrainian" (even if it was a compliment, I would prefer people to not comment on our faces and what nationalities they resemble). After that interaction we decided to checkout immediately and never to return to that hotel.
