Service from the staff, particularly from the restaurant, Tapas and chef Krishnan ensured I had specially made gluten free flatbreads for breakfast, which I really appreciated.The choice at breakfast was very good. Rabi who serviced our room was excellent too. Our room was spacious. The spa at the hotel was very good too, we had 2 treatments in the very elegant surroundings, definitely recommend. Even the staff and security chaps on leaving early morning were just so lovely and helpful. Staff score 10/10.

1.Upon early arrival ( travelling for 18 hours) our room wasn't available ( had requested on booking) there was no where to sit and relax, there were about 8 places to sit in the enormous foyer, which were already occupied by resident guests. The staff did their best to try and hurry up our room to be available, so we waited for 1 hour only. Perhaps a separate area, with comfortable sofas inside the main body of the hotel ( a bit like the sofas in the quieter area where breakfast is served) 2.Our room was at the side of the hotel, where a business/premises played really loud music and sung until around 1015pm each evening, the noise consumed the room. Had we had a more comfortable arrival experience, I would have marked the overall experience between 8.5 to 9.

The room / bath size questions are not really fair … we had a suite so obviously these were very spacious and luxurious! 😁 We loved the buffet breakfasts and dinners at Al Fresco: the quality and variety on offer was just marvellous. The staff outdid themselves in making sure we had a wonderful time. And Wilson’s bar and cafe next door is a great hangout for coffees and snacks … and even full meals. The quality of the staff and willingness to ensure we had a great experience was so apparent.

The Lalit has great history which is well captured on their marketing material - but not much of that was in evidence at the hotel: photos, paintings, etc not to be seen. Perhaps that is because the hotel is undergoing renovation.

The hotel is a wonderful place to retreat after a day in an incredibly busy city. It's very comfortable, the staff is attentive and kind, and the food is delicious. The breakfast spread was especially impressive. The spa, gym, and outdoor swimming pool are also excellent amenities. Wi-Fi worked flawlessly. My only concern was the strong smell of humidity in some areas of the hotel. I also wish it was less Western in style and had more common spaces to relax and work.

I also found the overall style to be more Western than I had hoped—it doesn’t reflect much of the local culture. Despite the hotel's generous size and grand lobby, there are surprisingly few comfortable seating areas, and I wish there were more inviting common spaces for relaxing or working. The coffee shop next door (part of the hotel) felt semi-abandoned and didn’t offer a particularly inspiring atmosphere.

I particularly enjoyed the French Toast served at breakfast, and I found the overall food quality to be commendable. The staff exhibited professional and courteous behavior, and the amenities and toiletries provided were entirely satisfactory. A significant consideration for my travels is the nearby availability of affordable accommodation for my personal driver & security staff etc. I appreciate the convenience of readily available options in the neighboring buildings for their lodging.

Few observations from my back to back recent stays that I believe could enhance the guest experience. First, I noticed that there's an opportunity to improve the bakery items offered. Additionally, regarding the breakfast serving area, I suggest reducing some of the six-seater table arrangements to four-seaters. This change could help create more space for movement and improve the overall flow during breakfast. Attention required that the cleanliness of the WC in my initial bathroom was an issue, which led me to request a room change.

Really nice and upscale facility, very large room. Got upgraded to an Edwardian room. Very friendly front desk staff! Great breakfast buffet.

The bathroom could use some upgrades…there was a bit of a “musky smell” in the room. The use of too many small water bottles (so much extra plastic!) didn’t align with the eco-message that sheets are only being changed every other day and towels would only be changed if you left them on the floor. No washcloth was provided (until the very last day, and then they didn’t provide a hand towel at all…??) The hair dryer button had to be pressed - and held down - during use so firmly that it was “a bit too exhausting” for the thumb with the effect you had to take breaks. Really?

The restaurant. Food is great but service is pathetic. Too many trainees or junior staff who tend to lurk in the corner and catch up on social media. There is a buffet but the overt zealous staff to ensure no one can taste from the buffet reminds one of the cheap all you can eat road side restaurants. Service is slow and unpredictable. One senior staff, Deepak took us under his wings and helped us …but I don’t think I would voluntarily go to that restaurant again. Problem is that is the only restaurant in the hotel. The other eating places attached to the hotel is a Bristo like place and a rather seedy bar. Disappointed.

Everything is pleasant here. Breakfast includes a variety of Indian items such as dosa, uttapam, eggs, kachori, and chole, along with a good selection of fruits and beverages. The quality of the food is excellent. The pool appears to be unused. The hotel is situated in an area dominated by government offices, so it is very busy from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., but it quiets down significantly afterwards. If you're looking for a tourist area, this is not it. However, all major attractions are conveniently close to the hotel, and a short taxi ride will get you to them. Apart from all this thing,stuffs are awesome.

Well located. Rooms were spacious, we had an upgrade which was very nice. Breakfast was splendid and we enjoyed the rooms fully. The gym was also very well equipped which i used twice during my stay. Specially after 2 weeks of traveling India, it was nice to end our stay with a bit of luxury.

Although central, this opulent hotel is surrounded by many informal-looking markets. Which might not be for everyone’s taste. The room i received had mold-like smell. Despite asking for a change, this was not honored. Since i was staying one night, i decided to just keep the room as is. They offered room spray which solved the issue temporarily

Location. Location. Location The staff were welcoming and attentive, especially the folks at breakfast. The singer Briti Chatterjee was exceptional. What a wonderful idea to have songs at brekker. This is the first hotel I have stayed in where they didn't charge for an extra bed. They also moved us to the heritage wing at no extra cost. Hope to always stay at this hotel if I can find a room (they seem to be sold out February to April).

There was nothing much to dislike barring the air conditioning which didn't behave itself. Either too cold or not at all. But that's a minor quibble Oh, one more thing. Three fresh lime sodas and a vegetable sandwich cost more than a meal at Kolkata's best Chinese restaurant.

Our stay at The Lalit Great Eastern in Kolkata was incredibly comfortable. The high ceilings and spaciousness of our room beautifully reflected the hotel’s Victorian and Edwardian heritage, steeped in history since the 1840s. The staff were exceptionally helpful and welcoming, and the Hotel’s strong commitment to diversity and inclusion was very visible among the staff that served us. The hotel's central location made it easy to walk to New Market, and booking transportation was a breeze, thanks to their assistance at checkout. Breakfast featured a delightful spread with authentic Bengali flavors, including mishti doi (sweet curd) and luchi aloo (bread with potato). A special highlight was the enchanting performance by Breeti, who played the Dotara and sang folk songs, adding a unique touch to the experience. Overall, the ambiance was lovely, and I would definitely stay here again. A special thank you to the young man who helped me track my train live—your patience and support were greatly appreciated!
