A True Gem in Poreta Villa Cardinale was one of the best stays I’ve ever had. Nazzaro made me feel like family from the moment I arrived. He even picked me up from the train station when I was dealing with a painful foot, and the next day delivered my backpack to my next hotel so I could continue to rest—above and beyond! The villa is charming, peaceful, and perfectly located for exploring Umbria. My room was spotless, spacious, and beautifully decorated. Nazzaro speaks a bit of English, and his kindness and hospitality made my stay unforgettable. Highly recommended!

The host went out of his way to make our stay really enjoyable. We are doing the Via di Francesco Camino so needed to find a restaurant when we arrived. Our host booked a table for us at an excellent place and took us there personally and collected us when we had enjoyed a lovely meal after a hard day walking. Breakfast was also superb and we were given a bag with pastries to take as our lunch The property is a really old lovely manor house once owned by a cardinal who became Pope Leo XII hence the name. The rooms were simple, stylish and clean. We will definitely be returning. Steve and Carolyn

We had an amazing stay at this accommodation! The room was beautifully decorated and very comfortable, making it the perfect place to rest during our journey. The host was incredibly friendly and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. The town itself is charming, with a lovely atmosphere. One of the highlights of our stay was our host’s kindness—he personally brought us to a restaurant in the evening and, in the morning, prepared the best breakfast we had during our entire trip. It was truly a memorable experience, and we highly recommend this place to anyone visiting the area!

We enjoyed our stay at the Villa del Cardinale very much. The host was kind and welcoming despite the language barrier. He called the only café in the area to ask the owner to prepare a much needed meal for us. The breakfast was delicious and copious, the host even wrapped the leftovers for us to take on our day’s walk. Our room had all the necessities and was very clean. We had a great experience and would happily return. Highly recommended halt for pilgrims walking the Via di Francesco, stamp is also available.

What a perfect spot to stay on our pilgrimage! We arrived just before a thunderstorm arrived, we were warmly welcomed! Our host helped us get some food from the local store - Madame Rosa! - and we had access to the kitchen to prepare something, Nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast was amazing - eggs from the chickens that were running around outside, and anything we didn't eat wrapped up beautifully for our next day walking. We didn't speak many words of the same language but we had a great time communicating!

This is the second time we stayed. The property has a lot of history and the owner is part of the history. The rooms were spacious, clean and had everything you needed. The very best Nazzaro picked up beer from local store to make our arrival from the hike even better. He drove and arranged pickup to:from local restaurant. Breakfast had everything you wanted both salt and sweet, eggs and good coffee to set us up for the next day hiking. I keep coming back to Villa Cardinale, it is always a family feeling and warmth to the place.

There really was not anything i did not like. The only small improvement could be to trim (ie grass cut) the garden a bit? It could be nice with some lounge chairs and cut grass to enjoy your drinks after hike outdoors.

Nazaro is the best host you could want. I got the warmest welcome. The room was nice, everything was very clean, I loved the pillows (first time this week I didn’t wake up with pain in my neck from all the hard pillows in Italy). There is a common area with a fireplace, very cosy. Nazaro arranged food from Rosa for me and 2 other guests, which was delicious. The breakfast was also great; croissants, ricotta, primo sale, apricot pie, bread, olive oil; everything homemade and delicious.

There is nothing to do in Poreta, but if you’re walking the St Francis way (which goes through Poreta) you really must stay at this place.

A wonderful stay at the Villa on my "Via di Francesco". The Villa is between Trevi and Spoleto in Poreta and is a great place to relax in rural italy after the busy Towns. Beautifull Villa with a very spacious room. The host is very helpfull and offered me the choice of either have a local make me a simple diner or bring me to a restaurant. I did chose the simple dinner (bread, tomato, egg, vegetable pie) which was a delight.

Nothing, was more than i expected. The information on booking is correct although it is not in the city Spoleto but in Poreta at the end of an official via di Francesco walk.

The peaceful surroundings of the villa set on the edge of the village made for a welcome respite after a days walking from Spoleto. Our host had organised dinner and arranged our transport to a nearby restaurant with exceptional local food. This was followed by a sumptuous breakfast in the villa and the invitation to take left overs for our lunch as we continued walking on the Way of the St Francis.

The place is absolutely lovely - Poreta is a very charming place, and the surroundings are among the best Umbria has to offer. The owner, Nazzaro, is a great host - he recommended a lovely, simple and hearty dinner at Rosa's nearby, a genuine and wonderful host. I highly recommend this place for anyone on the Via Fracigena or anyone going on a holiday in Umbria.

Honestly, there wasn't anything to dislike. It's a great spot.
