We arrived in the evening on Easter Monday. Every where to eat was closed even their restaurant. HOWEVER, the owners went out of their way to ensure they prepared us a meal so we wouldn't be hungry!! What fantastic service. Our room was very clean and overlooked the harbour. It had a complimentary minibar with water and soft drinks. Breakfast was plentiful with very nice staff on duty.It was around a 15 min walk from the railway station and around the same to the castle area. We would definitely recommend this hotel. We stayed for 6 nights and enjoyed every minute.

There was nothing to dislike.

Very nice Boutique hotel . We booked a Junior suite with nice balcony overlooking the Mare Piccolo ( inner sea).and the Fishing Boats with Naval Base in the distance to the right . Booking . Com/ didnt make it clear that this was a 2 level suite with the Master Bedroom upstairs with a faiirly steep flight of wooden stairs . Bathroom and living room downstairs . Luckily there were 2 couches/single beds made up downstairs so we slept downstairs . Beds were very comfy , firm . Taranto is much nicer than we were given to think but after nearly 10 days of sea food that was the only thing to eat in outside restaurants as Hotel restaurant closed . Staff were good but evidently understaffed and became overwhelmed when a lot of people checked in on the Monday pm . Parking was great with a chain barrier . Helped us with the luggage and no problem for later check out . Dont miss the Castello Aragonese and the Duomo !!

For Older people or people with a trauma of stairs at night like us ( my friend in UK died recently from falling down the stairs) , split level is a problem and should have been mentioned , However if ever in Taranto would stay here again but book an ordinary room .

We went on a family cycle tour from Monopoli to Taranto and stayed at the beautiful Boutique Hotel Mata for two nights. A wonderful, small, clean and stylish hotel on the lagoon, a lovely host family and an excellent adjoining fish restaurant made the stay unforgettable. I had a small accident and the owners helped me immediately and unbureaucratically. Thank you for that! The hotel offers almost 20 different rooms and suites, lavishly and stylishly restored in an old small palazzo. The whole structure makes a wonderful impression and it's a pleasure to spend a few days here - we stayed for two. Thank you again, we will definitely be back next year.

We booked the Junior Suite with balcony which was a split-level room with the bedroom on the mezzanine floor. The hotel is newly renovated and the room was modern and clean with nice furnishings. There was a mini bar with juice, water and soft drinks provided free of charge and tea/coffee making facilities. The breakfast is served in the restaurant and was one of the best we had during out time in Puglia. Nice sunrise view from the balcony.

We weren’t keen on the stairs to the mezzanine bedroom as it meant having to use the stairs in order to get to the bathroom which had to be carefully negotiated during the night. The layout of the room was a bit impractical with a seating/sofa-bed area facing inwards and the bathroom next to the entrance door. The bathroom was quite small relative to the size of the room.

We loved the room, we had the suite with the hot tub it was beautiful. Luxurious towels, bathrobes and flip flops. The most comfortable bed and everything was top quality. We used the hot tub both days we stayed and being sat in there watching the harbour was stunning. The hosts were friendly and helpful and we could not have asked for more. Would highly recommend this room. We also ate in the restaurant belonging to the hotel it was excellent quality and extremely fresh.

As previous comments have said some of the old town is in disrepair. We walked around the Duomo and visited the shops. We went into the new town in the evenings which was vibrant and a great atmosphere. The location of the hotel is wonderful as you got the views.

The friendliness of the staff.

The hotel is a jewel in it's location. I booked hotel as it seems near the bus and train stations. However it is very difficult to walk to the hotel with wheeled luggage. You have to cross road with no traffic lights, pavements disappear and traffic is constants. And you are waling past lots of run down, semi demolished buildings. There is very little near the hotel and I ate in the restaurant. But I was parked into the breakfast room away from the main restaurant. Even though it is close I got a taxi to the train station rather than walk back there/ Sad to say but my thought is you are better staying in the modern pat of Taranto.

Palazzo Matà rooms are not numbered. They are named! We stayed at “Rosone”. We loved the room, the amenities, the staff, the breakfast and the convenience of the hotel restaurant that provided room service for us. They thought about everything we could need. The staff was there all the time to help us with everything we could wish for. The hotel has parking space for their guests in front of the hotel which we found to be very nice!

Nothing I can think of.

Without any doubt I highly recommend this hotel. I stayed here for 5 days and it was just superb. The hotel is located in the traditional part of Taranto with a fantastic view of the harbour area which is literally across the road. It’s a short, easy 10 minute walk to the commercial side of town. The rooms are large, spacious and well equipped with everything you will need. A super comfortable bed and a super powered shower. The free mini bar was restocked daily. Breakfast was excellent and the restaurant of the hotel is outstanding serving a great selection of Italian dishes, fresh fish and seafood at very reasonable prices. The is no ‘bar’ in the hotel but very attentive staff serve drinks promptly all day long to an outside area which overlooks the waterfront and tied up boats. Simply stunning! (and the local wine is very drinkable!) All staff are very friendly, attentive, professional and so very helpful. The atmosphere is so special. All respect to the staff and for the owner/manager Angelo, who does a great job here; a true sample of excellent Italian hospitality!

My overall experience was so relaxing. First of all, I had suffered a fall a day before checking in the hotel and I requested a crutch for my stay, and they waited for me with a crutch and drink! Which really made me feel welcomed. And this was just the start to what I consider incredible costumer service. The rooms were impecable and quite large. My family had their own rooms too and they seemed very pleased. Specially the little ones when it was breakfast time. I will definitely be coming back! The breakfast was great, and the menu was quite large and kids friendly too. Every meal was incredibly delicious and so elegant. I recommend dinner by the beautiful view by the water, which is across the street from the hotel.

We truly enjoyed our stay in this beautiful boutique hotel. It is very centrally located, rooms are tastefully decorated and service is simply excellent. We arrived at night and even despite closed kitchen were able to order something for dinner (most delicious and fresh sea food salad you could imagine!), mini bar is icluded in the price, breakfast was a mix of both buffet and a la carte and employees are very friendly and always smiling!
