First stay at a ryokan- a unique Japanese experience. Had a very relaxing stay overall and the location of the ryokan is perfectly situated to explore Kurokawa. The staff were extremely helpful and tried to explain things the best they could despite the language barrier. The indoor onsen was small but relaxing, it made my skin feel really nice the next day. I personally didn't try the outdoor onsen however my partner did and said that the smell was quite strong.

There were renovations being done to the outside of the building which doesn't look the best on arrival. No bathroom/ shower of any kind in the actual room which was inconvenient. The meals provided were plentiful but also a bit unusual-- I'm an avid traveller and enjoy very different kinds of food however I'm not sure if I can say I "enjoyed" the kaiseki dinner which for the price point I think is a bit of a let down.

The property is located nicely in the middle of the town, with a convenient store that opens till night time nearby. The room is spacious and clean. Outdoor onsen area was done up very beautifully, love the short little walk to the onsen area. Meals were great, staff were patient to explain and asked if I needed anything.

Stayed at room 210. I think there was a compressor or some sort of machine outside or nearby my room window, hence for a period of time at night, it was rather noisy. I thought it was the fridge and tried to unplug it, but the noise persisted, hence the conclusion that it's from outside.

If you want an authentic (as far as I know anyway) and delightful experience of Japanese hospitality then this ticks the boxes. The staff are charming and the accommodation and food a very Japanese experience.

Being near the onsen our room smelled like a schoolboys stink bomb - you get used to it. Parking was a bit tricky but due to the very helpful staff it was fine, just don’t arrive before check in time. The food was a fascinating experience in so many new tastes - but it was an expensive addition - though there actually aren’t that many places to eat outside the hotel.

The landlady showed me where to visit in the area (Aso) on the day I checked in, which was very helpful! Her hand-written map of the Kurogawa Onsen with colorful illustrations was also useful when strolling the town. The place was clean, cozy and has both inside and outside baths (roten buro) which is open 6:00 to 23:00. Nothing to complain. Thank you so much for your hospitality. You made my stay very memorable!

The lights on the walk to the outdoor Onsen were beautiful and the view from the bath was amazing. We had the daily special dinner and it was fantastic. For those with who need larger it was easy to switch. The staff was very helpful and nice to talk to.

Exterior construction underway. But the daily work finished by check-in time so it didn’t bother us at night.

Wonderful ryokan in Kurokawa onsen. Delightful staff, beautiful facilities and a comfortable room. Definitely a place we would dream of returning to in the future

Lovely old fashioned Ryokan. The staff and the owner are exceptional and speaks English. The meals were delicious.

Some areas are pretty old, though this can add to the character.

Absolutely stunning location and very helpful staff. Breakfast was a masterpiece.
