Onsen in room. They also provide family onsen room for those who don’t book the room without onsen and want to have privacy for bathing. Family onsen is allowed to use on first come first serve. The property is located in the center of Kurokawa Onsen being surrounded by many shops and restaurants.

Room and accommodation is not suitable for people who has walking problem as they have steps in many part of the property.

Extremely helpful staff who if can't verbally communicate with you, would endeavour to do so via any other possible means. The room was very spacious, and even though it was of the old ryukan style, it was still decently up to date. The outdoors onsen maintains a traditional style but that's probably why you picked Kurokawa in the first place. One thing very noteworthy is their dinner, which they don't serve in your room but instead invite you to dine at their dining area.

Getting to Kurokawa probably means you drove there, (one could take a bus but with some inconveniences) but the parking lots there are quite small and packed, so it could be quite hard to find a space. Also, if you are not willing to part with your own mother tongue, and insists that everything and everyone should accommodate you by speaking your tongue, you'd probably be somewhat disappointed.

Their service is no.1 good. The staffs are very patience and kind to go through areas we need to know such as the time they will prepare our futon and breakfast. They helped us carry our luggage right into the room. Their spacious room which overlook the parking lot and tourist centre is super clean and neat. Location is the best which is surrounded by many eateries and cute little shops. They even prepare little amenities gifts for guests (male and female different) to bring back as souvenirs with their Ryokan logo on it. Not to mention their outfit to wear around for onsen hopping. Their onsen is one of the best as compared. Highly recommend to try theirs. The breakfast is fabulous. The staffs even arranged to contact the hotel we will be staying at Fukuoka and the courier to deliver our international socket that we left behind to us.

Great little place with fantastic service who were very accommodating to a large family group. We booked 4 rooms and they kindly served us meals in a private room so we could dine together. They are attentive to individual dietary needs as well. We all enjoyed the private onsens in our spacious rooms (fit 4 comfortably)- nice view of sunset and autumn foliage! The water in this onsen was so great for some of us with sensitive skin. There’s some detailed information on the temp of water in their onsens and the minerals the water is rich in.

The staff could have updated us on the latest schedule for open onsens in the area- they had an English pamphlet and map to tell us about all the onsens we could use with the onsen passport we purchased but many were closed on the day. Thankfully the visitor centre was so near the hotel and they print a daily schedule of the onsen opening times.

This property is located in the heart of Kurokawa Onsen and has great parking next to the ryokan. We had the most magical time here. It felt like we stepped back in time to old world Japan. The accommodations were awesome and the staff so friendly and accommodating (they also spoke some English, which was so kind). We had our own private onsen which was such a bonus. We were so happy with staying at Ryokan Nanjoen that we are dreaming of staying here again in the future.

the Ryokan Nanjoen is a good option to experience Kurokawa Onsen. It is an old building and it’s not too big. the location is convenient to walk across Kurokawa however it’s not directly next to the river hence the view from the outdoor baths is on building roofs more than nature.

we hoped we would see the surrounding nature from our room and from the outdoor baths but the view is a bit obstructed by building roofs. also the dining room lacks charm it is a very impersonal one which is quite disappointing

The staff were wonderful! We arrived on a very rainy day and they helped us get all of our bags inside despite it absolutely pouring down. The inn itself is beautiful and the baths were very relaxing. We had the kaiseki course meal and the breakfast, which were both excellent. Overall, it was a lovely experience.

Nothing of note!

Beautiful ryokan and facilities, including the guest-only onsen. Our room was large and beautiful. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It’s in the heart of Kurokawa, and therefore very close to several other onsen.

Location is good enough. The pick up/ drop off from and to bus stop was convenient. The ryokan contacted me about food restrictions a few weeks before our arrival. A nice gesture. Quaint Traditional ryokan.

Room was facing the car park. But fortunately, not noisy. The onsen rooms are dark. Needs updating cos it looked worn out. There was so little to no hot water for shower.

Everything was perfect! Service was perfect, everyone was super polite and really made us feel taken care of. The meals were elaborate and delicious. The onsen in the room was magnificent, what a peaceful experience. I 100% recommend this Ryokan for a special onsen experience.

Nothing, everything was perfect.
