Though the Shomarutoge Garden House is a little remote the location amidst the forest is absolutely refreshing and beautiful! The cabins were tidy and so cozy with the warm wood feeling. Outside we used a pop up over our picnic table when it rained lightly one evening. Being outdoors was so fun!

The staff was amazing and did a really fine job of meeting our needs. They were very communicative and attended to our questions about amenities and adding an extra night to our reservation at the last minute.

The property is a wonderful place to relax surrounded by nature with family and friends. The views are breathtaking! The cabins are simple, comfortable and each has a terrace to enjoy your own BBQ. The owner Watanabe-san made our stay extremely pleasant by providing a fireplace to complete the experience. He also helped us book a taxi from Shomaru station to the property as the local taxi operators do not speak English. There are also many walkways to explore around the property. We'll be back for more!

Nothing - our stay was fantastic!

I chose this facility because I was looking for a place surrounded by nature, where I could get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. I wanted a place not far from Tokyo, where I could be alone in silence and where I could hike. Shomaru Pass Garden was simply the best choice I could make. I traveled alone by public transportation. On the day of check in, I arrived at Shomaru Station without difficulty, and I was expecting to hike up the mountain on a Hiking route (50-minute walk), but that day the road was closed for a few hours for extraordinary work. I called the owner of the Cottage, who was very kind and helped me right away to find a solution and call a taxi (I had no choice, the alternative walking was too long and difficult). On the day of check out I was able to hike and I really enjoyed it. So worthy! The owner is so kind, he greeted me with a smile and with whom I had long and pleasant chats. I stayed in the cottage weekdays & off-season, so I was the only guest. This allowed me to immerse myself in peace and silence, as I wished. However, I think the place is also suitable for lively occasions with friends and family, as there is everything you need to barbecue. The tables were nice and very large, and the communal terrace has a breathtaking view. As soon as I walked in my acomodation I could smell wood, so pleasant! Both bed and sofa are comfortable. The kettle, refrigerator, and paper cups were very useful for me, who was traveling alone without a car and was able to carry coffee and ramen to consume there. The bathroom is comfortable and clean, the water in the shower was hot and the mirror was large. Shampoo and body soap (no conditioner) are of very good quality, I was surprised by that. There is only one towel per person, which is a bit small. There are convenient reusable slippers. As amenities, I found toothbrush, hairbrush and razors.

I wouldn't say there's something I didn't like! Just a few small notes: - The taxi I had to take was more expensive than I thought, but it was a very unusual situation since usually you can hike with no problem. I would highly recommend going by car if you can. - Some spots of the hiking route were not super easy to me, as an absolute beginner. Still very worthy, I felt like I was in a Ghibli movie! - I wish I could have two towels, or at least a bigger one.

Fresh air and a fantastic view - Tokyo was visible. While there were a number of families over the weekend, you have the privacy and tranquility in our cottage. The cottage was clean. Glad that the shower room has heater.

The road driving up was narrow and not easy but glad the positive experience paid off. Limited staff and it happened to have only 1 check in staff who was held up by a customer and we waited for almost 20 minutes before we can check in. It is pricey.

A stunning location, beautiful cabin and a pleasant stay overall! We've been well looked after throughout, and enjoyed the outdoors while still having the comfort of the cabin when the cold became too much. We used our small stove indoors whenever we wanted to warm up soup or make tea. Also we had a wood fire outside and we fully enjoyed the cool weather BBQ. Will definitely go there again!

Great location. Lovely cabins. Comfy beds. Lots of space.friendly helpful staff. Great shower. Fabulous view from viewing platforms. Although not from cabins. Lovely tranquil location in Forrest.

Musty smell in cabin, especially duvet and pillow. The loo was a bit smelly too. The sink wasn’t very clean. Very small towels. Other guest were quite noisy.

The owner was really nice and really accomodating , he explained to us everything we need to know and also guide us where is the close supermarket, The place was so peaceful and so relaxing , you can hear the sound of the birds and nature, we had so much fun and we will be back again soon ❤️

A secluded place, right for a romantic date. The last 15 km road to the hotel is through deep forest with steep climb and is utterly scenic and beautiful. The log cabins are clean, well equipped and cozy enough. I highly recommend it to couples who are looking for a deep connect. There is nothing else to do but to be with you and your partner. The hotel rents out BBQ gear. You need to bring everything else with you as the nearest shop is at least 30 mins away. The Owner/Manager Watanabe-san is very helpful and speaks bit of English. It is close to Tokyo, just 100 km, about 2 hrs.

This is a wonderful slice of outdoor Japan. Cute log cabins on the side of a hill with an incredible view of Tokyo in the distance. The perfect spot to bring the family and some groceries so you can have an outdoor BBQ. Room was nice size, clean, and had everything we needed.

We booked through booking.com, so we weren't aware that there aren't really any taxis in the town. Thankfully the front desk person at the hotel was able to arrange a ride from the train station to the hotel, but it is something to be aware of. Google maps did a great job getting us there via train, but assumes that there is ample taxi service...which is not always the case.

Gorgeous spot, wonderful view. Make sure you have everything you need, you don't want to be running to a shop (which is far), you want to be enjoying the cabin and surrounds.

BBQ rental is expensive, but that's the same all over Japan...
